The Neighborhood

*Our neighborhood -Astoria, is a hidden gem in the New York metropolitan area.

It is a quiet, serene and a very SAFE neighborhood. It is a wonderful and interesting neighborhood.......

Astoria is very close to midtown Manhattan and so it is an ideal location in which to enjoy and explore NYC. This is especially true for our house because we are so close to a major subway stop and subway line.

Astoria is known as a "Greek" community (people from Greece live here). Our area of Astoria is a vibrant mix of greeks, italians, "hipsters", midsters, oldsters, brazilians, yuppies, japanese, chinese, and just about everyone else in the world is represented. It is fun and interesting to be mixed into the multi-cultural atmosphere.

Astoria is a small town atmosphere that is very close to Manhattan.

Astoria is overflowing and loaded with restaurants, bars, clubs, shops. Just about anything that you would want to buy you can find it here. This neighborhood is considered to be one of the most "up and coming" and popular neighborhoods in NYC.. Some people describe Astoria as the east part of Midtown or the east side of the east side of Manhattan. Astoria is a much sought after neighborhood. It is easy and fun to walk around Astoria and soak in the many different subcultures of people groups within Astoria. You will find authentic and inexpensive restaurants from literally all over the world. There are coffee shops, pubs, bars, clubs and parks galore.

It's fun here.

Getting around

* The 46th st. station for the subway trains (R and M lines) is less than a block away from our house (an easy 1 or 2 minute walk to the subway station) so it is very easy access to the NYC subway system. From the 46th st. station, it is approximately a 15 minute subway ride (4 stops) to the first stop in Manhattan (the Lexington station).

You can park your car on the streets in our neighborhood. It is relatively easy to park your car in our neighborhood.

Other Things to Note

*We have the peace and quiet of country-like living but very close to Manhattan.

*Our backyard has a porch and barbeque area and a large garden. We have a front porch and a garden in front also. The sun hits the back porch in the a.m. and front porch in the p.m. It's a good home for having a great life in the city with room to live indoors and outdoors.

The beds are ikea beds. We have only heard positive comments about the mattress quality

*2 New Ikea beds with a queen size mattress (for two people each). Plus there is 1 new Ikea twin sized bed (for one person). So there are 3 total beds but could add in another twin sized bed if you want it.

*We have a small refrigerator, a sink, a microwave, a toaster and an electric kettle in your room. And we provide the linens and towels.

  • This property is an excellent value and was perfect for a two day stay! Convenient, clean, and spacious, it's ideal if you want to be somewhere quiet, but also close to the action in Astoria, or Manhattan. I would highly recommend this place!

  • Dennis, the owner was very nice. We only saw him upon check in and check out but he was available if we needed him. The apartment was very clean, safe and convenient as the ad states. We would have liked to have access to a TV to just check the evening news and such, and a few more towels as we were there six days. But neither of them were "really" necessary. The apartment has a kitchen but other then a toaster or a microwave there was no way to cook actual food. Again, these aren't bad things just items we felt others might want to know about. They did provide a small refrigerator and the overall apartment was very spacious and quiet. Our stay in NYC was enjoyable and the subway station is very close and they have a grocery store in walking distance of the apartment. Great place for what we paid.

  • Great hospitality and friendly approach... It was comfortable and cosy. Really close to the subway! Great! Would highly recommend staying here!

  • We had a very nice stay! The appartment is right next to the subway and very close to Manhattan. It is located in a quiet and safe neighborhood with small restaurants, coffee shops and groceries stores minutes away. Parking on the street was also easy. It felt nice and relaxing to return to Astoria after walking all day long around Manhattan. Overall a great experience. Merci Dennis!

  • This was a great place to stay! The location was so amazing, getting to Manhattan was unbelievably easy, just a couple of minutes walk and grab the R train. Astoria was nice, safe and calm and everything you need is nearby. Dennis was a great host and the apartment was comfy and clean.

Hyvä, luotettava ja mukava paikka, suosittelen!

  • Dennis was great at communicating logistics and recommending places to eat. The room was basic, clean, safe, and we all slept well.

  • The place was everything I expected. Nice, clean, convenient. We stayed here for almost 2 weeks and we have nothing to say but good things. There was a fridge, microwave, and Dennis was kind enough to get us a toaster since he knew we were going to be there for a while. The house its located a block away from the subway and it really takes you 15 minutes to get to the city. Safe and quiet neighborhood! Astoria was extremely interesting and nice to get to know, there are a lot of restaurants, bars, pubs just blocks away from you, at a better price compared to the city.
Dennis was always available when we needed and also gave us the privacy, we got a key and were able to come in and out of the house as we pleased. Overall it was a great experience.

  • We had a comfortable stay and Dennis was very helpful.

  • Extremely convenient location, and for a reasonable price!! I couldn't believe how easy it was to get to mid-town from Astoria..incredibly easy access. Union Square, Carnegie Hall, even Chinatown, is all just one ride on the R-train. It's even easier than coming from some other places in Manhattan. At the same time, Astoria itself was much more relaxed than Manhattan, and it was nice to come home to it, after a long intense day in the city. (and yet, not too far away at all!) So, this was really perfect for us, with all that we had to do in the city during the day.
The apartment itself was very spacious for New York standards, and quite sufficient. I'm sorry that we couldn't really enjoy the garden, since it was too cold and wintry. I'm sure it would be nice to come in Spring and Summer time to sit outside with a mug of coffee..!
Dennis was very nice and helpful, and he made sure everything was comfortable for us. He had nice amenities, like single filter Folger's coffee (like a teabag, so you don't need a machine). We really liked that.
Would love to come back again!
