Interaction with Guests
If you stay at our house, it means we're away! Either back in Canada, or travelling somewhere in Asia.
A bit about us: We're an active Canadian family of 5 - three boys, the oldest age 16 (Emmet), and twins age 11 (Myles and Austin). Five years ago we relocated to Bali, and have been enjoying the change of pace and fresh air ever since. We love Bali, and love meeting new people.
During your stay, we're happy to suggest things to do, places to see, and interesting people to meet. Some of our favourite things to do are yoga classes, mountain biking, and visits to some of Bali's incredible temples. We can also connect you to a local driver, or help rent a scooter. So go ahead and splurge, and stay at a great house for families in Ubud!
Nyuh Kuning is in Southern Ubud, just below the monkey forest. It has been named the cleanest village in Indonesia several times in the past few years!
We love living here as it's quiet, beautiful, but still very close to Ubud.
The easiest ways to get around Ubud is on foot, by bicycle, by scooter, or by taxi (usually a private driver).
Other Things to Note
One of our favourite thing about the house is that the swimming pool is salt-water. Which means you don't get out of the pool smelling like chlorine!
We don't have a ton of rules, other than we ask guests to respect the property and staff who work here.
Our cook and house staff come with the reservation, but food costs are extra. Kadek has worked for us for many years, and will grocery shop and plan meals.
Alternatively, you can buy your own food and use the kitchen.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the house.
No guests please.
We had a wonderful stay here in July. The villa is very well equipped for families. We were two families travelling together and there was plenty of space and the pool was fantastic. Yoni is a great Manager and Kadek took care of all of our cooking needs which were quite particular due to children with food allergies. All of the staff were fantastic. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for families wanting to stay in a private villa in Ubud.
We stayed here for 2 nights as a family of 8 (5A3C) and our biggest regret........is that we couldn't stay longer!
Great location - conveniently located just a short 10min walk through or around Monkey Forest to Ubud town and yet peacefully away from the hustle and bustle.
Friendly and hospitable staff - Yoni, Kadek and the rest of the staff were always within reach and willing to help. Didn't meet the host Peter but he was always fast to respond to emails and kindly let us stay for 2 nights although it's short of the minimum stay.
Delicious food - Breakfast was scrumptious especially the banana pancakes prepared by Kadek. Chilli cafe, which is just outside the villa, also serves great food.
Cosy Villa and endless fun - my kids love the homely feel of the villa. The pool and the basketball hoop provided hours of fun. Plenty of Lego bricks to keep them occupied. They were also entertained by Cookie the dog and Kitty the cat.
Highly recommended! We'll be Back!
Our group of 10 people - 3 families with kids ranging in age from 10 to 5 - had the. It's fantastic time at this palace of a villa. This is the kind of house that you wander around and exclaim at constantly. You want it to be your very own house. Yoni and her wonderful staff made us feel very welcome, and safe. It's like your very own tropical resort, with a kitchen you can use if you want, but with staff who are more than happy to cook and clean and patrol the grounds at night. We loved Kadek, our chef, who cooked us Mee Goreng and left it in the fridge so when we arrived after dark we just had to reheat it. Plus she made the most ammmmmaaaaazing sambal, to die for. The kids spent all their time in the pool and playing with the beautiful dog Cookie. They wanted to take cookie with them when they left of course.
Location is one thing which I didn't mind, was out of the hustle and bustle of Ubud, in a village with some great food places - Chilli Grill right at the end of the lane, was delicious, and a local Warung down the road opposite the local soccer field was pretty good value. The only problem with the location was trying to decide whether walking through the monkey forest was ok - I didn't mind it after the first few trips, but you do have to pay, so taking a taxi ride (for a family) or a scooter (for single people) was cheaper and less stressful than wondering if a monkey was gonna land on you...
We highly recommend this villa. Thanks Peter for letting us enjoy it!
I am a seasoned traveller, but Rumah Kubu is now my favourite place I've ever stayed, and epitomises everything that is great about Airbnb.
This place is even better in real life than it looks online. The open spaces, natural timber features and jungle outlook make it feel like you’re in a giant, luxurious treehouse! The house has been renovated and decorated with a real eye for detail, and has the sort of unique touches that you'd never get in a hotel. You can swim in a private pool, lounge in beanbags and swing seats playing board games, relax in an ornate copper claw-foot bathtub looking out at the stars, sleep in a four-poster bed and then awake to breakfast personally prepared to your requirements – all surrounded by one-off furnishings and a peaceful tropical garden!
The main house and adjacent guest-house accommodated 9 of us easily, with 6 separate bedrooms meaning everyone had their own space. There were also numerous daybeds around the house, which could be set up as extra beds if required. Not all rooms have air-con, but the house is breezy and nights were a pleasant temperature when we were there in May, so we barely needed it. The top bedroom/study overlooks parts of the master bathroom, so this needs to be considered when deciding who sleeps where.
Communication prior to our stay was very good. They were fine about allowing a local company to install a temporary pool fence for the benefit of my 3-year-old niece. Yoni contacted me to confirm arrival times and see if we needed airport transfers. She welcomed us personally when we arrived, and her friendly manner and excellent English made us feel at home right away.
Kadek, the cook, bought our groceries and made a delicious breakfast for us every morning, and also advance-prepared dinner for us one night. This was cost-effective and a good option if you don’t feel like going out for every meal. The other staff were also great: friendly non-intrusive and trustworthy. We also appreciated the relaxed presence of Cookie the dog and Kitty the cat.
Nyah Kuning Village is quiet, but well serviced by shops, travel agencies and eateries. There are several great restaurants close by, including Chili Grill, Bali Bohemia, and Laka Leke, which has traditional dance performances every evening.
The 10 – 15 minute walk into Ubud was fine, even though it’s on a narrow path shared with monkeys and motorcycles. Alternatively, it’s easy to find a taxi into town on the street for around 50000 to 100000 IDR, ($5 - $10).
After our 4 day stay we left reluctantly with hugs, smiles, and hopes of returning with all our friends some time in the future.
Thank you to Peter and Janet for making it possible for us to stay in your dream home, and thanks to Yoni, Kadek and all the rest of the staff for looking after us so well while we were here.
My family and I (7 in total) stayed for 4 nights in this great house. The house was comfortable, clean and as it appears in the pictures. The staff are so helpful and it is great to have the services of a cook (food not included) for breakfast. The location is fantastic. Communication with the host was very good and all went very smoothly.
I can highly recommend this as a great place to stay
Our stay was very good. The staff was warm, welcoming, helpful, and was very good about communication (including using alternates like What'sApp). We had significant privacy, but could ask for anything that we needed or wanted.
The house was matched up to the pictures and we found it very comfortable for two families. We had comfortable common areas, but privacy with the bedrooms.
The location is easily walkable to Ubud without all the traffic, and it is so much fun to walk through the Monkey Forest. At the end of the street was a small store to buy snacks and drinks as well as a restaurant where we had breakfast.
The only thing we had trouble with was getting taxis. The taxi stand in the village was often unattended, and as the driving route was significantly longer than the walking route so the fares quoted were high and drivers weren't willing to negotiate.
As we had a very late flight, the hosts let us stay at another property on the same lane. While is was smaller, it was beautiful as well
