Our mid-century modern house is conveniently located 5 minutes from downtown and walking distance from several bars, restaurants, and public transit. Enjoy our all-glass living room surrounded by 15 ft. tall bamboo and relax on our roof-top deck.
This is a lovely two-story guest house (1200 sqft) with a secure (locked) private entrance surrounded by an 8 ft privacy fence that is walking distance to all restaurants on Manor Rd., bus-stop, and the light-rail station on MLK blvd (only one stop before downtown stop). Cab rides downtown average 5-7 dollars. It is convenient to SXSW events, a few blocks from the UT football stadium, and it's on the way to Formula One since we are east of downtown. We live in the front part of the property (not fenced) in a house on the same property as the guest house--the property is very large at 9,000 sqft. The guest house is in the back with its own entrance and shaded parking space. We are a licensed (# 916167) short-term rental with the city of Austin.
Upstairs : There is one bedroom with a queen bed, balcony, two side-tables, LCD screen TV, I-pod alarm clcok, and a closet (with shelves and iron/ironing board). The bathroom is next to the bedroom--it has a large walk-in rain shower. There is also a very large balcony upstairs for lounging among the trees.
Downstairs : there is a large studio (NO DOOR) with a comfy full-size pull-out couch ( high-end foam mattress provided for extra comfort) that is basically a large second bedroom; a full kitchen; and large living area with two large comfortable couches for one or two people (if the full size bed in the studio is not an option for 2 people). PLEASE NOTE: This is technically a two bedroom, but the downstairs bedroom is more like a studio.
Amenities: Wi-fi, 2 LCD screen TVs, cable with HBO, I-pod alarm radio, central air/heat, full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, parking space in drive-way, private 8 ft. fence, towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap, coffee, and a wood-burning fire-place. Unless you need assistance or have questions (I am always available via phone if not home for questions), you will hardly notice we are there other than the occasional appearance of our friendly dogs (unless you do not like dogs, which means you probably shouldn't stay here).

Interaction with Guests
As much as needed. We are always available to answer questions or help with something that is needed, but we like to give guests their space unless they need us for any reason.
I love that our neighborhood is very diverse and you can access everything you need on foot other than a major grocery store (need a bike or bus for that). The majority of people moving in lately are professors and down-town professionals because the neighborhood has become very expensive lately. Many of the artists and families that lived here before the real estate boom are still in the area as well to keep it from being over-gentrified, but it is changing very fast. Just as we have expensive restaurants and many that are not; there's every style of house in our neighborhood as well: large modern homes, 50's style bungalows, high-end condos, and even a few almost-shacks. if you're used to neighborhoods where every house looks the same; this is not the neighborhood for you. Despite a few eye-sores here and there, the neighborhood is very safe and full of people jogging/cycling, walking dogs, and strolling kids.
The Rail Station is about a ten minute walk and the bus-stop is only two blocks away at the end of Maple Ave. The bus or train to downtown area is about 5-10 minutes. Cabs are 7-13 dollars downtown depending on where you are going.
- No smoking inside/no throwing cigarettes on the ground outside
- No Large parties (it's okay to have some friends/family over). Please inquire about larger parties as they are sometimes allowed with prior approval.
- Please recycle in the provided containers
- Have fun and enjoy your stay!!!
We loved the house and our hosts (including the dogs) and would highly recommend to anyone. The location is excellent, just on the east side from the UT campus and walk-able to many local eats and drinks.
Michelle's place is such a beautiful spot! It's clean and well decorated with lots of pretty natural light and little details that feel like the southwest. We very much enjoyed our short time there, will be back, and will highly recommend it to anyone visiting Austin!
My husband, Rocco(our dog) and I really enjoyed staying at this home. The rooftop and fireplace were great! Michelle and John were great hosts and so accommodating. Their dogs were fun to be around as well. We would highly recommend this to others looking for a place to stay in east Austin! THANK YOU, Michelle, John, and Airbnb.
House was very nice and comfortable inside. Michelle had fresh muffins waiting for us when we arrived. Michelle was also very flexible and kind enough to allow us to check out late since our flight left in the evening. Fun neighborhood with several cool nearby bars and a grocery store, but area is quite at night. We would stay here again! Great experience!
The reservation was canceled 76 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Awesome house with all the amenities you could want. Michelle was very helpful and answered any questions in a prompt manner. Great neighborhood with great restaurants, bars and coffee houses within walking distance.
This is a great little guest house in a very central neighborhood of East Austin. The place is very charming and private, with a cool mid-century feel.
There are many cool restaurants within just a few minutes walk which is welcome.
I moved a way a few times, but always found my way back to Austin - this city is hard to beat for food, weather, and fun. My husband and I both love to travel and prefer to stay in boutique hotels or guest houses when we do, so we decided to offer up our guest house for people traveling to Austin that want a similar experience. I work in the Mental Health field (used to work in the music industry) but have a love for design and architecture - I designed the outside and inside of the guest house myself. In addition to traveling, my husband and I love food and music--Austin is great for both!
