~ ALOHA! ~
Come spend time in this supercharged, elemental power spot -- with TuTu PELE, the Goddess of the Volcano, here in my wonderful, Magical Sanctuary on the Lava. This is the closest place to stay if you want to be near the Live Lava & Ocean Entry, when it's flowing into the sea..
Gorgeous Kalapana has arguably, the best weather on the island -- sunny, dry, breezy, and almost NO MOSQUITOS! Located conveniently near Pahoa (15 min drive), as well as Uncle Robert's, Kehena Black Sand Beach, Kalani Retreat Center, etc.; yet very remote, peaceful, meditative and MAGICAL! Here, we live with the elements -- you are surrounded by dramatic black lava fields, you have a front-row seat to Pele's molten flow all day & night, the ocean sparkles on the horizon, and there's always a cool windy breeze! So in the daytime, you can swim with dolphins at the Black Sand Beach (10 minutes away, and the ONLY beach on the Puna side), and at night you can often watch Pele's fire coming down the volcano, underneath a gorgeous blanket of stars..
The Temple Loft is a unique, hand-crafted, two-story, off-the-grid, open-air loft, separate from our Main House (in the back, where we live). It was built mindfully, with Skylights, storm shutters, and a 360 degree view of Ocean & Lava, taking into account the intensely beautiful & powerful environment of Pele's home. So you can enjoy your epic view, yet sleep sheltered and peacefully.
The Temple Loft is open, spacious, and elegantly furnished. Queen size bed, Balinese altars & daybed, etc. 1-3 people can stay here. You will have ample electricity, hi-speed internet, clean linens and towels, fully-stocked kitchen (with citrus juicer, Nutribullet blender, stove, fridge, tea, spices, etc), private pretty bathroom with hot shower & lava-stone floor, & fancy swedish composting toilet, considerate host, etc. : ) Perfect for yoga, writing, meditation, hiking to the lava, or just a magical stay in Puna!
I will let you know about all the best local places to swim, surf, snorkel, hike, stargaze, shop, dance, etc. Beautiful, magical places to enjoy & visit -- such as the Mermaid Ponds, Kehena Black Sand Beach, Geothermal Warm Ponds, Tide Pools, Waterfalls, Live flowing Lava, Local Farmers' Markets, etc. as well as local events..
PeleMa has blessed me to be the Caretaker of this Sacred Sanctuary. I am joyous, kind, compassionate, considerate and respectful.
When possible, I also offer:
- Airport Pick Up (Hilo is 1 hour away)
- Sightseeing & Guided Tours to local sacred sites
- Kundalini Yoga / Qi Gong classes
- Sound Healing Gong Baths
- Healthy Elixirs & Tonics
Please inquire for more info.
I look forward to welcoming you to the magical Big Island!!
Love & Blessings ~~~ : )

Incredible place, Unique Experience. Jade will do everything to make you happy and have an unforgettable sojourn. I was very sad to leave. If you want to step away from the world, for a bit, this is the place where to go.
Jade's place was amazing! Not only was the lava loft on a lava field but it is right next to the ocean. At night one can really feel a special connection with nature from this location. Jade herself was an amazing host, always very clear and attentive to my wishes, even wishes I didn't know I had, one day she made me an amazing elixir. Jade also gave me directions to see many various attractions on the Puna side of the Big Island which I will never forget. I very much recommend the lava loft for anyone seeking a unique Hawaiian experience from an amazing host.
We had a wonderful stay at Jade's Lava Loft in early February. It is such a unique setting! When else are you going to stay on a hardened lava field in an open air, studio yoga/meditation space?
In any case, we loved the space itself and Jade is a generous and grounded woman who provided us with info on some key things to do and see and experiences to have. It's such a beautiful area and we loved driving along the Red Road from Jade's house to see the surrounding area. We found amazing fruit to eat down the Red Road and some great restaurants in Pahoa along with the healthy grocery store.
Thanks very much Jade. We may see you again sometime!

We were enchanted by our stay at Jade's loft. The location is nothing short of amazing. Jade is a wonderful host, making sure we knew where to go and what was going on locally (don't miss the market in Kalapana on Wednesday night) as well as making very flavourful coconut water fruit drinks. She invited us her gong bath, ahhh mind blowing, wow, do this. She knows her way around a gong! Lovely woman.
If you like camping, communing with nature, experiencing something off the beaten path this is for you.
