The Space

We look forward to welcoming you to our home in Newton, Massachusetts – a lovely suburb and neighborhood just 9 miles (15 km) from Boston and 8 miles (13 km) to Cambridge – and only a 4-minute walk to the Newton Highlands subway station.

You might like to know that Newton (called the “Garden City”) was ranked number 3 in “Money Magazine’s” Top 100 best small cities, and among the ten best suburbs in the U.S. by Movato. We are also proud to have one of the top school systems in the country.

Our home was built in the late 1920s. We are only the second owners and are certain you will really enjoy staying in a grand home that has been beautifully maintained and updated, including a recent designer kitchen, where you will enjoy a wonderful, complimentary breakfast. Centrally air-conditioned, complete with Wi-Fi, your home-away-from-home is filled with antiques and artwork, and offers a choice of three sunny guest bedrooms and one private bath and shower. (For people with mobility issues, stairway to bedrooms and shower usage will be a challenge).

The larger guest room has one king-size bed; another guest room has one queen-size bed; and the third guest room has one double bed. (There are no twin beds). This flexible arrangement is perfect for couples and/or families, up to four people. Ours may not be an ideal place to hang out during the day. You'll want to be out and about as much as we are.

RATES FOR ADDITIONAL PEOPLE AND ROOMS ARE HIGHER. SEE "HOUSE RULES" TAB AND INQUIRE BEFORE YOU BOOK.
THIS WILL BE REFLECTED IN OUR "SPECIAL OFFER," EMAILED TO YOU PRIOR TO YOUR ACTUAL BOOKING.

A washer and dryer and an Internet-enabled big screen, high-definition cable TV is available for your convenience and pleasure in our downstairs playroom.

We are a short walk to two pedestrian-friendly village centers with shopping and restaurants: Newton Highlands and Newton Centre; as well as parks, playgrounds and lovely Crystal Lake.

Enjoy a variety of nearby top-notch restaurants, diners, pizza, ice cream and yogurt places, coffee shops and bakeries. You will also find post offices, gas stations, drug stores, gyms, yoga studios, cleaners, banks, shops, consignment stores, as well as Newton’s nationally acclaimed, large Public Library.

Also enjoy 19th century Victorian and other notable architectural style homes as you drive or walk around our beautiful city. Jog along Commonwealth Avenue – the route of the world-famous Boston Marathon. And if you do have a car, you may share parking in our driveway, or park on our street from April 15 to November 15.

Just minutes to the Massachusetts Turnpike and only 13 miles (21 km) from Logan International Airport, we are a 15-20 minute commute to the country’s top-rated hospital, Massachusetts General, as well as such major hospitals as Children’s, Brigham & Women’s, and the Longwood Medical Center via Green Line D train; and 20 minutes to fashionable Back Bay and Newbury Street, the world-acclaimed Museum of Fine Arts and Science Museum (we have free passes for two people).

Boston College and Chestnut Hill are 5 minutes away and we are also close to and commutable to Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Berklee College of Music, Brandeis, Simmons, Northeastern, Emerson, Tufts, Babson, Wellesley College, and Wentworth for parent's weekends or college visits. Did you know that the Boston area is home to 22 colleges and universities?

And if you're a sports fan, there's no place better. Depending on the season, and if they are in town, you may want to catch a Red Sox game, the football Patriots, Boston Bruins hockey, or Boston Celtics basketball.

And while here in New England, keep in mind that the beautiful and charming Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, as well as Cape Cod and Portland, Maine are only two hours away.

Safe travels. We look forward to meeting you.

  • Everything was too good to be true.
Les and Barbara are perfect hosts.
Their house is a real gem and very well (website hidden) is in the downtown if we compare the distance with Istanbul standarts,10 minutes by car.
Very clean and in the middle of nature.

