About this listing
Whiteface & Lake Placid are a short ride from Wihiteface Ski Cottage which is nestled on a private and serene 30 acre property surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine timber land. Your mind and body will get the rest and peace it deserves.
The cottage offers two bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen Sleep Number mattress and plenty of closet space. The second bedroom has two twin size beds, a desk and a dresser.
The spacious bathroom includes a Jacuzzi steam shower with various jets to help you and your muscles relax after a long day on the slopes or after a vigorous hike or paddle.
A wrap-around, 700 square foot deck includes a propane grill and seating (in season) for lounging and eating outside at an umbrella-covered glass table.
Adirondack Star Ridge Cottage is equipped with high speed wireless (even on the ridgetop), satellite TV with DVD/VHS player and assorted reading materials. There are board games and puzzles too! A wood stove with firewood included will keep you cozy even on the chilliest of days and nights. While you are out on your adventures, the radiant in-floor heating will welcome pleasure for your feet. In warmer seasons, full casement windows crank open for plenty of ventilation and light. There is NO air conditioning since most summer evenings cool down in the Adirondack Mountains and there is often a light breeze. Two ceiling fans and a box fan also help keep the air flowing inside.
Adirondack Star Ridge is located 5 miles from the rural town of Au Sable Forks where you will find a food market, bank (ATM), 3 restaurants and various shops including a pharmacy. The cottage is about 15 minutes from Whiteface Mountain and 30-35 minutes from Lake Placid and Plattsburgh. Burlington, VT is a short ferry ride away across scenic Lake Champlain, between the Adirondack Mountains and the Green Mountains. Another wonderful day trip option is Montreal. Both locations are about an hour and a half away! Passports required for Montreal & Quebec City(3-4 hrs).
Great hiking trails are available right outside the cottage door providing miles through thousands of acres of adjacent timberland full of logging skid trails! It will most likely ONLY be you and the wilderness---the likelihood of encountering another human are slim to none. Peace & quiet!!
We live on the property about a quarter mile away, close enough to be of assistance should you need or want it. Come stay at Adirondack Star Ridge Cottage be it two nights or several weeks! You won't regret it!
We look forward to meeting you,
Mini & Mike
As guests of Mini and Mike you not only have full access to these 30 acres including the Star Ridge views (& firepit on some occasion--weather-depending) but ALSO to the thousands of acres of adjacent timberland full of hiking & log skid trails.
Interaction with Guests
We like to say we are close enough but far enough! In other words, we live 1/4 mile further up the drive and are available if you need us and of course, we welcome 'Hello's'. Otherwise, we leave you to your peace and quiet. Since there are no other full time residents on the street and no homes or camps within sight of the cottage--plenty of tranquility! We welcome your questions anytime since your time is special to us.
We enjoy the peace and quiet of Star Ridge here on Black Mountain Rd. and we wish to share that with you, our guests. The Western panorama is forever changing and even the peaceful Eastern views from the cottage are spectacular in their own realm. Night skies are even more pronounced from the cottage deck so bring a telescope or binoculars or simply your smartphone with a star-finder App.
You must have a vehicle in the Adirondacks unless you are staying in a major town such as Lake Placid. Star Ridge Cottage is 5 miles from Au Sable Forks center--a quick 10 min. jaunt for fuel, pizza, bar, pharmacy, liquor store, bank and others. Driving directions from all directions can be found on the cottage's web page, (website hidden).
Other Things to Note
Come explore Adirondack Star Ridge cottage and surrounding area for peace, rest, hiking or winter sports and uncountable other adventures or not! Remember the steam shower, wood stove and total tranquility await anytime for those who just want to prop their feet UP!
We expect you to respect the space inside & out of the cottage as you would your own home. Take special care around the wood stove allowing only adults to deal with re-loading wood logs and keeping little ones away for their own safety!
Mike and Mini were great hosts. The pictures and description are accurate. Great place to unwind and relax. Very private and quiet. I would definitely come back and highly recommend.
The cabin was beautiful, comfortable, and spacious. Very well cared for house in a wild part of the Adirondack park. There was a nice hiking trail near the cabin. Mike and Mini provided a nice experience, but were somewhat inflexible, although very polite, when my group had a change in the number of people. Overall, we had a lovely time and are happy with our experience.
Mike and Mini's cabin was everything we hoped for. Comfy and well equipped. The surrounding woods were fun for romping around in with our four-year-old son and dog. The hosts are generous and kind. No complaints and we plan on returning.
Mike & Mini's place was exactly as described on the site. The house was warm and welcoming when we arrived. They left us instructions for the various appliances and such. We were able to talk to the hosts in person and they answered any and all questions we had. The area was secluded and it was so peaceful and relaxing. Our dog appreciated all the fresh air. It was perfect for my family as we were there for the Ironman. The drive to and from Lake Placid wasn't too bad, especially on the day of the race. We made the most of our trip after the Ironman. Later in the week, we took a trip up to Montreal for the day, which was a very pleasant experience--lots of ice cream and the best bagels we've ever had! We also went over to Vermont to the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory and that was a lot of fun! We grocery shopped at the local shop called The River's Edge Emporium and were very impressed with their selection of whole foods. Our favorite places to eat were at the Lake Placid Brewery and the ADK Café. We also cooked a lot of our own meals. We even visited the Sugar House Creamery to get our eggs, which was nice, since we had stayed there on a previous airbnb trip. One of the nights it got quite cold so we were able to take advantage of the fireplace and we were even able to make smores! It was extremely comfy to be able to curl up in front of the fire and watch a movie all together. My daughter especially enjoyed the beanbags that were made available in the house. Mike and Mini helped to make our trip run smoothly. We hope to go back and venture into the local waterholes. Thank you for everything!!!
Mike and Mini were absolutely delightful hosts. The cottage was a perfect place to return to after a long day of skiing and exploring. The accommodations were comfortable and we would definitely return again. Summer must be spectacular? Thank you again for wonderful hospitality and a magical place.
My friends and I had a wonderful time. Everything was perfect. It really felt like a home away from home. It seemed at every turn like Mike and Mini had thought of everything we might need. We will recommend it to our friends and we hope to be back soon!
Everything was lovely...this is not really a cottage but rather a very warm and attractive country home. Mike and Mini have put alot of effort in to details and making guests comfortable. Although we ran off for some near by hiking, I encourage guest to save time for savouring the peaceful lodgings and surrounding property!
