Quiet Studio Flat Near Beach

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Lo Uk Village, Pui O, Lantau Island, Hong Kong

Close to the airport, Disneyland, Tai O, the Big Buddha and one of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong with several restaurants and bars in walking distance, this place has everything - except lots of space. But you'll be outdoors exploring!

The Space

Do you want to get away from the screaming frenzy of Hong Kong, but still be near enough to access the city easily? Do you like beautiful scenery and quiet nights? Then come and stay in beautiful Pui O on Lantau Island!

The place is not big, but it has everything. WiFi, microwave, fridge, toaster, coffee maker, full dinner set for 4, beautiful bathroom. NEW ADDITIONS: Toaster oven and rice cooker!

Can sleep 3. You also get the use of your very own Nokia mobile with a Hong Kong number!

4 minutes' walk from Pui O Beach, 40 seconds from bus, taxi. Taxi to Tung Chung (metro) 15 minutes. Taxi to Mui Wo (ferry pier) 7 minutes. Bus to Tung Chung 25 minutes, to Mui Wo 10 minutes.

It is close to all the tourist attractions on Lantau: The Big Buddha, Tai O, about 30 minutes from Disneyland and of course the airport as well as the Convention Centre.

The house is in a quiet village with lots of beautiful hiking terrain. There are water buffaloes and you'll be woken by birdsong every morning. There are several restaurants in the area as well as two bars: The JK Club and Tap Tap Spanish tapas bar. Cheung Sha Beach, 25 minutes' walk away, is crawling with restaurants.

I speak the local language; in fact I'm a Cantonese teacher, so if you have any linguistic problems just text me on the phone provided and I'll see what I can do.

There is an ironing board and iron. I will wash your clothes and air dry them, 2 day service.

If you stay for only a weekend I'm afraid it will be HK$600 a night, but for weekly stays or longer, the price above stands.

Welcome to Pui O and a truly lovely house with a fun and culturally resourceful host.

P.S. The map is not right! It's in PUI O, up some steps from the South Lantau Road.

Interaction with Guests

I'm normally at work but if anyone wants to go to a local bar (four minutes' walk) I'm all for it!

Getting around

The place is 20 minutes from the airport, has lots of dining possibilities in walking distance and is only 40 minutes away from Central (by bus and ferry).

Other Things to Note

Sorry if I can't always leave a review for you - I normally don't meet the guests except fleetingly and have people to clean after your stay, so I don't see what it looks like.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We chose this place because of the proximity to a hiking race we were doing and wanted to be close to the early morning start and late evening finish. So we are not "typical holidaymakers". But it suited our purpose fine. The room is very small by western standards (large by Hong Kong standards!) but very functional. It is equipped with everything you need for an overnight stay or longer. Plenty of plug sockets (which I appreciated because I had three phones to charge up!). The wifi is functional but rather slow (but this is true of everywhere on Lantau). Cecilie was friendly (as much as you can be with bad flu!) and everything was well in order. Prompt emails with directions to the room (which is very hard to find, I would strongly recommend not arriving in the dark as we did!). If you get lost, ask someone because many of them know her or ring up and she can help as she did with us. We enjoyed the dog outside the room (a bonus, we thought, but possibly not if you don't like dogs). The sleeping arrangements are flexible - which was good because we found the sofa bed to be uncomfortable so instead chose the single bed and the mattress on the floor. It would be absolutely perfect for a single person. OK for a couple. I wouldn't recommend more than a couple. It's very close to the shops and bus stop and beach. For even more restaurants, I recommend taking the short bus ride into Mui Wo because there are some really good restaurants next to the ferry pier. I would certainly consider revisiting if I need something near Mui Wo again.

  • Cecilie was a great host, helpful with all of my questions before and during my stay. The flat is a bit small, but it was a fine size for a quick get-away from the city. The beach was such an added bonus, I made sure to visit it at least three times a day.

  • We really love staying at Cecilie's place! It wasn't difficult to find and very near the beach, park and all. Though we enjoyed the quietness and relaxing village, it was also pleasant to have very convenient bus network in the island, with buses just across the road going to Tai-O, Ngong Ping n Tung Chung!

