Warm Southern hospitality welcomes you to this Low Country luxury 3-story home 4 miles from the beach with two large bedrooms available. It's a quiet and serene setting where you can hang out on the hanging beds in the lanai in the contemplation garden, or rock on the porch, or enjoy the view from the decks. Explore the Low Country and Charleston, a scenic drive away, or enjoy our quiet Edisto Island charm, unspoiled and pristine.
We offer two large bedrooms -- this listing is for the queen-sized bed bedroom (the other bedroom has a king, listed as "Paradise on Edisto Island - King"). All with new, high-end mattresses and box springs. Each bedroom has its own private half-bath adjoining, walk in closets, ceiling fans, comfortable chairs, good lighting. Spare toilette articles are stocked in case you might have forgotten to pack something you need. Hotel amenities are stocked just for you: soaps, shampoo, & conditioner.
Edisto is what the Low Country used to be: pristine, wild and unsullied. A great place for exploring, biking, kayaking, canoeing, walking, bird and wildlife watching, with incredible natural resources. We have an extensive plantation history, and an excellent local museum and historic tours. While here, enjoy diverse dining experiences, our beautiful beaches, fun shopping adventures, lively bars, golfing, dolphin tours, crabbing, shrimping, creek or deep sea fishing, or meander, exploring the local waterways and roads just like a native! Restore yourself here, it's a great place for finding peace.
Breakfasts are my specialty! I serve at 8 a.m. (unless you need a different time), starting with coffee, teas, juices, toast or pastries, fruit and yogurt, and then the main course....which might be grits, eggs, and bacon, oven baked apple pancake, baked coconut oatmeal with blueberries, vegetable and cheese quiche, homemade granola, or whatever special something the season might feature. Eggs are free range, local, from happy birds, and I try to keep everything organic, fresh, and local whenever possible. It might be served in the dining hall, the front porch, the deck, or in the garden or lanai.
I'm a licensed massage therapist with my private practice here on the ground level of the home, off the contemplation garden. I invite you to complete your visit's relaxation and book a bodywork treatment or a soothing massage in advance (book online at paradisefoundmassage).
You can rent bikes or kayaks in many locations on Edisto.
What do my guests usually say about their visit here? That it is tranquil, quiet, restorative, beautiful, peaceful, a truly pampering experience, and luxurious...and they usually extend their stay, or immediately book a return visit! A guest last week called it 'enchanted', which pleased me no end...it means they completely 'got' what I hope I have created here. You're welcome to enjoy all the varied indoor and outdoor spaces here, but please note and respect the exceptions -- private innkeeper areas -- which include the massage studio, kitchen, my office, bedroom, and sitting room.
Since my home is filled with antiques and art, children who are well-behaved and carefully supervised by their parents are welcome. This home is not appropriate for infants or toddlers. Room occupancy is limited to two.
Please note this is a non-smoking property.
My guests are welcome to use and enjoy all the areas of the home and surrounding yard and gardens. The only exceptions are the homeowner areas - kitchen, sunroom, office, owner's bedroom, and my work areas on the ground level of the home.
Interaction with Guests
I'd like to welcome you on your arrival and show you the property, and available for helping you to get the most out of your time on Edisto, and will be serving your daily breakfast, of course!
I want to respect your desire for privacy, so you will have as much privacy, or as much friendliness, as you wish for.
This is a quiet sparsely-settled neighborhood, surrounded by water, with large individual lots. I'm fortunate to have a lot of forest surrounding this home as well as inside the property, so the birdlife and wildlife are amazing. Guests sit in the garden and are spellbound at all the birdlife around them.
There is no public transportation....having a car will make things easier, but bike rentals are everywhere and that's a good way to get around as well, especially on the scenic off-roads and trails. One guest roller-bladed his way around!
Other Things to Note
If you are looking for a tranquil escape from a busy world, this is a good place to find that. It's not so much the 'doing' on Edisto, it's more getting into the rhythm of 'being' while here, with no demands, a rare pristine and wild environment to astonish you and remind you of how the world once was, which also seems to connect guests with their peaceful inner self.
Since my home is filled with antiques and art, children who are well-behaved and carefully supervised by their parents are welcome. This home is not appropriate for infants or toddlers. Please note this is a non-smoking property.
While I have dogs here, you are welcome to see and enjoy them, or not, exactly as you prefer, so feel free to let me know.
The property was everything advertised and more.Quiet neighborhood, wonderful local restaurants and great beaches just minutes away.Laura was a gracious host, providing an awesome breakfast each morning, respecting our privacy but always anticipating our needs. The house was beautiful and very well maintained. We look forward to our next visit.
This truly was Paradise Found! Laura's home was everything that was promised and more. A beautiful home with luxurious guest room, lovely gardens and peaceful outdoor shower, gourmet breakfast, and a warm and welcoming host! You will not find a better getaway!
We had a wonderful time at Paradise on Edisto Island. Laura had great restaurant and activity suggestions, helped us secure bikes, and provided scrumptious breakfasts and a frig full of drinks and snacks in our very large, comfortable room. Her beautiful home is located in a quiet neighborhood, an easy bike ride from Edisto State Park. And if you're lucky, you can schedule a massage or other spa service on the ground level.
