Interaction with Guests
You can always email, text, or call with questions!
Greenpoint is a cool, young neighborhood with an old-world Polish vibe. It's up and coming, with a mixture of long-time residents and new young energy. Removed from some of the more central transit lines, Greenpoint is quieter, quainter, and has a bit of a throw-back feeling. There are some amazing parks, great waterfront views, and quiet streets with plenty of boutique shopping. People really LIVE in Greenpoint, and you won't see as many tourists as you would in neighboring Williamsburg (which we love!).
The G train is 1 block from the apartment, and the L train at Bedford or Lorimer is about a 10-15 minute walk away. Lots of busses will also give you options. Give yourself 30-45 minutes to get to where you're going. Traffic and transit will generally always get in the way - it's a NYC tradition!
Uber and yellow cabs are also a quick, but slightly pricier, way to get around.
Other Things to Note
There is no AC for the summer renters. Fans are provided for comfort, but there's a great cross-breeze in the apartment.
The apartment is on the corner of a well-trafficked street. While street-noise is always a part of city life, if you are particularly sensitive, please bring ear-plugs or look for a quieter abode.
There are no blinds on the windows of the apartment. Located on the top floor, privacy isn't an issue and we've chosen to let the sunlight flood in. If you're a sensitive sleeper, please note that the apartment brightens up as soon as the sun rises.
* Absolutely no smoking
* No parties, or extra guests during your stay, please. Our building is quiet, and family-run, and respecting our neighbors and the space help us keep it on AirBnb.
* At the end of your stay, please leave the apartment as you found it, and stripping linens so they can be washed.
* Small pets are permitted on a case-by-case basis.
My family of 4 stayed in Alana's flat and had an amazing time! Booking, communication and checking in was perfectly smooth, even without ever meeting Alana in person. The flat is spacious, and is truly a home, so kitchen, bathroom, etc. has everything you need in order to cook and make yourself at home. The architectural detail within the unit is beautiful and Alana has designed the interior in a vibrant, artistic and personal style. The neighborhood is very cool. We took the kids to 3 different parks and playgrounds, a farmer's market and visited vintage shops. Even the deli next door has tasty eats. While living here, we kept the windows open since it was a hot weekend. The city lights and noises were very (over)stimulating to the kids when trying to get them to sleep, but they were able to sleep nonetheless. We loved our time here, and hope to return in a few months!
Alana's flat is impeccably decorated. A true aesthetic gem. She is responsive and nice to boot. Good location - close to everything.
Alana's place was great! It's as darling as it looks in the pictures (if not more so). The rooftop views are incredible and you won't run out of fun things to do in the neighborhood. We would definitely stay there again!
The apartment was exactly like the photos. Clean, bright and airy. Very stylish. Alana was excellent at communication with us and responded in less than 2 minutes to each text. Check-in was very streamline and easy. No hiccups. She had a folder full of restaurant reco's in the area as well as some extra metro cards for us to use.
Alana made us feel very welcome before arriving and her description of "huge, sunny" apartment was accurate, except that there was no air conditioner and no curtains on the windows, which made for an unpleasantly HOT stay. The map is also listed incorrectly.
The listing states under the amenities that there is no AC. It's up to you to thoroughly read listings before you book. Almost every review of the apartment also comments on the blinds. While the map is incorrect, that's a product of AirBnb, and not the listing. The correct address is listed on your itinerary and it would have been very easy for you to double check.
I hope you had a nice weekend, regardless. :)
It is easy to see why Alana is a 'super host'. Her communication before our stay was great. We met her when we arrived and she couldn't have made us more welcome. The apartment is exactly as it appears - a light, bright haven above the streets of Greenpoint. All the other reviews are true. The downsides are the lack of curtains and the noise in the street. But the neighbourhood is so handy to everything. Must dos are Peter Pan Donuts, the Polish Deli on Manhattan St and say 'hi' to Debbie behind the counter at the grocery store with the sign that reads 'Biggest beer selection in Brooklyn'! And if you are in NY for 4 July, Alana's rooftop is THE place to be. A highlight. Also, Alana doesn't charge for cleaning - unique on AirBNB. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alana and her apartment.
The apartment was clean and tidy when I arrived and Alana had a lot of great information about the apartment, the neighborhood, and even some local recommendations. The location was really good - only a block from the Metro station so getting into Manhattan was easy.
Alana was extremely helpful and very responsive. She seemed genuinely interested in making my stay as comfortable as possible. The apartment itself was a really nice space.
The downsides to my stay were lack of air conditioning, lack of curtains, and, despite being very clean, the couple of roaches that appeared in the kitchen and bath (likely due to being in a very old building with neighbors who may not keep things as clean as Alana seems to). I would also recommend earplugs if you're not used to city noise, especially in the summer when you need to have the windows open.
