Essence was great! Good food, great views, and fair prices. Don't let the distance from la fortuna scare you.

Essence is great! We stayed in one of the tents, which are much more sturdy than the word "tent" implies. These are tents with cement floors, one full cement wall with electricity run to it, a closet, and heavy, heavy canvas covering. They're legit, and sleeping in them is a treat. The views all around the property are absolutely stunning, and the staff are lovely and welcoming. Special shout out to the chef (I forgot her name!) who made the best meal we ate in all of Costa Rica.

The view was magic when we wake up. This is close to an entrance to the park and cerro chato trail. Lunch was so good and with an attractive price. They gave us informations we needed.

We stayed at Essence for two nights in a tent cabin. The accommodations are somewhere between camping in a canvas tent and staying in a minimalistic motel room. It is very comfortable with bunkbeds, double on the bottom and single on top. The room has a bench, small closet, and table. There is a large window that gives you a beautiful view. If you stay in the elevated treehouse tent cabins, you will have a small porch and a gorgeous view of the lake. Essence is a really nice place to stay, with communal areas, such as an open living room set up and great meals. Breakfast was $5.00, lunch $7.00 (I think, but we didn't have lunch), and dinner was $12.00. The breakfast was eggs both times and simple but filling. The one night was ok, but the second night which was mediterranean was amazing. The best part of the meals is the communal dining. You get to sit with and meet other people staying at essence and traveling. It's a really wonderful experience. The staff is also helpful, but I think Alex was the best, very warm and friendly. Isaac and I had nice conversations as well. The women who cooks was also great. There is a lot to do within 30 minutes of this area, including lots of hikes, horseback riding, and hot springs. It is best if you have a car though, and if you do have car, a 4-wheel drive works best, as the roads are not paved and can be quite rough. We definitely enjoyed our stay here, and would go back again!