  • If you want to like this place as much as we did, you should be someone who enjoys living in a quiet and civilized village with easy access to the beach and great hiking routes, and who finds fun in experiencing all sides of the Hong Kong transportation system, a necessary part to feel the pulse of the city. We came to HK from Beijing on our visa run and absolutely loved the city and our temporary residence in Lantau. Cecilie is a wonderful host in all respects, she provides maps, bus time tables, and a cell with HK sim, which is very convenient. The room is clean and has a big bathroom (with shower), all necessary facilities are there (there is a heater in case you are as (un)lucky as we were to be in HK during the record cold days). One thing to bear in mind is that if you don't want to take expensive taxi back home from down town (where all partying takes place), you should catch the last train at about midnight. Highly recommend the place in conclusion. Thank you, Cecilie, we hope to see you again!

  • Enjoybale stay - would stay there again. Clean and comfortable room and en suite. Cecilie is friendly and approachable, and eager for her guests to enjoy their stay. The HK mobile is a nice touch.

I stayed as a solo traveller, and it was therefore quite spacious. With three people, it would be a bit less so (you would probably want to fold the sofa bed away each morning) but a great value place to stay.

Easy walking access to beach and hillside/forest walks. A couple of convenience stores and decent Chinese restaurants a few hundred metres away.

Pui O is a pleasant place to stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the built-up areas of Hong Kong, yet easily commutable by metro/bus (total journey time to Kowloon approx. 60-75 mins, and I think only about 10 HK Dollars if you use an Octopus card; if you were to travel by metro and then taxi, it would save half an hour and cost an extra 70 HK Dollars). There is a direct shuttle bus between Pui O and the airport, journey time approx 30mins, cost 13 HK Dollars. It only runs 3 or 4 times per day, however, the airport is just the other side of Lantau, so a taxi ride would be fairly cheap.

Lantau also has the Giant Buddha, a popular tourist attraction, and the second highest peak in Hong Kong.

  • We had a great time at the beach and and hiking trails.
Pui O is nice and relaxing.Well, the "Wonderful Village House" was a little different than expected, it ´s more like a room with a view to walls, the bed is unfortunately too small for two people and the couchbed was not useable. It´s not really a place to stay over the day. (I hope the construction site next door is finished soon), but it´s okay for a starting point for longer walks around Lantau or hang around at the wonderful beach.

  • Cecilie was very generous to let my family (2 adults and 3 little children) stay in her room for 3 nights over the New Year. It was cosy and our host tried her best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Taking care of our laundry was a nice touch, as is the local phone number. If you're looking for a quiet, rural place to stay in HK with easy access to Central via ferry and 15 mins bus ride to Mei Wo (great Turkish restaurant) and only 10 mins walk from a delightful beach, then you can't go wrong with Cecilie's place. The only addition I would suggest the room needs is a shower curtain as the power shower inevitably results in a wet floor however careful you are...

  • The room Cecilie provided was pretty self-contained. The timetable and bus route info were really useful - I'm glad this was made available. This place is close to major transport hub on the island Mui Wo so it's easy to get around on the island. The room fits two fine and the ensuite bathroom is huge. There's a couple of shops and a restaurant down the road if you need to head out for a bite at night.

  • Compact, clean with all basic necessities one needs plus the bonus of gentle Lassi, the watchdog, to welcome you home with a wagging tail every day. Lovely little unspoilt village with friendly locals, green surrounds and beach close by. Easy to get to busy bustling city of HKG. Thank you, Cecilie, for wonderful stay and glad we had chance to catch up on the last day. Hope to be back soon.

  • I had an absolutely wonderful stay with Cecilie. I was very sad to leave! I was there for a month and the place has everything you need to settle in to a comfortable village/beach life. The beach is walking distance and it is very easy to get around the island on the buses that come right to the bottom of the road. The room is well appointed too and it is so quiet at night you feel like you're really in a secluded spot.
Cecilie is also a wonderful and warm host and makes you feel right at home. I'm going back for sure!