  • We very much enjoyed our stay with Les and Barbara. They were gracious hosts and fun to chat with . Their home is exceptionally beautiful. The street is a bit noisy, but quiet at night. The bed was a bit more firm than I would have liked, but it didn't bother my husband at all. I had a topper with me, just in case, so it turned out to be just fine!
We hope we'll come back to Boston for a visit and if we do, we hope their place is available.
Close to public transport in a lovely bedroom community with restaurants and shops within walking distance.
Les makes great oatmeal in the morning - just our style with nuts, raisins, cinnamon and apples! Great coffee too!
Les promised me nice weather too, and he delivered! Thanks for making the last leg of our three week trip a success! Debby and Myles

  • I rented Les and Barbara's house for my family for graduation weekend. The house was perfect for my 5 guests. Barbara and Les made them feel extremely welcome and made them a wonderful breakfast every morning. I can't say enough about the house and the hospitality of this listing. Fully Recommended!

  • It was a pleasure working with Les and Barbara. They were both very accommodating and the people for whom I booked this location were very pleased. The house is gorgeous and is only a hop/skip/jump away from the T. Super accessible, super cozy, fabulous hosts: what more could you ask for? We would use this location again.

  • I was visiting my daughter who attends Boston College and stayed with Les and Barbara for the weekend. They were extremely gracious and helpful throughout my visit and really made the quick trip to Boston very relaxing. I really appreciated the beautiful house and comfortable guest rooms within close proximity to Newton Center and Boston College. My family and I will definitely try to stay with the Gore's during our next visit to Boston.

  • It is our luck that we met Les & Barbara as our great hosts in Boston. My mother, my brother and I stayed in Boston for only two nights, but Les & Barbara gave us great impression that we will remember for a long long time.

On the first night after we checked in, Les drove his car to show us the way to the local famous noodle restaurant which made us feel warm after a long drive from New York. And after that, Les helped us for the laundry and even took the laundry basket with the finished clothes to the second floor! That was so sweet and impressive. And the second day, Les helped us again with laundry for our newly brought clothes till the middle of night! We could say nothing else but THANKS!

And of course, Les and Barbara prepared us a very tasty American breakfast including blueberry which is very healthy.

All in one word that three of us feel just like HOME with Les & Barbara when we eating together and chatting together. We will definitely choose this lovely and elegant house of Les & Barbara again when we have chance to visit Boston. And also we do wish to have chance to host Les & Barbara someday in Shanghai as our precious guests.

  • We had a wonderful experience staying with Les and Barbara. They were friendly, welcoming, helpful, and interesting, knowledgeable hosts. Their house is lovely, and our room was large and light-filled with a most comfortable bed with luxurious linens. Breakfast was delicious and just what we each wanted. We would definitely stay there again.

  • The house and accomodation were very nice. Nice rooms, nice house and good location close to public transportation to Boston. What make everything special is Les and Barbara, whose hospitality and warmth is over any expectation. From now on we will consider them as close friends !

  • Les and Barbara were outstanding hosts. Their house is beautiful and the beds were all extremely comfortable. Prior to our coming, Les asked about any dietary restriction. He and Barbara made us feel at home. They are very friendly and attentive. Les made an excellent full breakfast. We were in the area for an event with our two teen children. We were very comfortable. We would definately return and will recommend to friends.

About
Hello, Hola, Bonjour, Ciao, Hallo, Ni Hao! I’m an executive recruiter, enjoy sports and being active and am an avid tennis and softball player. My wife Barbara (originally from Montreal) is a real estate broker. We met in New York City (I was in advertising, she was in publishing), and have lived in Boston (where I grew up) for nearly 30 years. We have two adult children, and together, we have traveled to many places over the world– taking pleasure from different cultures and meeting all kinds of people. We both enjoy our families, music, art, theater, museums, gardening, good food and wine; and especially people with a good sense of humor. If you want to visit the Boston area, see more of New England, or explore one of America’s top-rated suburban communities as a future place to live – attend events, visit friends or relatives, work, or just sightsee, our gracious home may be just the place for you. We look forward to meeting you and enjoying your stay in our Airbnb 5-Star rated home!
