Magical forest drive to Jewel in the Forest....only 2 miles from Coast Hwy 1....a spectacular drive!
I LOVE the magical forest drive off Hwy 1 to my house....I love the beautiful trees....the stream....the smells and sounds. I have some great neighbors too though we don't see each other often. There is a very important document from the MCVRA (Monterey Cty Vacation Rentals Alliance) which I've been required to share with you and I thank you in advance for taking the time to read it carefully.

Sofanya's Calla Lilly Cottage is exactly as described; a natural, cozy and colorful cottage surrounded by tall redwoods. It was perfect for our family of four for two days. It's not too far from Carmel and several beautiful beaches, but its also part way up a long winding road that takes you beyond the redwoods and into the highlands of the Ventana Wilderness, where we found some good hiking trails. Each night we ate dinner outside around a fire pit. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom and kitchen are nice and functional. Sofanya's art fills the cottage and the surrounding property, which contains a few other rental units. Other than a slight mixup with the key that had us locked out when we first arrived, this was a perfect place. If such a thing as a fairy house in the forest really exists, this is it!
I had an amazing time at the Calla Lilly Cottage. The drive back on the road to the property is simply magical. You are literally driving through a giant forest surrounded by redwoods. It's so nurturing.
I arrived and the cottage was just as described. Quiet, cozy, serene. The perfect getaway for stillness and enjoying the simple sound of nature.
Sofanya was so welcoming, hospitable, and thoughtful. I immediately knew I had picked the right place. I was so impressed by the property that she gave me a tour of some of the other units and it's truly a special place.
Her sweet dog Star Lily is another bonus for any dog lover and she treated me like she had known me before laying down right at my feet. I also had the opportunity for Sofanya to do an essence portrait which I highly recommend.
Can't say enough good things about this wonderful place!
A cozy little cottage in a gorgeous redwood forest, extremely friendly host (and pets :D), close to ocean and great hiking... Couldn't have asked for more. Great experience
The Calla Lilly Cottage was exactly what we were looking for: a magical refuge that could serve as both a point of relaxation/exploration on its own as well as an HQ/launching point for the surrounding sites. Sofanya was obviously a very experienced host and made us feel so welcome, sharing her love of the area and of her enchanted little corner of the woods. Our son fell in love with Star Lilly, the 6-month old rescue pup (despite a bumpy initial encounter!), and shed a tear when we had to say goodbye. Take advantage of the painting and journaling supplies (if you're into that). Looking forward to staying here in the future -- or at the very least stopping by to say hello!
This is such a beautiful sweet family! I so enjoyed Sophocles, Sheila and of course their adorable son Cal...a sweet boy and he made an amazing painting while here, depicting what he experienced while visiting. My dog Star Lilly visited them frequently and I was grateful that they liked her too.
Great guests....would love to have them back here again!
What an amazing place to spend 5 days. My 3 brothers, father, and myself enjoyed an incredibly relaxing and private vacation here at the calla Lilly cottage. The area is gorgeous, the accommodations were perfect and Sofanya was a very thoughtful and dedicated host. What a wonderful time we had. Thanks again for having us!
As soon as we turned onto the road leading up to the cottage, we felt the stars were aligned and we were meant to stay at the Calla Lilly cottage. The beautiful lilies, towering redwoods, fresh quiet air, and Sofanya's wonderful hospitality created an ambience like a cozy nest in the woods.
The natural light given off by the skylight in the cottage made us feel like we were staying in the wilderness and inspired the artists in us. The bedroom was cozy and the living room was enhanced by art supplies, books and a guitar. The kitchen contained basic necessities for making a meal. Overall, the cottage was a comfortable nest.
One of the evenings, we were entertained by other guests and locals and enjoyed interesting conversations underneath the canopy of the redwoods. Sofanya had lights and a bonfire which set a magical mood.
Overall our stay in the cottage was wonderful and a great location to visit areas of interest around Big Sur.
Nancy & Eric were very kind, interesting and fun guests. I was grateful that they joined as it happened that we had a little live music that evening with visiting guests and my local friend Josh. I love when that happens!
Also I think that they may have done a little painting as well....
I hope that they will visit again.
Upon first turning off of 1 to Palo Colorado drive, we knew we'd happened onto a special place... a twisting, winding road through a dense forest led us to to Sofanya's incredible property, where we immediately felt welcomed and at home. The Calla Lilly was the perfect accommodation for our Big Sur trip: comfortable beds, plenty of towels, and a kitchen that had ALL the pots/pans/condiments/coffee you could ever hope for away from home. We even became experts at starting fires in our wood stove, quite an accomplishment for four NYC girls! This was by FAR our favorite stop on our road trip up the coast, and all of us are planning on returning in the future. Thank you Sofanya!!

About the Host, Sofanya
I am so pleased to welcome guests to stay here at my "Jewel in the Forest" with choices for several very "glamorustic" magical houses and cottages. It is so rewarding to know that people can come here to stay for a vacation, business trip or even a retreat for healing and leave with wonderful peace and memories and a desire to come back!
I am an artist so Blessed to live and work in this paradise forest in between Big Sur and Carmel.
I'm inspired by the knowing that each of us are nature and not separate from it. This is the basis of my art and healing work. People often ask me what kind of art I make and the truth is "Life is the Art"!
I work in many mediums and love the exploration and discovery of art as a medium for the universe of knowledge to come through the paintings and sculpture. I have for many years enjoyed welcoming people from all over the world into my gallery & studio here on the "Jewel in the Forest" property. We also have a small area I call "Carabella's Theatre" where we hold seasonal gatherings, weddings, workshops etc. I am so pleased to welcome guests to stay here at my "Jewel in the Forest" with choices for several very "glamorustic" magical houses and cottages.
