About this listing
Welcome to One Light. We are a gracious, country B&B located near two Yosemite National Park entrances. Our rooms are spacious and beautiful, our artisan pool inviting and our breakfast delicious. Many guests wish they had booked another night!
The room is spacious and the queen size bed very comfortable. A gas fireplace and a couch make the room really welcoming. The couch has particularly good reading lights.
Room 2 is spacious and has a very comfortable queen size bed, a down-filled sofa with great reading lights, and a gas fireplace. It is a peaceful haven located in the back to our house, facing the black oak trees, native grasses and granite rock outcroppings. You have your own private entrance and a large, pleasing bathroom with plenty of natural light. Everyone loves this room!
We do have a beautiful second room listed with Airbnb as well - our "Room 1." It boasts a king size bed and a single bed, sleeping three. We can add a cot for a fourth person. Please check out Room 1's listing here:
Our Continental Breakfast consistently delights our guests. We offer organic food whenever possible. We serve fresh fruit (berries when in season), granola, muesli, hot and cold cereals, yogurts, organic milk and milk substitutes, fresh nuts, and lots of delicious jams. The honey is from a Mariposa beekeeper. Our coffee is locally roasted, fair trade and delicious. We have many herbal and regular teas to choose from.
Our B&B is located between two of the Yosemite's main entrances - the Arch Rock Entrance which goes right to the Yosemite Valley, and the South Entrance, which is at the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. It is an hour to each of these entrances. We know an hour's drive may sound far, but it is hard to get much closer to Yosemite without staying in the Park itself. One Light is right on Highway 49 South; no back roads or confusing directions! We are only 10 minutes (7.3 miles) from the charming old gold rush town of Mariposa, with its good restaurants, locally brewed beer and inviting shops. We highlight our favorite places in the binder you will find in your room. On summer weekends in Mariposa there is live music, performed outdoors.

This was my boyfriend and I's second time using Airbnb. Theresa was a wonderful host who seemed to truly care about her guests! The room we stayed in was extremely clean and made us feel right at home. The room is part of Theresa's home but felt very private with its own door to the room that could be locked. Theresa had a binder in the room with all the necessary information regarding the bnb as well as suggestions for Yosemite hikes and restaurants in Mariposa to check out. Her outdoor pool was awesome and she encouraged us to use it whenever we could!
Also provided were breakfast menus for each morning that we would be there. Theresa instructed us to select any items that we specifically would want for breakfast as well as what time we would want to eat and told to slip them under the door by 9pm so that she could properly prepare! Breakfast was great-toast, english muffins, cereal, granola, fresh fruits, fresh yogurt, coffee, an additional items that she would prepare if requested.
The only thing I would point out is that air conditioning is listed in amenities, but is not able to be controlled by each individual room-it is a central air system. During our stay, it was very warm in Mariposa and the air conditioning was off. Theresa did offer a oscillating fan which did help some.
Overall, we had a great stay at Theresa's and would recommend her place to anyone looking into a trip to Yosemite!
I have so many wonderful things to say about Theresa and our stay. Her home is so lovely, warm and comfortable. Everything was ready for us, comfy bed and very clean. The property is amazing and wasn't hard to find. Theresa gave us the best advice, tips and insider knowledge about Yosemite. She made our trip there better than we could have planned. I hope to see her and stay at her place again in the future!
Theresa treated us in a five stars way: a spacious bedroom, the most comfortable bathroom, a copious breakfast, a swimming pool in an afforested environment. All those luxury items make you almost forget you intended to go to Yosemite Park.
As the Sequoia National Park has been closed for the next two years, Theresa will show you the way to an alternative Sequoia ground.
Theresa is a fine, wonderful and most attentive host; her Airbnb is the perfect place to relax and the ideal base for Yosemite hikes.
Although Theresa wasn't around for the duration of our stay, we were wonderfully hosted. The roof - and rest of the place - is beautiful; it's a truly wonderful setting. Our room was so great and is even better than the pictures. The outdoor pool is amazing!
The tips that were left on restaurants were accurate and very detailed - we definitely recommend the Rustic Bug, great food. Our Yosemite trip took on pretty much everything from the recommended one day route and it was brilliant.
Couldn't recommend this this place enough. Excellent base for Yosemite with lovely hosting, great breakfasts and Mariposa seems lovely too.
Absolutely loved our first airbnb experience here! 'Sanctuary' sums up this airbnb perfectly. We arrived late due to a very long travel day and to walk into such a clean, comfortable, peaceful and gorgeous room immediately washed away the prior stresses. Sleeped amazingly well and Theresa served a beautiful breakfast the next day and made fantastic suggestions for our Yosemite adventure - it really made our trip. To come home to the pool the next evening was blissful. Thank you Theresa - for restoring our energy! Highly recommend this airbnb- the standard has been set high!
Place is exactly as it described. Very clean, cute, well decorated. It's a gem in Mariposa. Theresa was very warm and nice all the time. Her tips helped our trip helped us a lot. Highly recommended!
What can we say about Theresa and One Light? There are nearly no words to describe.
Already after booking, Theresa was most helpful, responded quickly and gave us some great tips for our routeplanning after our stay in Mariposa.
We stayed at one light for four nights, in this time we experienced so much generosity and kindness from the host that it was almost overwhelming.
Theresa really made us feel at home, beeing natural, authentic and kind.
Just by quiet observing she would know anybodies favourites at the breakfast table and she would prepare for that.
We were travelling with two small kids, and being a grandmother herself she had not just prepared everything neatly and well thought through (extra sheets for the baby, some toys in the dining area and in the bathtub), but she also showed patience and was understanding that there would be some noise around us and that things would take more time.
For any smaller or bigger problems that would occur she had a solution.
Theresa had great tips for trips to Yosemite, even some that were children friendly and she had some great tips for how to prepare for a nice journey (order take away sandwiches, which were great; have some spare warm jackets for unprepared tourists,...)
While we stayed at one light, we met three other couples throughout our stay, and Theresa would take her time for everyone, just to chat or helping them to plan the day, and she was equally observant.
The rooms at One Light are actually even nicer and lighter than shown on the pictures and the property itself was a wild beauty.
Breakfast was great with lots of choices, organic produce and fresh fruit. There would be something for everyone.
If we could we would love to stay at One Light and with Theresa again!

About the Host, Theresa
I live in Mariposa, CA, a small, warm community, in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills near magnificent Yosemite National Park. I'm an avid organic gardener, and it's important to me to serve the same food to our guests at One Light that we enjoy - organic, fresh and local whenever possible.
Connecting with people brings me a lot of joy, and, though running a B&B is a relatively new occupation (One Light opened in July 2012), I find it's something that comes quite naturally.
I have used airbnb myself and have had great experiences.
Within the last few years I have traveled to England, Scotland, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and Israel. And I have hosted guests here at One Light from all over the US, and the world, including Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, Germany, France, Australia, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Israel, Russia, China and India.
I teach yoga at a beautiful studio just down the road. Visitors are always welcome to the classes at Dragonfly Yoga Studio.
Connecting with others and providing a place of rest and beauty gives me great joy, and fulfills another goal: truly celebrating our humanity.
