Go party outside and stay quite at home.
Just back from a wonderful month-long stay at Casa Tiburon. Two air conditioned guest houses, one with 2 beds and hot water, the other with one double bed and bathroom (no hot water). And then a third bedroom (with AC and bathroom) in the main house on the 2nd floor with its own balcony. The main gathering spot is the outdoor living room on the first floor. With fans and little electric mosquito repellent devices (on premises) there were very few bugs. Every few days a troupe of howler monkeys with babies camped out for the day in the trees right off this living room. Peacocks, chickens, iguanas, and lots of birds, too. Off the outdoor LR is a nice kitchen, well equipped, two sinks, big glass windows. Easy access down a short walk to town, groceries, restaurants, beaches, but you feel removed. Only Saturday night got a little noisy for early sleepers. Good wifi, downloaded movies for kids. A pool across the street at Paso Tiempo hotel when the kids wanted a break from the beach. Marco was quick to respond the one or two times we had questions, and his sister is next door, too. His chocolate is delicious!
Great and unique home with 2 bungalows (one master, one guest) and a main house which allows for great indoor/outdoor living in your own private 'compound'. Within minutes walking from everything in Tamarindo. Marco is a great host, very responsive before and during our stay. Definitely recommend.
Marco was wonderful. He has been in Costa Rica for over 25 years. If you get the chance spend some time with Marco and ask him about the history of Tamarindo. I arrived late at night and was met by Marco's sister Marina who lives next door. It was comforting during my stay to know if I needed anything that Marina was there to help. The house was Great. It backs up to several properties separated by bamboo that was frequently inhabited by local Holler monkeys. The house is located on the edge of town. It is a two minute walk to shops and eating. Be sure to visit our favorite restaurant, Wok and Roll. Say hi to Romain the owner.
The experience at Casa Tiburon was very positive. The property was accurately described in the listing. It was very comfortable and provided the Costa Rican vibe we were looking for including daily visits from howler monkeys. The place has a great indoor outdoor flow with a more than equipped kitchen. We felt very safe at the house and the proximity to the town was a bonus. A two block walk to the market and a short walk to several restaurants and bars was great. We did experience some bugs as described in the earlier reviews, but it's Costa Rica. It's expected and part of the experience! I will stay at Casa Tiburon again on my next pass through to Tamarindo.
Casa Tiburon was exactly what we were hoping for. The house is unique and gave us a true feeling of being in Costa Rica. We loved the outdoor living and dining area, but still had privacy in our own rooms. We cooked every day and the kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed. Marco was very attentive to anything we needed and easy to get in touch with the entire time we were there. Our daughter loved the house cat, Margo, and we all enjoyed that she came to greet us each day as we returned from our outings. The house is a couple blocks off the main strip in Tamarindo and we could easily walk everywhere we wanted to go in the city. We rented a car and had ample parking at the front gate of the house. The house is very well secured and we always felt comfortable there. Thanks Marco for being a great host.
We had a very nice stay at Casa Tiburon. It was a beautiful place and we felt very welcomed. We had no problems staying there and we would highly recommend this place to others. Also, it was a cool experience when the howler monkeys stayed outside the trees of the house to rest.
About the Host, Marco
I am a professional photographer.
Back in the early '90 I've been sent here in Costa Rica to cover photos reportage of this little known tropical country. Well, I felt immediately in love with the generosity of the nature, the simplicity of the people, the atmosphere of wildness and, of course, the Ocean!
So, it is now 22 years I am living here.
At the moment I'm involved in starting a cocoa plantation. Also experimenting chocolate making and love it.
Life can be sweet.
