About this listing
Home featured in 'True Portland - The Unofficial Guide for Creative People' & here (website hidden). All the comforts and details are taken care of in this sweet room in a Central Portland Charming Home.
Turn of the century antique bed with custom made hypo-allergenic plush mattress and bedding affords a comfy night stay. Anyone over 6' 5" might find it a bit snug though.
I have a charming home in SW Portland that is filled with loving details, comfort and style. I have a passion for creating a warm, inviting environment where guests feel welcome and cared for. I am a native Oregonian and have an obsession with the local food scene, having been a chef at some amazing restaurants in town. I have a wealth of knowledge about what makes Portland special and have to say first and foremost it is the people. We are friendly and genuine and take a sincere interest in learning about others.
About the Room:
The room is so sweet and comfortable and it is one of my favorite rooms in the house. It has an Empire European bed that is cool and loaded with pillows and comfort (a hypo-allergenic custom made mattress), a comfy chair to read in, loads of books to read and botanical details. There is a shared bathroom on this floor that is equally charming.
I have towels, shampoo/conditioner and hair dryer available if desired.
*Please note that everyone who has stayed here has stated the bed looks much smaller in the photos than in person in case that helps, it is 73" long.
About the House:
The house has a formal living room, formal dining room, casual kitchen nook and kitchen which is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. There is an awesome new front load washer / dryer set in the basement. The backyard is really nice as I love to garden and have a three raised beds for growing veggies and herbs that you are more than welcome to enjoy. Internet is available but I do not subscribe to cable TV.
I have to say, one of the things I forget to mention but that I adore is having amazing water pressure with an unending supply of hot water. It is an amenity that should not be overlooked :).
My home is ideally situated near Lewis and Clark College, OHSU, PCC, great shops, newly remodeled Fred Meyer, gourmet Market of Choice, Starbucks, multiple bus lines running 2 blocks away and is 5 minutes from downtown right off the Terwilliger curves on I5. I am also close to Tigard, Beaverton, an amazing Sunday Farmers Market co-op close by. There are lots of cute little restaurants in Multnomah Village and Hillsdale. The neighborhood is very safe, dog and family friendly. Street parking is always available.
By car, I am 7 minutes from downtown PDX and 4 minutes from OHSU.
By bus, I am 15 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes from OHSU, there are stops super close to the house.
By foot, I am 30 minutes from downtown and 20 minutes to OHSU. There are two helpful apps, pdxbus and trimet that allow you to purchase passes and gauge where buses are in relation to our stop. I hope this helps.
I am a very creative woman and have many varied interests from gardening, reading, socializing with friends to welding. I enjoy having nice dinner parties but not crazy parties, I am 36 and beyond those years. I enjoy my home and enjoy going for dinner and movies. I love to cook and craft, I have a craft room downstairs in the basement I am happy to share.
All of the home amenities are available though I have the upstairs of the home also listed on airbnb and it may be unavailable for their privacy. I ask consideration be given to maintaining a clean and clutter free environment to respect others in my home. I have a new addition as well, a puppy Weimaraner who is adorable and sweet but any with allergies should take note. Additional day guests to my home may be discussed but overnights are not allowed.
Interaction with Guests
I am very social and enjoy building relationships but also respect privacy - I am really good about being flexible and creating unique experiences.
It is really central to getting around throughout Portland - easily by car and then by bus! The neighborhood is rich with neighbors who have all lived here 20-30 years and are generations of friends. It has a good vibe and a grocery and coffee shop within walking distance.
Convenient buses to downtown are 1, 12 and 38. They are a 5-7 minute walk from the front door and get you downtown within 10-15 minutes. By car you are 7 minutes from Portland, Beaverton, Tigard - super central! Load apps pdxbus and trimet to both pay for your tickets and track where the bus are in relation to running on time. Street parking with ease, regular buses and the neighboring hood has Car2Go'(website hidden) is a bike rental sharing company that you may want to look into. We also have ZipCars in the city.
Other Things to Note
The bed is best suited for someone shorter than 6' and ideal for someone 5'9" or shorter. I am 5'10 and sleep comfortably and have had men 6' sleep well in the bed but I believe they are side sleepers :). I have the upstairs of the home also listed on airbnb and it may be unavailable for their privacy.
I ask that the shared space be respected and maintained in a clean and orderly state as I do the same. I care very much for my home and appreciate it when guests do as well. If there is ever a concern or problem, I pride myself on remedying everything, please make me aware if there are ever any problems.
This is a non smoking home though I am friendly towards those who wish to smoke outside.
Really sweet home, with a lot of warmth and charm. Nice hostess, and good coffee. Good Wifi, on easy bus routes to down-town and and to Louis & Clark. I walked to Louis & Clark several times. Also walking distance to a nice little market. The back yard was particularly nice, and I was sad that I never found a moment to sit out there, but if I'd had more time, it looked very welcoming and relaxing. Shannon was nothing but pleasant and warm the whole time. Also - gave me access to her washer and dryer which was great.
The dog is not puppy-size any more, and not shy. But it really wasn't any kind of problem. I would just say that people should probably know this. Also, the bed in is really small. I'm 5'4" and my feet hung off the end. I sleep curled up so this too was not really a problem for me. But I think it would make sense to let people know about this up front.
Shannon was a good hostess and easy to be around.
Excellent experience! I'm a student in L&C, and the location is convenient enough. Because of the college's schedule, I'm so sorry to trouble Shannon a lot. She is a great host, and the puppy is very cute and smart!
Shannon is an amazing host! I feel welcomed when I saw a chalkboard sign with my name on it in the living room, and Shannon showed me around the house. She is a chef herself, so she's really good at recommending the best places to eat around Portland. She always tries to be available to make recommendations even when you're on the road. The room is absolutely comfortable, with a touch of quaint, retro elements. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and couldn't have asked for a better host than Shannon!
The house is in a nice and quiet neighborhood. The room is just like the picture and was comfortable. The house and garden have a vintage, whimsical, and creative vibe. The dog was quiet and well-behaved. The host responds to emails right away and made me feel welcome. She is a professional chef and really knows the dining scene in Portland. She suggested interesting places to eat and offered me fresh vegetables from her garden. She is a great host. I highly recommend this place!
Shannon and her home are awesome! Her home is so cute and beautiful and is a very fun place to stay. She's a very welcoming host and gave me really good recommendations of what to do and see while in Portland. She is a warm beautiful person and it was a joy to stay here.
I had a pleasant stay with Shannon in Portland. Her place is in a nice neighborhood and only a 20 minute drive from downtown. For a nice scenic drive to downtown Portland, follow Terwilliger Boulevard to 6th Avenue.
The pink room is perfect for a solo (smaller) traveler. The entire house is so cute and there's a really nice garden outside. Shannon is also really helpful with any questions you may have. The bed is not very big though so most taller people would be squished.
