General info and location:
This spacious and bright, private room is located in Long Island City - Queens, an area across the river from midtown Manhattan. The house is across the street from the 7 subway line, which takes you straight to Manhattan (8 minutes to Grand Central, 12 minutes to Times Square, 17 min to the Village). The E, M, and G subway lines are also one block away, giving just as speedy access to all parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn (5 min to Williamsburg, 30 min to Park Slope) and Queens.
We are close to the Queens MOMA PS1 museum, which also hosts outdoor dance parties on Saturdays in the summer. We are five minutes from a handful of good restaurants and bars in the LIC area. There is a 24-hour diner across the street where the food is decent, and uniquely New York!
The room is quite big and feels like a private studio with its own private bathroom, jacuzzi tub and semi-private entrance. It has recently been renovated and painted so everything is in mint condition. It is fully furnished with a queen size bed, and a desk for your computer with a comfortable chair to rest your laurels. We’ve also set up a little “breakfast nook” for you to make and enjoy an assortment of teas, or coffee, in the comfort of your room.
The room has beautiful 1880s wood floors. We've put a lot of love into making the space feel harmonious and lively, down to the subtle essential oils we diffuse around the house!
There are two windows facing the lush garden that add a sense of calm to your stay while you wake in the morning. In addition to the two windows in the bedroom, there is even a full size window in your private large bathroom! Please note that we have installed blinds in all windows and will be updating our room photos soon to reflect this. There is a small amount of noise from the subway station, which is nearby (but that also means your travel time to the city will be short!). An air conditioning unit is provided in the summer months for your comfort.
We provide clean bedding and towels for the guests, and there is free super speedy wireless Internet, maintained by on-site IT guys.
This is an historic townhouse from 1881 shared by 5 artists situated on a landmark NYC block. You will enjoy a private bathroom where you can soak your aches away in the giant jacuzzi bathtub after a long day of seeing the sights.
Catherine and Karl live on the two floors above your room, and are available for questions and recommendations. in addition to our comfortable living room, one floor up, you also have access to our shared kitchen, if you would like to cook meals for yourself.
Laundry, groceries and parking:
Laundry is right in the basement of our house and the closest grocery store is about a 5 minute walk. For those of you with cars, you can usually find free, long-term parking with no problem in the evenings within a two-block radius. Finding parking in the daytime is more challenging.
Little bonuses: Iron and ironing table, French press coffee maker, assorted teas and tea water boiler in the room. We can provide Yoga mats at no charge for you to practice during your stay (we only ask that you wash them after using them).
Interaction with Guests
We are normally available to introduce you to the space and help you get acclimated to the city. In addition to us, there are also 3 others who are permanent residents of the house whom you may run into occasionally.
If you are coming from another country, we can lend you an American cell phone into which you can put an American SIM card. We have great maps and local directories to make navigating the city easy. There is a hot-pink cheetah print hair dryer and most other amenities (not all hot pink cheetah print) available upon request.
Looking forward to having you stay with us!
This is a non-smoking home and a shoe-free home. We kindly request that you leave your shoes at the entrance.
We are fairly laid back in terms of noise during the day, however after 10pm and/or at the request of other housemates, we ask you keep the noise level to a minimum for the sake of the early risers in the house and on the block.
Access to the back yard is available by request.
Amazing experience! My wife and I arrived quite late after our plane was delayed due to a snowstorm, but Catherine was totally accommodating and welcoming. The room is super comfortable, even with the winter wind and bitter temperatures. It was awesome to have the shared kitchen space for when we weren't up for venturing out in the cold. And the neighborhood is really nicely situated – very residential and calm, great restaurants and bars, but walkable enough that we could wander down to Greenpoint and Williamsburg for the day and then across the Queensboro bridge to the East Side the next. A really wonderful experience overall – highly recommend!
Siamo rientrati a notte fonda senza alcun problema.
Karl and Catherine's home is very stylish and comfortable, complete with a brownstone entryway, an urban garden in the backyard, a gorgeous rooftop view, and cool artwork on every wall.
The jacuzzi suite was charming and spacious. The room is stocked with snacks, a hot water boiler and tea, and offers a view of the garden. It also allows for guests to have some privacy, seeing as it is on a different floor from the kitchen, living room, and hosts' bedroom.
The location is great. Their place is across the street from the 7 train and a block or so away from the E train, one stop outside of Manhattan. They're also close to the MoMA PS1 and an awesome coffee shop called Sweet Leaf which serves the best coffee I've ever had.
Karl and Catherine are awesome hosts. They are a very sweet, easygoing, and engaging couple, and made me feel very at home. I very much enjoyed my stay in the "Brooklyn Part of Queens," and definitely intend to stay at Karl and Catherine's again in the future.
I couldn't say more about what a great spot this is and what sweet hearts Catherine and Karl are as hosts!!!!
The house is super cool! Filled with life! Artwork, antiques, including one of the coolest antique couches I have ever seen!
They are warm and helpful! There is a 24 hour diner directly across the street and plenty of other really neat things in the neighborhood!
The room has everything you need and more! Catherine and Karl leave healthy snacks and tea for you in the room and the bathroom is bigger than some NY BEDROOMS!
The hosts can give great recommendations but also leave guidebooks and maps in your room too!
The other awesome thing is you are practically in the train station! It's so NEW YORK! And you leave the front door and be on a trim in 30 seconds! The 7 is so fast to midtown!!!
I was there for work and the train and diner were life savers when in a rush leaving the house early and coming home late and starving!
BOOK THIS PLACE! You won't regret it!
Karl & Catherine are great. Communications were fast, easy, and they are the most gracious hosts. The room was clean, safe, and a good size, just as advertised. The subway is across the street with commutes into Manhattan taking only minutes. Also, if you are considering driving to NY, there is an abundance of free on-street parking in this neighborhood which I found to be a major bonus. Def recommend.
Karl + Catherine were very welcoming. The room had everything we needed and they were super responsive. The location is excellent; right across the street from the 7 train. We enjoyed our time here :)
LIC is such a well-connected location, and I love how many cool new restaurants are popping up in the neighborhood. We stayed for a week and I ate at LIC Market (just two blocks from this location) more than once! One of my favorite coffee shops in the city (Sweetleaf) is just down the street as well.
This Airbnb is located a historic district (I believe the brownstones there were built in the 1870s), so it's really the prettiest part of Long Island City in my opinion (I just really like old stuff).
LIC (and New York in general) is a busy, noisy place, but Karl and Catherine are lovely, and when we couldn't sleep because of the noise from the 7 train, they brought down a white noise machine, and after that, all was well again in dreamland.
On another night, a nor'easter blew one of the windows open, but thankfully, Karl and Catherine were upstairs and quick with the duck tape. No problems getting in touch with them at all, which is a big plus.
They left snacks and a tea/coffee setup, which was very convenient, and we also enjoyed very nice showers thanks to the consistent water pressure and temperature in the bathroom. The mattress was perfectly comfortable. I thought I'd use the kitchen upstairs, but we ended up being busy every night, so I didn't touch it... that's NYC life for you!
I hope I can book a stay with Karl and Catherine again when I come back to visit New York!
