The Best kept secret just outside of Sunriver! Lots of sunshine and views of the river. Peaceful, quiet, private and beautiful. Close to nature, hiking, biking, swimming, floating, golf and not far from restaurants, shopping, and Art Galleries.

The Space

Artist from the West is offering this cute, cozy and private two bedroom, 2 bath apartment that overlooks a beautiful meadow and the Deschutes river! Original artwork adds to the cozy and peaceful nature of this sanctuary. Private deck with barbecue grill, large table with umbrella and six cushioned chairs. Outdoor solar lighting, light the way up to this beautiful space.
The boat dock is just 100 steps out the backdoor to kayak, swim, motorboat, or fish. This land is at the edge of national forest with over 50 lakes within 50 miles.
Biking, hiking, golf, snowmobiling, cross country skiing right out the back door, and down hill skiing, and snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor just 16 miles away. Bend is a 20 minute drive. The high desert is only 30 miles east of here.
This home is just 2 miles outside of the Sunriver Resort where there is fine dinning, shopping, Art Galleries, the Nature Center and Observatory along with Horseback ridding, swimming, tennis, and a luxurious spa and miles of maintained Bike trails.
Things that come with this rental are:
Barbecue
TV (for netflicks, pandora, youtube)
Internet
laundry room
full kitchen
queen size beds
3 Cruiser Bikes
1 Mountain Bike
I Canoe (flat bottom very sturdy)
2 Kayaks
1 Raft
and always adding to the collection!

Guest Access

Guests will have access to entire property except the area by the sweat lodge unless you have made arrangements to schedule a ceremony. Enjoy the bikes, hiking, kayaks, canoe, rafts, fire circle and boat dock. There is also an air compressor and adapters for your use.

Interaction with Guests

I like to be present to greet you, I enjoy meeting my guests. I live on the far corner of the property and can be seen working in the garden and the yard. When I am around I am happy to help you in anyway I can. Sometimes I am not here because I like to travel like you :)
If I am gone, there is a lock box that is easy to find and you will receive the code and all the instructions for the property in an email and more helpful information will be on the kitchen table when you check in.

The Neighborhood

My neighborhood is quiet, beautiful, full of wildlife and peaceful! There aren't many people in my area, the ones that are here are helpful and friendly. There is hiking and biking right out the front door. Over 50 lakes in the area. Lava lands is just a few miles away. In Sunriver there is a really great Observatory and Nature Center and a place to go horseback riding. There are great Restaurants and bars and a Market just a couple miles away.

Getting around

I run my own shuttle service with a 6 passenger Nissan Quest mini van. Shuttle service runs to Bend, Mt. Bachelor, Sisters and the airport and more. Just send me a message for pricing.
There is lots of free parking on the property, behind a 6 ft privacy fence and gate. The back of the property is open to the river and meadow.

Other Things to Note

If you want natural beauty, peace, privacy and quiet solitude, but you also want to be close to activity, grocery stores and events this is the very best place for the price in the area.
There is a tame little black bunny named "Boo" that runs free around the yard. She will run right up to you. If you are bringing a dog, they need to be on a leash in the yard so the bunny is safe.

  • Recently enjoyed the therapeutic benefits of this riverside sanctuary. Despite neighbors below us & beside us, we enjoyed the silence of a mountain meadow morning, broken by the cries of red-wing blackbirds perching on the marsh grass below. The slow steady currents of the river beyond the marsh supported a leisurely pace to our central Oregon vacation. Lori was welcoming & supportive & working hard the entire time we loafed & touristed the vicinity. It was nice being near the amenities of Sun River without being part of it. It was also a lovely time of year to be there: not as hot as later summer, it even rained! Accessible to so many wonderful natural attractions & attractive enough to just sit & watch the Deschutes flow by on it's way to the Columbia & the sea beyond.

  • The River Song Sanctuary is a welcome retreat. My family and I enjoyed our stay and the art it's decorated with.

Thanks Lori for sharing your Sanctuary.

  • Quaint and cozy apartment with beautiful artwork inside and beautiful scenery outside. The deck overlooks the river and has a great peaceful view. We stayed in winter and it would be great place to stay in the summer. Very peaceful

  • We had a great experience at River Song Sanctuary. We had the bottom (main) portion of the house and it was perfect for our extended family getaway.
The views are gorgeous, the house is clean and nicely decorated (love the art work Lori) and so many things were included to make our stay enjoyable, like use of the kayaks, canoes and fishing equipment. We didn't use the bicycles, but should have. The scenery was great and would've made for a nice ride. Lori shared her garden with us so we had fresh carrots and herbs to cook with. The kitchen was well equipped and many condiments were available. I agree, if you're looking for quiet, make sure a large group isn't there when you are. We were "that" family (sorry!). Lori is a gracious host. I highly recommend staying here!

