400 year old Merchants house in the heart of Fes Medina. All original architectural & decorative features, but 21st century comforts. The 'Maktaba' is a large en-suit room built on the first floor of the Riad. Next door to the library. It is a duoble room but for an extra charge a single bed can be added. The room has stained 'Iragi' glass windows, and a 4 poster bed. There is reversible air conditioning, and in the bathroom a rain shower, mist free mirror & heated towel rail. The room can sleep 1 or 2 in a super king size bed. The roof terrace has fantastic far reaching views of the oldest part of the medina.
The Ruined Garden is attached (cafe & Restaurant) planted with fruit trees, flowers & herbs enclosed by romantic ruins. It is for your sole use until 12 mid day after which it opens to all. Breakfast can be served anywhere in the house or garden.

Interaction with Guests
I am around most days, I really like to meet you on arrival and help you 'find your feet' in the incredible, though often surprising city. Staff are around most days and there is always a guardian on the premises.
The Medina is hard to describe without using overused phrases and glib soundbites, I will though give it a go. The medina of Fez in which the house is located is an extraordinary agglomeration. If you understand the basic principle things start to make sense, the streets and alleys are many, and are as wide as they needed to be to allow 2 mules to pass, this meant the internal courtyard of many houses can be as large as possible. The private space of a house always being of more importance than a wide street, all of the show is hidden and on the inside. This contrast is one of the treats of Fez. The house is to the side of the main streets and is in a residential part of the medina.
The riad is furnished in such a way that you will feel you can really relax, there is a large lounge on the ground floor, about 10 linear metres of sofa and although the house is no smoking the roof terrace and the garden are easy to access. Due to the design of these Fez courtyard houses there is no television or radio. Though there is wifi everywhere. The kitchen and utility room can be used, but there is always a housekeeper at hand. You can book meals to be cooked in-house or treat the place as a self catered home. the wifi password for both courtyard and terrace is zelige13.
We had an absolute fab time in Fez. Robert was fantastic, very helpful with directions and great advice on places to visit. He made us feel very welcome. The riad is beautifully decorated and the Ruined Garden Restaurant has a magical feel, the vegetarian tagine is defitely a must!
Highly recommend it!
