The Stained Glass Apt. in Edgewater

Apartment - Private room · North Lakewood Avenue, Chicago, IL 60660, United States

The Space

My apartment is on the third floor of a three flat brick building on a quiet tree lined street in Edgewater. It was built around 1920 in Prairie style featuring high ceilings, amazing woodwork and stained glass all of which have been restored. I'm a big fan of flea markets and antique stores so my home is filled with beautiful curiosities. My boyfriend calls it "The museum" but don't let that scare you :) The place has a really comfy and peaceful vibe. It is spacious and open in the way that one can stand at one end of the apartment and see through to the other end. There is an enclosed sunporch in the front of the house which offers a serene view of the tops of trees. The bedroom I can offer has a comfortable double bed and a most prized Eastlake antique dresser with egyptian pharaoh head drawer pulls.

The location is really prime as it's a 4 block walk to either Granville or Loyola redline train stations as well as 6 blocks to the lake. The neighborhood is really lovely and down right lush with trees and flowers (when weather permits) Although Edgewater is a 30-45 minute train ride downtown, there is something to be said for staying here and getting a taste of a real Chicago neighborhood. Staying downtown is great in many ways but it is the typical tourist view and you will not experience what I consider to be the real heart of Chicago where the regular folks live. There are two antique malls, a couple of great coffee houses and restaurants all a short walk away.

I have a great espresso machine and would be happy to make you a cappuccino, at least the first morning of your stay! If you don't love coffee I will not judge...there's always tea :) Upon advance request I will bake chocolate cherry scones. It's the only thing I know how to bake but I think I've perfected them :)

About me: I am a passionate traveler, stained glass artist, writer wanna be, bicycle riding, yoga practicing, bar tending, dog walking kind of a gal. I have made a lot of friends all over the world and have hosted quite a few as well as been hosted when traveling. I love meeting new people and I'm looking forward to meeting you!

P.S. I usually do not accept requests without a good amount of information about the guests. So please write a detailed profile and put up some pictures. If there is more than one guest include pictures of both people. Thank you!

  • Just for starters, Felice's place is stunning. Her eye for rehabbing her place is right on, done to the style of the place as it was meant to be. Her decorating are so like our own that we felt at home. She is an artist - stain glass to name only one medium.

Felice is an easy, quiet, and warm person. We are grateful to have found her place which is in a quiet spot in Edgewater, within walking distance of the red line at Granville. Our stay with Felice was great and we would stay again in a heartbeat.

  • This was our first trip using Airbnb and it was fantastic. Felice's apartment is beautiful, with stunning craftsmanship in the kitchen. She was a fantastic host & made us feel very welcome. Our trips into the city were easy, as parking at Felice's house was a breeze. The Red Line is less than a 10 minute walk from her home. We had a great time.

  • Staying at The Stained Glass Apt, is a truly unique and great experience. A real Chicago gem. The apartment was comfortable, clean, and full of different types of works of art to be discovered everywhere. Felice, was more than happy to talk about them and explain their origin, as well as share travel experiences. She is a wonderful, generous, and helpful host. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to try her special cappuccino, make sure you do not miss out on that additional bonus too!

  • First and foremost, the stained glass apartment is simply GORGEOUS. I have total apartment envy. The neighborhood is absolutely adorable, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to explore this part of Chicago. If you are looking for a real slice of what it's like to live in the city, this is the cozy, warm, welcoming, environment for you.

The train is super close, and I thoroughly enjoyed my walk there and back each day. I spent a week here when I was in between apartments...brand new to Air BnB, I was a little apprehensive about the whole experience, but Felice was an amazingly welcoming hostess. My first afternoon (a cold, snow-filled day) Felice greeted me with hot tea and homemade chocolate cherry scones. The next afternoon, she generously shared her kitchen (and her recipes) with me--we enjoyed drinking beer and cooking dinner together!

The bed was comfy. The place was sparkling clean. The bathroom was spotless. I had a lovely time here and I would recommend it to anyone! Felice, thank you for the best week I've had since I moved to Chicago!

  • Staying with Felice was great! After an early-morning flight and a train ride out to Edgewater, we were so happy to be met with her offer of fresh-made coffee! Felice's space was a perfect home base for our quick stop in Chicago, and her advice and friendliness made the trip even more enjoyable. We'd definitely consider staying here again--a great host, a cool neighborhood, easy accessibility to the Red Line, and a welcoming space all made this a great experience.

  • Well what can we say.....if you want to have a boring stay in a dull home with an uninteresting host.....don't stay here! Felice is the warmest soul who has a passion for travel & a love of people. She was extremely helpful in finding out what we were into so she could help with suggestions. Her home is one of peace & is surrounded by curiosities & pieces that reflect her unique & open personality. We cannot speak enough of our wonderful stay. The neighbourhood is lovely with beautiful homes lining the streets. Go for a walk & chase some squirrels! Most importantly......she has a coffee machine. We love you Felice & will always look on our stay in Chicago with a warm smile. Whenever we drink spiced rum we'll think of you xxxx ;)

  • If you're interested in a cool art-filled apartment in a thriving Chicago neighborhood close to public transport with a great host, this is your place! Bonus: it's reasonably priced! Felice is a Chicago native, an artist by trade, and world traveler. She showed herself to be a wonderful host--warm and welcoming, generous, responsible, and most knowledgeable. When I arrived at the apartment much later than anticipated, tired and dragged out, Felice offered me a meal that she had prepared. The next morning, she made us cappuccinos and scones. It doesn't get better than that.

  • Felice is a warm and welcoming host. I felt completely at home in her beautiful apartment. Each room is filled with works of art, hand crafted and unique. Felice is a fascinating person to share a coffee with and will indulge you with a delicious expresso each morning. Staying in her home was an excellent way to visit Chicago. The apartment is located in a fun neighborhood and is walking distance to public transportation and lots of restaurants.

  • We are also sorry we missed you, Felice (I had to get to work early)! Our afternoon chat was great, and we really enjoyed our stay. The neighborhood was a lot of fun -- we really enjoyed Gino's North and Ellipsis in particular.

About
I am currently on a new path=which really means I lost my job and I want to try something different. I have done quite a bit of international travel and hope to do a lot more. I love people. I am a stained glass artist, card maker and writer. I am obsessed with postcards. I'm really in love with Chicago and although I've lived here my whole life I continue to discover new treasure! Some things that I love: Writing, reading, bicycling, coffee, trying different types of food, yoga, movies, old cemeteries, art museums, photography, vintage postcards, pen pals, architecture, antique markets, folk art, tiles, decorative metal, wine, beer, and a well crafted cocktail and of course, traveling!!! I believe good things can come from seemingly bad things: the symbolic opening of a new door. I strive to be present, recognize beauty, project love, and be extremely grateful for my life. Each person I meet reinforces my belief in a world full of love and kindness and every new friend makes it a better place. Traveling has been my most valuable education. Places I have traveled: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, Netherlands, Peru, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Wales
