    Response from Jon Imanol:

  • We stayed for 2 nights, the room was very clean, well located, we didn't have the opportunity to meet Jon Imanol but his wife Gloria is very nice, she loves to talk, we had the apartment almost just for us because they gave us so much privacy, they gave us eggs, bread, cereal, milk, coffee, tea and cookies for breakfast!!! Gloria gave us a map and so many recommendations to do.

  • We had a brilliant stay with Imanol and Gloria in Bilbao. There was a confusion about what time we arrived as we had no WiFi whilst travelling there but they went to every effort to make sure the place was ready for us.
Gloria was so helpful and showed us the area with maps etc. even though there was a bit of a language barrier, she made sure this wasn't a problem.
Imanol was also very helpful and gave us some great suggestions for how to spend our time there - he even helped me think of surprise for my partner's birthday!
They were a lot of fun to spend time with, and we had some lovely evenings watching Game of Thrones and the football together!
The apartment itself is in a perfect location and we were able to come and go as we pleased. We were made to feel very at home and had access to the kitchen. The room is small but fine - no smell of mould or anything as other reviews have said.
We really enjoyed our time there and would definitely do it again - thank you!

  • I’d like to refer everyone to the review by Leo from July 2013 - it’s objective and on-point. I agree that the room should not be charged for.

When we arrived, we agreed that it was small, but were pleased to see that there was a dresser for us in the room - until we opened it and saw the owner’s personal belongings. Another piece of furniture in the room had their shoes. Another had their towels. Another had their books. They did leave two of the bottom shelves of the bookcase for us….which were positioned in such a way that they were basically unusable.

If the room were empty of their personal belongings, it would be rentable.

The walls are indeed quite thin so there isn’t a sense of privacy. Also because there is no window, the room gets stuffy and an alarm clock becomes of utmost importance!

The owner said we could use the kitchen, but we wouldn’t have felt comfortable cooking in it. The bathroom is shared among everyone in the house, and it’s quite small. I would have appreciated knowing that the hot water runs out after a few minutes. I was left in cold water with shampoo in my hair.

All that said - the woman who we met was super welcoming and kind. The location is indeed excellent - it really is a short walk to the Guggenheim. We drove, and it was hugely convenient to have free parking on a private street. The bed is very comfortable. Though the place is kind of messy or “full of stuff” - it is clean.

Compared to the cost of all the other places to stay in Bilbao, if you’re on a budget this will do. It certainly forces you to get out and into the city. If you’re looking for some privacy and comfort this definitely isn’t the spot - it’d be worth paying a bit more.

  • Gloria and her son were nice and friendly. Gloria was so nice, even though we couldn't keep a long conversation in Spanish, she didn't let the language barrier ruin anything, she always had a smile and took time to talk to us, she even showed us around in a different town! We will never forget that. The bedroom is small but good for one to two people and the bathroom had hot water with good pressure. The location was perfect with walking distance to everything (restaurants, stores, plazas, metro, and buses).

  • The location is not far from Guggenheim museum and the city center. The room is small but comfortable and clean. Imanol and his family are very friendly people, it was nice to stay at their place.
