We have a bedroom available with full size bed in a pristine Queen Ann Victorian. We are located in the silver view terrace district of San Francisco, it is within a little known, small, quiet and safe residential neighborhood.

The Space

The room accommodates up to two people. You will share the bathroom, living room, kitchen/dining room, and back porch with our family, my mother, a family friend, and myself.

Guest Access

Kitchen: microwave, stove, oven, fridge, pots/pans/things for cooking, dishes
Living room: TV with basic cable

Other bedrooms and upstairs are off limits.

Interaction with Guests

At the moment it is just Bettina, my mother, and any guests she might have staying at the house. Things can get really busy with work and other obligations during the week. Count on simple interactions in the mornings/evenings or weekends.

The Neighborhood

Personally, I enjoy the area for its sunny weather (the fog is often prevented by the hilly areas in between). To attest to the warmer weather you will find figs, plums, lemons and tomatoes growing in our back & front yards. If you know San Francisco you know about our many micro climates, if you do not yet know about it, you will learn quickly (we will teach you).

We are located conveniently near Bernal Heights where you can find many quaint restaurants/ cafes, book store, library, pet store, ice cream shops, as well as Good Life Grocery market. Our family favorite is the nearby ALEMANY FARMER'S MARKET the oldest farmers market in California. It is in driving, walking or biking distance.

Getting around

Public transportation is within a block radius; the 23, 24, and 44 (Muni) run from early in the morning to 12/1:00 AM. or the KT station 5 blocks walking distance.

Other Things to Note

My mom just discovered this easy and beautiful bike ride to downtown, Mission Bay, or other places in the city. She loves it and enjoys every part of the ride. It takes her 30 minutes from our house to Embarcadero @ Market.

If you have a car, the location is ideal. Within minutes, you will be on Highway 101 or 280 north or south. It takes 20 minutes by car to get downtown, and 20 minutes to the beach at Fort Funston.

The newly developing third street area is 10 minutes walking distance It is changing it's face by the minute and you will find the little known secrets of San Francisco. Truely worth discovering.

There is all day free street parking available in our neighborhood. Rare in San Francisco.

We do have two dogs that live in the house so our guests MUST be dog lover(s)! Because we do already have two dogs living in the house, we do not allow our guests with pets, just keeps things less complicated!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • It was my first experience with Airbnb and i'm 100% satisfied! I haven't met Ganesha, but her mom Bettina and her friend Jose were hosts that we couldn't ever dream of! They've helped us a lot with great advices from their prior experience and even gave us few rides throughout the beautiful city of San Francisco.

Neighborhood is not great if you like to walk, there is not much to see there. If you rent a car or enjoy public commuting then the place is great. The road to a highway is nearby, a bus can get you to the downtown, Golden Gate Park or Fisherman's Wharf in less than 50 minutes.

I would totally recomend these hosts to anyone!

  • My stay at Bettina was great! Comfortable bed and pillow! With plenty of closet space.! They provided plenty of privacy. I rarely used kitchen though but I was available if I needed it. Parking was great. If you're coming to town with a car PARKING will be no problem. (At least base on my 3 weeks stay there) Jose was very accommodating, Bettina was usually out but she was helpful too:) thank you both for the great hospitality! Their dog is WELL BEHAVED.

  • First off, they accepted the reservation with only a few hours' notice. We had to book 4 nights last minute and Ganesha and Bettina were responsive and friendly. They really care about their guests and have a system down for what guests have access to and how best to respect each others' privacy. When we arrived there were strawberries and chocolates waiting for us in the room, which was a nice welcome.

I only met Bettina in person, but Ganesha was the one i was communicating with most through Airbnb (I only saw Bettina the first night, and because of the differences in our schedules never ended up seeing each other). Bettina is Ganesha's mom, and they are both really nice. Ganesha is very responsive through the Airbnb messaging system and i got answers to questions fast.

The room itself is clean, located at the front of the house and is comfortable and private. There's a closet, nice bed, dresser, mirror and large window with great drapes (totally blocks out the sun if you want to sleep in). There's also a private living room for guests to use as well, and it's separated from the rest of the house with a door. It's generally very quiet, and you only hear the occasional shuffling in the nearby kitchen when people come home, but it was never distracting.

The owners have a dog, Tara, and she's really sweet. The door separating the room and the rest of the house makes it so if you don't like dogs, you can avoid interacting with her almost entirely (we loved her and thought she was extremely well-behaved and mild-mannered). She never barked, and only got excited if she hadn't seen anyone for a while. It was easy to calm her down, play a little, and move on with whatever it was you were doing.

Overall, this was a great first Airbnb experience and we felt safe and taken care of during our stay.

