One Light Bed and Breakfast, Room 2

Bed & Breakfast - Private room · State Highway, Mariposa, CA 95338, United States

The Space

We are a gracious, two-room Bed and Breakfast ten minutes drive from Mariposa, CA. and an hour from Yosemite. We opened in July 2012. Trip Advisor rates us as the #1 Bed and Breakfast in Mariposa. We feel fairly confident that we have achieved that rating because we have a really lovely, clean, quiet place on 70 acres, near to Yosemite. We also love to help our guests to feel comfortable and are happy to make recommendations for hikes, restaurants and activities in the Park and the surrounding area. Please read some of our reviews.

We are conveniently located between the entrances to Yosemite National Park - the south entrance (Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias) and west entrance (Arch Rock - Yosemite Valley) Each is about an hour's drive. I know it may sound far, but it is hard to get much closer to Yosemite without staying right in the Park itself. Also good news: we are right on Highway 49 South; no back roads or confusing directions!

This lovely room (Room 2) is called "Grace." It is located in the back to our house, facing the black oaks, native grasses and granite outcroppings. With a queen size bed, comfortable love seat and gas fireplace, it is a peaceful haven. Everyone loves this room!

You have your own private entrance and very pleasing bathroom.

Our Continental Breakfast, served between 7 - 9 AM, features local and organic food. Our neighbors bake our sourdough bread in their homemade wood-fired oven. Our eggs come from other friends' happy free-range chickens. The coffee is locally roasted, just a few miles down the road. We serve fresh fruit (berries when in season), delicious granola, hot and cold cereals, yogurts, organic milk and milk substitutes, fresh nuts, and lots of organic jams. Our honey is from a Mariposa beekeeper.

We are only 7.3 miles from historic Mariposa, right on the main road. Very easy to find! Best of all, we are equally situated between the south (Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias) and west (Arch Rock - Yosemite Valley) entrances to Yosemite. Each is about an hour's drive - a real plus! Mariposa has many restaurants, antique shops, and, in the summer, lots of live music on the weekends.

One Light is located on 70 park-like acres of fields and forests. We have mown trails on the property for your walking enjoyment. Our extraordinary swimming pool, built in 2011, looks like a small mountain lake set in granite rock outcroppings. Just like what you might find in the Yosemite high country. We use very little chlorine. It's truly unique and delightful!

  • We have traveled to many places and stayed in a variety of hotels and Airbnb locations. This was the best place and overall experience we've had, bar none! George was an amazing host and treated us like royalty. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious breakfasts, which included locally sourced honey, bread and eggs, among other items. George gave us great advice about hiking in Yosemite (the reason for our trip) that was extremely helpful. He also shared great stories about his life, Mariposa and his time there, which made our trip even more satisfying. If you are visiting Yosemite, you would be wise to stay with George and Theresa—you're guaranteed to have a great time and feel at home!

  • One of the previous guests at One Light described it as a little paradise. And it is. Everything was simply lovely. Don't hesitate - you should stay here.

  • Staying at George and Theresas One Light Bed and Breakfast located in a beautiful area, was a great experience. It was one of our best accommodations during our three week roundtrip. The room was lovely furnished, quite big, clean and comfortable, so that we felt like home. We enjoyed our conversations with the other guests and George and Theresa during breakfast as well as the numerous recommendations regarding where to have diner and where to go in the Yosemite NP.
“A little paradise” is quite the best description.

  • Pat and I had a lovely, restful stay at Theresa and George's B&B in Mariposa. The room was spacious and inviting, the pool was so very restful, the breakfast was healthy and filling, and the hosts were warm and friendly. They both went out of their way to accommodate my needs since I arrived with a badly sprained ankle and on crutches. We couldn't have ask for more kind and caring hosts. There is a notebook with suggestions for the area and George and Theresa were always available for any questions we might have. You can't go wrong sharing a part of your vacation at this location, while exploring the beautiful area.

  • Theresa and George are really friendly people and very good hosts. They did everything to ensure our comfortable stay and gave us very useful advice for hiking in Yosemite. The room was of excellent quality, with a lot of space and an excellent bed and bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and great preparation for the hikes! Overall, our stay was a great combination of comfort and being close to nature. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to try the swimming pool, but it looked really amazing! We had an amazing time staying with Theresa and George I can safely recommend this place to anyone visiting Yosemite and looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay, not too far away from the park.

  • One Light is a very nice place to stay ! The place is beautiful, wild & calm. Theresa & Georges are lovely hosts! Theresa gave us lot of details regarding possible trail routes in Yosemite and where we could buy good sandwiches. By the way, the breakfast is just awesome, congrats !

  • Our stay here was marvellous! Our hosts were gracious, kind, unobtrusive and very helpful. Breakfast was *delicious*, and the pool is absolutely one of a kind. A very blissful retreat.

Oh, and Princess was a delightful petite feline guardian! She was a darling.

  • Theresa and George were FANTASTIC hosts. They had so many awesome "insider tips" for us, and directed us to some BEAUTIFUL hikes in Yosemite that we would have never have found without their guidance (they know the awesome places to eat as well!).

Their home is lovely, from the super comfy bed to the beautiful pool in the backyard, and their company is just as lovely. The breakfast always prepared us for our days of hiking, with good nutrition and good conversation. They answered all of our questions and even helped us plan our day.

Visiting Yosemite should be all about the beauty of nature. If you want to escape the business of the Valley area, you should absolutely make the trip to One Light. I cannot overstate how amazing our stay was at One Light, thanks to Theresa and George.

Hello, My husband, George, and I live in Mariposa, CA because we love this small, warm community, the beautiful Sierra foothills and living near magnificent Yosemite National Park. ( We are always happy to share some of our favorite areas in the Park with our guests.) I'm an avid organic gardener, and it's important to me to serve the same food to our guests at One Light that we enjoy - organic, fresh and local whenever possible. Connecting with people brings me a lot of joy, and, though running a B&B is a relatively new occupation (we just opened in July 2012), I find it's something that comes quite naturally. I have used airbnb myself and have had great experiences. Within the last 2 years I have traveled to England, Scotland, France, Italy, Denmark, and Sweden and we have hosted guests here at One Light from all over the US, as well as Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Germany, France, Australia and India. George and I are creating One Light as a center for wellness that includes weekly and full moon meditations, community gatherings and events, potluck dinners, movie nights, international circle dancing, and spiritual workshops and seminars that focus on living in harmony with ourselves, one another and the earth. I teach yoga at a beautiful studio just down the road. Visitors are always welcome to the classes at Dragonfly Yoga Studio. Connecting with others and providing a place of rest and beauty gives me great joy, and fulfills another goal: truly celebrating our humanity.