The Lava Loft was just as the name suggested, magical. It was a peaceful retreat that was much needed. The room is open on two sides, so there's a wonderful breeze that blows through, which feels fabulous. The views of the lava fields, ocean and stars are unrivaled. If you hike out to the ocean (over the lava, which makes a fabulous crunching noise... bring good hiking shoes), you have the ocean to yourself! So very peaceful.
Jade is a lovely hostess. She gave us great recommendations for activities and has provided a great space. She also keeps tabs on you when you hike out over the lava, to make sure you return safely, as it is easy to get lost without landmarks.
The kitchen is fully stocked and fun to use. It's down stairs from the living/sleeping area, as is the bathroom and shower, but the dual floor layout is easy to work with.
We totally enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Staying at lava loft was a humble spiritual experience to say the least. I enjoyed very much the natural sounds of the wind blowing through, the rain passing over, the tree leaves dancing, the bugs singing… Being in complete darkness at night with only natural lights was very comforting and peaceful. I never knew that the moon light was so bright and there are so many stars in the sky. I mean so many that I didn't even have to raise my head! Walking on the crunchy surface of lava field and standing on recent formed black lava beach watching, hearing and feeling the waves crashing against it was mind blowing and the emotion was powerful yet indescribable.
Jade was a very friendly, caring, easy going and helpful host. She pointed us to local attractions and suggested us where to go and what to do, so we got to enjoy not only visiting the beautiful natural spots but experiencing the local life as well such as shopping and eating at the farmers markets, practicing yoga, etc. She even saved our day by helping us get through our car rental issues and made us special drink when we didn't feel so well!!
I really appreciated my stay there and wish to come back soon. Thanks Jade for everything!!
we had a great time at the lava loft!
it is a great experience to wake up and see black lava till
the end of the horizon. It is very mystic. at night you hear the wind blowing
through the lava fields. the short rain showers at night are also awesome
and the wind can make you not sleep very well, but you feel very close
to the nature!
one side of the loft is equipped with windows, the other side not:
so spiders, gecos and cockroaches can come inside. no mosquitos.
but this isn't a problem, because you live on a huge lava field and you can do this
only on this unique place. try it!
jade is a wonderful friendly host, who gives us many suggestions to see on the island.
Jade's' lava loft is the most interesting place I ever stayed at in my life. The location is spectacular, a huge loft with lots of light and open to the air, sitting on a lava field created from an eruption 30 yrs ago. It's breathtakingly beautiful. I really loved the silence and solitude too (especially since I live in noisy NYC). I spent 3 days there, 2 days of touring the volcano area which is about 80 minutes north, and 1 day driving along Red Road and taking some back roads. The prettiest side road off Red road was Pohoiki Rd.with gorgeous mystical canopy trees.
The loft and environs were very peaceful, mostly sunny and quiet with the exception of a few birds and bees and soft wind. I could of just stayed in the loft for days if I had the time, to soak up the energy of the place.
Beyond all that, Jade made me feel very welcome and I was treated as a honored guest. She is a very interesting person, caring, and full of joy. She's also an easy person to talk to, maybe because she's a practitioner of yoga, meditation, and Tibetian buddhism. To my delight, she also gave me a gong bath, which was really neat, on my birthday! Words can't describe how great her place is and how the black volcano landscape inspires feelings of strength, power and peace. Mahalo Jade, for making this space available to the public, and even now, I look forward to returning another day!
The loft is really and sincerely magic. I thought a lot about it before going there, because I was not sure if I could sleep in a room that is partially open. But the pictures just were so nice I had to try.
I tried it and I am so glad I did!
Nights are quiet, no frogs, some dogs sometimes, nearly no cars. Only the wind lets the plant make some noise. It was not cold at night and even if it were Jade has enough extra covers.
I had some problems with the mosquitos, but I usually have, they like me everywhere I go. I (email hidden) but Jade has one, too.
You should get something to eat with you because there are not so many possibilities of eating out there.
It is a great place to start for lava hikes or boat tours. To visit the Volcanoes National Parc is at least a 45min drive.
So even without any lava flowing (the volcano has decided to rest a bit...) the location has its own power and peacefulness. I especially liked to walk in the neighborhood and to look at the different lava structures around me. Couldn't get enough of it!
Jade is a very caring woman. Mahalo, Jade, for sharing your loft with me! I hope I will be back sometime!