Quick note about the shower: it isn't too clear how the shower is supposed to work, but all you have to do is turn the left knob so it's pointing left and point the other two down and you'll get hot water. Took me a few tries to get it right. :)

  • Super easy. I came to SF on a whim no place to stay... and they took me in! Very nice people. The bed was comfortable and Batina was very accommodating. I would recommend having a car but not necessary. I would definitely stay here again.

  • I stayed in this room for 2 months after moving to San Francisco. I needed an affordable place to live while I found my own home. THe best thing about this Airbnb was definitely the price.

I'll start with the good: The room doesn't share any walls so I didn't encounter noise issues. I almost never had to wait for the bathroom because the family has their own bathroom upstairs. Bettina loves plants/flowers so there's almost always cut flowers around. The bus stops I needed were super close and it's easier to get to the nicer Bernal Heights area.

Now for the not so good: Roscoe is an old dog and the family works long hours. That means accidents happen often. I would never walk barefoot in the house because of the frequency of his accidents. The kitchen (floors and counters) are also rarely clean, and the dogs are prone to raiding the recycling bin. Tara is large and prone to jumping. She also has food aggression issues, which meant my dog had to stay in my room 95% of the time.

"A family friend" referenced in the description is a loose term. Sometimes that means José, a friendly contractor who stays in a spare room. Sometimes that means a visiting couple from Germany. You must be okay with random people showing up in the house because it happens often.

For the room, the dresser has been changed out to a much smaller, poor-quality dresser so don't count on that for storage (although the closet was a nice size). There also wasn't a flat sheet or blanket on the bed, just a fitted sheet and two comforters. Although they don't use the heater often, this room gets the hottest when they do.

Overall, I'd describe my stay as "you get what you pay for." The neighborhood is mildly sketchy and I usually felt like I was doing something wrong in the house because I'd be corrected verbally or with notes. Thus I never used the kitchen for more than microwaving or hang out in common areas very often. I just didn't feel particularly comfortable, like I was an inconvenience to be dealt with because it meant additional income.

Worth noting: Bettina (Ganesha's mom) is undoubtedly head of household and who you'll interact with the most. I wish this had been explained in the host profile because it was a different experience than what I'd expected.

If you're looking for a vacation retreat, this isn't the place for you. If you need a low-cost, acceptable place to stay for a bit, this might work for you.

  • I stayed in this room for three months during a summer internship in the bay area. The room is quite large, with a separate closet and drawers and a very comfy bed. You'll share the bath (which is nice and clean), but it's almost always free. Ganesha, Vishnu and Bettina were super nice, never had any problems. Thanks for the great summer!

  • A great airbnb experience. I stayed with Ganesha and her family for a month. I almost felt part of the family after that! The room is very comfortable with a splendid mattress. The bathroom is super clean and the shower is great, I had it basically for myself during that month. Stops of Bus lines 24 and 44 are close by, but it is a bit far away from SF's tourist attractions (if that's why you are here you might be more comfortable with a car). Bernal Heights (with some nice restaurant and shops) can be reached easily by public transport (15min.). For me as a post doc working at UCSF mission bay it was ideal, as it only takes 15min. to bike to the mission bay campus. Thanks Ganesha!

  • I enjoyed my stay with Ganesha and her family.
The peaceful environment allowed me to rest and focus on my work, and the best part of my stay was the happy interactions with Tarra and Rosco the family dogs.
I will certainly visit San Francisco again and Ganesha's is the place where I will stay.

  • I was looking for a room very urgently and Ganesha confirmed the same day even. Very nice house, very nice family, a perfect bed (real bed). Would recommand this place to anyone, I was so happy to be there. And the two dogs are funny and playful. Thank you so much Ganesha!

I'm a Graphic Designer, Photographer | and | Mom is a Physical Therapist
I am a 23 year old recent graduate of California College of the Arts with a BFA in graphic design. During the week I am freelancing in design, and adventuring in photography. On the weekends I like to go out with friends, usually around the Mission (when I am in San Francisco) because there's always so much going on there. At the moment I am living in Berlin, Germany with my brother. I am freelancing in design, and also photography every now and then. Other than graphic design, my other passion is photography. I love using my digital slr and film cameras but lately I've found myself using my iPhone camera a lot more because its always with me. I love traveling and have traveled practically all over Europe and the US, as well as a few places in Asia, although a good portion of it was while I was much younger so I'd like revisit a lot of those places, as well as explore all the places I have not yet seen. Germany is a frequent destination because my mother moved here from Germany, so we go there as often as we can to visit family and friends. So for any German speaking guests, we do speak German! Well my mom does fluently, and I sort of struggle to speak it although I understand it perfectly well. Well that's all I've got for now, but feel free to ask me any questions, and I look forward to meeting all future hosts/ guests. (:
