General info and location:
This spacious and bright, private room is located in Long Island City - Queens, an area across the river from midtown Manhattan. The house is across the street from the 7 subway line, which takes you straight to Manhattan (8 minutes to Grand Central, 12 minutes to Times Square, 17 min to the Village). The E, M, and G subway lines are also one block away, giving just as speedy access to all parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn (5 min to Williamsburg, 30 min to Park Slope) and Queens.
We are close to the Queens MOMA PS1 museum, which also hosts outdoor dance parties on Saturdays in the summer. We are five minutes from a handful of good restaurants and bars in the LIC area. There is a 24-hour diner across the street where the food is decent, and uniquely New York!
The room is quite big and feels like a private studio with its own private bathroom, jacuzzi tub and semi-private entrance. It has recently been renovated and painted so everything is in mint condition. It is fully furnished with a queen size bed, and a desk for your computer with a comfortable chair to rest your laurels. We’ve also set up a little “breakfast nook” for you to make and enjoy an assortment of teas, or coffee, in the comfort of your room.
The room has beautiful 1880s wood floors. We've put a lot of love into making the space feel harmonious and lively, down to the subtle essential oils we diffuse around the house!
There are two windows facing the lush garden that add a sense of calm to your stay while you wake in the morning. In addition to the two windows in the bedroom, there is even a full size window in your private large bathroom! Please note that we have installed blinds in all windows and will be updating our room photos soon to reflect this. There is a small amount of noise from the subway station, which is nearby (but that also means your travel time to the city will be short!). An air conditioning unit is provided in the summer months for your comfort.
We provide clean bedding and towels for the guests, and there is free super speedy wireless Internet, maintained by on-site IT guys.
This is an historic townhouse from 1881 shared by 5 artists situated on a landmark NYC block. You will enjoy a private bathroom where you can soak your aches away in the giant jacuzzi bathtub after a long day of seeing the sights.
Catherine and Karl live on the two floors above your room, and are available for questions and recommendations. in addition to our comfortable living room, one floor up, you also have access to our shared kitchen, if you would like to cook meals for yourself.
Laundry, groceries and parking:
Laundry is right in the basement of our house and the closest grocery store is about a 5 minute walk. For those of you with cars, you can usually find free, long-term parking with no problem in the evenings within a two-block radius. Finding parking in the daytime is more challenging.
Little bonuses: Iron and ironing table, French press coffee maker, assorted teas and tea water boiler in the room. We can provide Yoga mats at no charge for you to practice during your stay (we only ask that you wash them after using them).
Interaction with Guests
We are normally available to introduce you to the space and help you get acclimated to the city. In addition to us, there are also 3 others who are permanent residents of the house whom you may run into occasionally.
If you are coming from another country, we can lend you an American cell phone into which you can put an American SIM card. We have great maps and local directories to make navigating the city easy. There is a hot-pink cheetah print hair dryer and most other amenities (not all hot pink cheetah print) available upon request.
Looking forward to having you stay with us!
This is a non-smoking home and a shoe-free home. We kindly request that you leave your shoes at the entrance.
We are fairly laid back in terms of noise during the day, however after 10pm and/or at the request of other housemates, we ask you keep the noise level to a minimum for the sake of the early risers in the house and on the block.
Access to the back yard is available by request.
Karl and his wife are amazing hosts! The apartment is perfectly located and the room is large and extremely clean. They even have organic body wash, hand soap and another necessary things you never carry when traveling. The house itself is very hip and I totally recommend it.
The room and neighborhood are the way they are described on the aribnb website. The room is very clean; we appreciated the fact of having a bathroom to ourselves (clean, nice hot water etc.). The location is top - given it is right across from the metro entrance.
True, one can hear the metro in the room, guess sensitive sleepers might find that an issue. We were too tired to be bothered.
Catherine welcomed us; very friendly and helpful and gave us some nice 'off the beaten track' suggestions. We only met at that occasion, because we spent our entire days visiting and walking around New York, but she responded immediately to text messages.
I had a very good stay in this room. It is fully furnished, clean and perfectly located. Catherine and Karl are so kind and friendly. I would like to recommend this room to everyone who visits New York.
Karl and Catherine have a beautiful place. They welcomed us with hugs even though we showed up later than planned on a Friday night and interrupted their dinner party. They even offered us pie! The jacuzzi bathtub was delightful. The train is literally next door, the city minutes away, and there are lots of restaurants within walking distance if you're looking for a "quiet Brooklyn" experience. There was ample parking (street, all weekend)- mega plus. I would definitely stay here again.
Simply great experience! Karl is a very nice host, apartment is clean and cozy, location is perfect - several stops from Manhattan, Williamsburg. Station with elevator is just a few steps from the building.
