About this listing
Quiet, clean and cozy, private.
Centrally located in the Mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles, this separate guest house (well, bungalow really, just one large room - 450 sq ft) is set in the garden patio off a main house, which we occupy. The guest house is separate from our house. We make and sell wine for a living, and for the most part work from home. We have a very friendly dog named "Bubbles" who suns herself in the backyard daily, so we just ask that you be aware of where she is when you open and close the back door, and of course of being sure the back door/gate is locked securely when you load luggage and leave (sadly, she will run away if the back gate/door is left open even for a moment)!
The back house can be accessed through the patio (meaning, you come and go on your own). It features a queen bed, a couch, a day bed, a twin trundle bed below the day bed and full stone tiled bathroom. Note there is not a full kitchen, but there is a coffee / tea station (kettle for tea and Starbucks Via, which we provide) and a microwave and mini-fridge with a freezer for your breakfast convenience. Also, there is a wood table outside your french doors which you are welcome to use for dining.
There is a flatscreen HD TV (not pictured, as it was put in after the photos were taken) with Direct TV and cable (including HBO, Showtime, etc).
The house is about a 10 minute drive from The Grove, Farmer's Market, and about 15-20 minutes from downtown LA, 15 minutes from Beverly Hills, and about 25 minutes from Santa Monica (this assumes traffic is reasonable!)
There are a number of restaurants and bars up La Brea minutes from the house. Starbucks is an easy walk from the house and there are some fast food places that you can walk to as well (should you want that, but we, of course, don't recommend!) We are happy to provide a list of restaurants we like in the area.
We do not provide a parking space, but street parking is ample and very easy, often available right in front of the house. There are two street cleaning days (Wednesday and Thursday 9am-12pm) so you just need to pay close attention to signs before parking your car mid-week, but there's never a problem finding a space to park.
Note: the guest house does not have central air or heat. We have an AC unit for the summertime, which cools the house nicely at night (due to the steep temperature drops between day and night in LA). For the winter months there is a powerful space heater, which heats the house within an hour or so. We will turn the heater on before your visit on very cool days.
No pets. No smoking please.
Check-in is anytime after 3pm.
Check out is 11am the day of departure.
Two last things... I often get asked if our house is in a safe area. Our house is located in a safe residential area in mid-city called Longwood Highlands. That said, it's still in the middle of the city. We ask that our guests take safety precautions as they would in any other major city in the world (locking the guest house when you leave, not walking the streets late at night, locking your car, etc).
I also frequently get questions about public transportation... I highly recommend that our guests rent a car during their stay. Public transportation in Los Angeles is notoriously slow and inefficient. The metro (train) doesn't go many places and the buses are overcrowded. You can catch the bus 3 blocks North and 2 blocks East, but why spend your trip waiting for buses? Renting a car with a GPS system is the best way to get around. Trust me on this one! :):) Amy
We are looking for responsible, quiet couples or 2 people who need a nice, clean, place to stay. No smoking please. We have a dog who is often watching for squirrels in the backyard, so we just ask that the back gate is never left open even for a moment (i.e. when loading luggage) she's a fast runner!
Cancel up to 24 hours before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
We are foodies and winemakers currently living and working between Los Angeles and Lompoc, CA (where we make our wine). We love our teenager and our dog, Bubbles!
