Quiet, clean and cozy, private.
Centrally located in the Mid-Wilshire district of Los Angeles, this separate guest house (well, bungalow really, just one large room - 450 sq ft) is set in the garden patio off a main house, which we occupy. The guest house is separate from our house. We make and sell wine for a living, and for the most part work from home. We have a very friendly dog named "Bubbles" who suns herself in the backyard daily, so we just ask that you be aware of where she is when you open and close the back door, and of course of being sure the back door/gate is locked securely when you load luggage and leave (sadly, she will run away if the back gate/door is left open even for a moment)!
The back house can be accessed through the patio (meaning, you come and go on your own). It features a full bed, a couch, a day bed, a twin trundle bed below the day bed and full stone tiled bathroom. Note there is not a full kitchen, but there is a coffee / tea station (kettle for tea and Starbucks Via, which we provide) and a microwave and mini-fridge with a freezer for your breakfast convenience. Also, there is a wood table outside your french doors which you are welcome to use for dining.
There is a flatscreen HD TV (not pictured, as it was put in after the photos were taken) with Direct TV and cable (including HBO, Showtime, etc).
The house is about a 10 minute drive from The Grove, Farmer's Market, and about 15-20 minutes from downtown LA, 15 minutes from Beverly Hills, and about 25 minutes from Santa Monica (this assumes traffic is reasonable!)
There are a number of restaurants and bars up La Brea minutes from the house. Starbucks is an easy walk from the house and there are some fast food places that you can walk to as well (should you want that, but we, of course, don't recommend!) We are happy to provide a list of restaurants we like in the area.
We do not provide a parking space, but street parking is ample and very easy, often available right in front of the house. There are two street cleaning days (Wednesday and Thursday 9am-12pm) so you just need to pay close attention to signs before parking your car mid-week, but there's never a problem finding a space to park.
Note: the guest house does not have central air or heat. We have a small AC unit for the summertime, which cools the house nicely at night (due to the steep temperature drops between day and night in LA). For the winter months there is a powerful space heater, which heats the house within an hour or so. We will turn the heater on before your visit on very cool days.
No pets. No smoking please.
Two last things... I often get asked if our house is in a safe area. Our house is located in a safe residential area in mid-city called Longwood Highlands. That said, it's still in the middle of the city. We ask that our guests take safety precautions as they would in any other major city in the world (locking the guest house when you leave, not walking the streets late at night, etc).
I also frequently get questions about public transportation... I highly recommend that our guests rent a car during their stay. Public transportation in Los Angeles is notoriously slow and inefficient. The metro (train) doesn't go many places and the buses are overcrowded. You can catch the bus 3 blocks North and 2 blocks East, but why spend your trip waiting for buses? Renting a car with a GPS system is the best way to get around. Trust me on this one! :):) Amy
Great place and wonderful hosts. Couldn't ask for a cozier + nicer appt!
I had a really nice stay. My flight got in early that morning and Amy and Peter were nice enough to block out the night before so I could check in earlier. This was my first airbnb stay and it was a great experience! I'm definitely doing this again.
I was in town for business, not play and Amy and Peter's place was absolutely perfect for me. The place was very clean and comfortable, and updated! After having a poor experience prior, being in a safe neighborhood and clean place was important to me. The vibe was very calming and I slept wonderfully. Amy and Peter happened to be going for a walk while I was checking in and they were both very friendly and helpful. Peter also came outside when I was leaving to make sure my stay had been a pleasant one. Really the only disappointing thing about my stay was that I was there for business and not able to relax and enjoy the patio in the daytime and such.
Amy and Peter...thank you for such a great stay.. The guest house was exactly as described on the site.. Super clean, private and felt like home away from home! Guest house had private entrance that felt secure and safe, as I had to come late a few nights while in LA visiting my daughter. 2 huge Skylights that were above the bed,, so I could see stars at night and pretty blue sky in the mornings. No kitchen in the guest house but wasn't necessary as I was on the run most of my time there... A small fridge to store a few groceries if needed and a Hot tea kettle that I used every morning! Amy and Peter had several selections of nice teas to choose from that I enjoyed very much. Hosts were very easy to communicate with and quickly responded to any question I had during my stay. There is also a trundle bed in the guest house that could accommodate another adult or several children. Perfect place to stay with a small family. On street parking, full size washer and dryer that were a bonus and this property was "quiet".... I slept like a rock while I was there.. .all the sounds of a busy LA were gone the minute I got into the property and closed the door... Refreshing and zen like,, you will love your stay here!
Thanks Amy and Peter for being Great hosts! I frequently stay in Los Angeles and this property will always be my first choice!
Amy & Peter's Place was fantastic. It is private, clean, warm and stocked with almost anything you need. It is a great space and central to almost anywhere we wanted to go in LA. Amy's directions were clear and her responsiveness to my questions quick and helpful. We only saw Amy and Bubbles briefly however I felt that if we needed anything they would be available to assist. There was ample on the street parking. It was the best introduction to Airbnb that I could hope for and definitely highly recommend it.
What can I say, I was looking for someplace that offered comfort, convenience and the best that L.A. has to offer and our hosts Amy & Peter provided that and much more. We ended up staying more than just one night and couldn't have been happier.
If you need to get away to Los Angeles, this is your place.

My friends and I had an awesome stay at Amy's place! It is a well-decored room with everything well-prepared! I mean literally everything. And the parking was very convenient too! It is a pity that we didnt meet with Amy but she replies messages and questions very quick and efficient. Also, I need to say that this room was perfectly capable of hosting 4 people actually. And I need to thanks Amy again for forgiving me broke her nice wine glasses. Sorry again and thank you so much!! I would highly recommend anyone to stay at Amy's place.
