*Our neighborhood within NYC is called Astoria. It is a hidden gem in the New York NY metropolitan area. We are located in a quiet, serene and a very SAFE neighborhood. It is a wonderful and interesting neighborhood.......
Astoria is very close to midtown Manhattan and so it is an ideal location in which base yourself to enjoy and explore NYC. This is especially true for our house because we are so close to a major subway stop and subway line.
Astoria is known as a "Greek" community (people from Greece live here). Our area of Astoria is a vibrant mix of greeks, italians, "hipsters", midsters, oldsters, brazilians, yuppies, japanese, chinese, and just about everyone else in the world is represented. It is fun and interesting to be mixed into the multi-cultural atmosphere.
Astoria is a small town atmosphere that is very close to Manhattan.
Astoria is loaded with restaurants, bars, clubs, and shopping galore. Just about anything that you would want to buy you can find it here. Marshalls and many other discount retailers are very close to our house.
Our neighborhood is considered to be one of the most "up and coming" and popular neighborhoods in NYC.. People often describe Astoria as the east part of Midtown or the east side of the east side of Manhattan. Astoria is a much sought after neighborhood. It is easy and fun to walk around Astoria and soak in the many different subcultures of people groups within Astoria. You will find authentic and inexpensive restaurants from literally all over the world. There are coffee shops, pubs, bars, clubs and parks galore.
It's fun here.

* The 46th st. station for the subway trains (R and M lines) is less than a block away from our house (an easy 2 or 3 minute walk to the subway station) so it is very easy access to the NYC subway system. From the 46th st. station, it is approximately a 15 minute subway ride (4 stops) to the first stop in Manhattan (the Lexington station).
It is relatively easy to park your car in our neighborhood.

Other Things to Note
*We have the peace and quiet of country-like living but very close to Manhattan.
*Our backyard has a porch and barbeque area and a large garden. We have a front porch and a garden in front also. The sun hits the back porch in the a.m. and front porch in the p.m. It's a good home for having a great life in the city with room to live indoors and outdoors.
The beds are ikea beds. We have only heard positive comments about the mattress quality
*2 New Ikea beds with a queen size mattress (for two people each). Plus there is 1 new Ikea twin sized bed (for one person). So there are 3 total beds but could add in another twin sized bed if you want it.
*We have a small refrigerator, a sink, a microwave, a toaster and an electric kettle in your room. And we provide the linens and towels.
We also provide a hair dryer in the apt.

This is the second time I've stayed here, and I would do so again. The area is safe and comfortable, with lots of good food options and close proximity to the subway.
The room was exactly as described, totally private, and extremely close to a subway station. I never felt unsafe in their neighborhood coming back at night. The room does get cold in the winter while you're out exploring for the day but they provide two heaters (one for the room and one for the bathroom) so you can get it back to a comfortable temperature in time for bed. I would definitely recommend Dennis as a host and I would stay here again.
Dennis's house is located in a safe neighborhood and very close to a subway station (only 4 stations away from Manhattan), so thus perfect for travelers! The room is very spacious and equipped with a microwave, a coffeemaker, and a toaster. There's a Vitality & Health market and Rite Aid just around the corner.
Super easy access, clean, quiet and great location. Dannis is very nice and patient, even give me more time on check out cause I forgot the check out time and overslept, thanks & see you again!
Very friendly host.
The stay was pleasant and the location was great as well.
The only minus was the room/bathroom temperature - a little cold -
But I can't complain. Great value for the price.
Thank you Dennis for making my stay comfortable!
I had a great stay. It's a very nice apartment. The neighborhood is quiet and there's a 24 hour market close by. It was also very convenient to be so close to the train.
Dennis was very helpful, especially with allowing me to store my luggage before the actual check in time. The apartment has all of the conveniences, including microwave and teapot, which might make it conducive to a longer visit. The proximity to the subway is great. I had a good experience.
We have traveled much around the world.
Dennis "backpacked" around the world many years ago while staying mostly in hostels
Naoko grew up in Japan and attended college in America.
Dennis grew up in the midwestern U.S.A. and lived in California for a while also.
We met each other in New York.
We love New York and we would like to help you discover the wonders, architecture, culture and the beauty of New York.