Cataldo and I loved our stay with Laura and her two beautiful Italian Shepard's - Lola and Cholo:) We stayed in the king room and it was very clean and so comfortable and relaxing! Laura has everything you need for a day at the beach and the local knowing to let you know where to go. Every morning you wake up here there is hot coffee waiting on you followed by a huge and tasty breakfast. Honestly it was hard to leave. The wonderful thing ( well one of the many ) about air B and B is the personal touch no hotel can provide and sometimes you make friends, this was one of those times:) Thank you Laura and I hope you come visit us while you are around Asheville, let Cataldo and I make you an amazing Italian dinner.
Laura is a delightful and most considerate hostess, as well as a superb cook (gourmet breakfasts to die for). The house is lovely, with unique art and antiques everywhere, tastefully arranged. You will have every comfort in the rooms. We were there in cold weather but the outdoor decks and patio would be great to relax in at other times. The location is tranquil but not far from the island's attractions. Laura was expert in directing us to places that fit our interests. We had a wonderful time.
Thank you, Barbara and Reid! I'm honored that you so 'got' what I try to create here, from simple elegance to wholesome tasty breakfasts. I've been lucky to have had wonderful guests, now including you two as well. The title of 'gourmet breakfasts' will be something to live up to now, for sure! I hope you will visit again and for longer, the outdoor spaces here really are tranquil restorative spots all my guests comment on. I hope to see you again!
Laura's house was gorgeous. She made a great breakfast every morning. It was so relaxing sitting on her porch and reading. I loved her two huge dogs. Edisto island was beautiful.
8/31/2013 As I write with such excitement I'm feeling lost for those words in expressing my new heaven on earth that I entered this Labor Day weekend vacation at Edisto Island in SC. I have been welcomed by open arms by this wonderful inspiring massage therapist named Laura in allowing me to spend the next four days settling into this safe haven she calls "home". Laura showed me around and I had the pleasure to view all her many creations and artifacts that surrounded her peace. Afterwards, I went straight to my sleeping quarters to take a nap that was much needed after driving a very long 6 hour drive. When I awoke, I decided to take a drive by the ocean and take in the last few hours left to sunlight and to find me a place to feast on some local seafood. The next morning I took my early run. It was breathtaking in this feeling I was experiencing along the tree line on Palmetto and Oyster Road at The Neck of the Peninsula of Edisto Beach. A secluded barrier island of grass marshes off the coast of South Carolina nestled inland. Imagine being in the Amazon Forest experiencing green lush trees with every imaginable species on earth. Instead, the view consisted of Silvery Spanish moss that embraced giant live oaks lining the road, touching overhead to create a cathedral ceiling. I was energized with medicine from nature healing all the senses into stillness. I finished my run and stepped into Laura’s Garden of Eden in the back area of her home. It included a Gazebo smothered in hanging greenery, several relaxing chairs, an outside shower and the ground was layered with white pebbles that massaged my feet as I stepped forward. The white pebbles reminded me of the many white wash rocks that also align the Aegean Sea in Mykonos, Greece. A very magical place on earth. I continued my workout with my kettle iron in the garden areas and then to the upper deck with 12 rounds of Sun Salutations ending into Shavasana, corpse pose. All my senses were open as I breathed inhaling all that was, exhaling all that no longer served me. I sighed with relief feeling a deep gratitude as I never imagined such serenity until I arrived here at this place called heaven. I centered my soul into the oasis down below the yoga deck to read for the next several hours while entranced into my music. I'm lying on a bed suspended from the roof top of the deck above. I'm feeling like a goddess from Egypt married to a Pharaoh ready to be served. I'm humbled as I write these words at the same time feeling spoiled, I chuckle. As I look straight ahead through the protected screens surrounding the outside view from my oasis, I'm mesmerized by the calmness of the flowing water ahead that gently falls upon the rocks revitalizing my spirit. I'm in tuned to nature with...
Rose Ann, I am so delighted that you 'got it all' about Edisto, about what I try to create here for my guests and everyone to share. I am so glad it filled your spirit and heart as it did. You are most welcome, it gives me pleasure to create a tranquil haven for my guests to enjoy, as you so thoroughly did! Hope to see you again, may all your travels be happy and peaceful.

Come on down! I'm a Golden Girl at the beach, delving into life here on Edisto Island, in coastal South Carolina. The weather is lovely, the people are warm and welcoming, and calling it 'paradise' rings true every day.
I first visited Edisto Island almost 20 years ago and felt jolted with a powerful connection with the island -- it's wildness, pristine beauty, and the incredible layers of historic meaning. I was lucky enough to move here full-time a few years ago. I enjoy sharing my home with friendly people who enjoy the luxurious touches I've prepared for them. As a South Carolina friend once said to me, "Life's too short to save dessert for last!".
Edisto, surrounded by rivers, marshes, the fertile sea and land, domed with vast clear skies, is a natural place for healing and integration, for finding balance and renewal, and for exploring and having fun.