  • The area is lovely! Our stay was comfortable and peaceful. There is so much to enjoy here between the water crafts that Laurie offers to sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife.
If you want to enjoy all that the region has to offer, River Song Sanctuary is a wonderful base !

  • If you can't relax and enjoy the natural surrounding of Lori's River Song Sanctuary .......it's time to check the pulse. Lori has put together an excellent little retreat. What's not to like about the quite surrounds of having the Deschutes river right within eye sight......the sound of geese flying over throughout the day......and the void of human noise pollution. Lori's place is rustic, artistic, and quaint. She has gone out of her way to provide entertainment for the river (in the form of river rafts) and bicycles for some other mode of transportation. The River Song Sanctuary was everything I expected and more, and Lori is and excellent host. Lori's place sits away from the traffic of Sun River resort but is close enough to enjoy the trails and amenities of the the resort. I would highly recommend Lori's private Sanctuary!!

  • Lori has a great little place right on the river. The space is the half of the upper floor of a sprawling building on a large lot. The view from the deck overlooking the river is great. There is a BBQ out there and a nice table to eat at.

The inside of the place is cozy and functional. There are 3 beds, a futon, a short couch and a sleeping bad. We were able to fit 7 comfortably by doubling up in the 2 queen beds. Only one of the beds is in a private room, but that was fine with the group we had. There are two bathrooms with showers. The kitchen and fridge are a little small, but were plenty big for our purposes (can cook pizzas and small meals etc).

The dock is just a short walk down the road and has super easy access to the river. You can float to the Sunriver Marina in about 3-4 hours. The water equipment that Lori provides was more than perfect and she even has an air compressor to pump up any additional water toys.

We had a little confusion when we first got there but Lori picked up the phone right away and was able to straighten everything out for us.

We had a great time and all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. If you are looking for a nice place right on the river to unwind this is the place for you.

Dear Scott, Thanks for your feedback and your thoughts about my place here. It was fun to see all of you having fun and enjoying yourself. I appreciate the time it took you to write this. I am looking into a bigger fridge. Hope to host you here again.

  • The river song sanctuary is a small unit atop a house. It has a nice porch overlooking the river and pretty nice river access. The unit is on the 2nd floor, up some rickety steps and consists of two bedrooms (only one private, the other is open), two baths and a public area. As advertised the unit holds 8 people which we found to be "stretching it" There are two queen beds, one single bed, a futon in the living room and a mattress in the closet. There is not enough cutlery and plates for 8 people, and the kitchen table can't hold 8 (we had to eat in turns, kids first, adults later). If we were 8 adults we never would have fit in the unit. The kitchen is functional but very small and falling apart. The bathrooms are clean and decent. The linen, blankets and towels supplied are tattered and old, stained and seem like they've been washed hundreds of times. Our host was not very responsive, declining to give us more sheets to use as blankets (claiming it was a weird request), nor supplying us with additional toilet paper or kitchen paper towels. Moreover when we left she claimed we broke and stole stuff from the apartment, as well as made a mess of it which was insulting and simply untrue. We had a good time but not thanks to the "sanctuary"

    Response from Lori:

This review is not a fair one. This guest is unhappy because I am asking for money for all the damage he and his family did to my beautiful space. They broke my futon in half and it is under one year old. They broke a lamp, and other things. I have to hire a plumber to unclog the kitchen sink and a carpet cleaner.
The stairs are incredibly sturdy and wide going up to this space. They are far from rickety. This space is over 700 sq. ft. with a nice size deck outside with outdoor seating and table with umbrella and grill. The kitchen cooking area is small, but clean and functional, with all the pans, and baking pans that you should need. I do only have matching plates, bowls, etc...for six the other plates are there but don't match.
The kitchen table is a brand new oak table with two leafs that go with it to expand to be able to hold up to 8 people. There is also a bar that seats two more people.
The linens and sheets are brand new and there are no stains as they are just a few months old.The blankets are also only a few months old and are always clean. I have only been doing this for under one year, so I couldn't have washed anything hundreds of times.
I had given Lior and his family 6 rolls of toilet paper and 2 rolls of paper towels and they were asking for more after the first two days. I would have been happy to give them to them, but I was away for the day. It turned out that they didn't look under the sink to find more and when they did they found two more rolls and were fine. There is also a market just 2 miles away.
When they asked for more sheets, they hadn't even been there for five hours and I had left to go to the fireworks on the 4th an hour away. They called me at 9:30 at night and I was unable to accommodate them.
When these guests left, from all the noise they made and jumping around I was afraid of what my place would look like when I opened up the apartment door. It was worse than I could have imagined!!
Please read my other reviews to get a more honest review of what my Sanctuary really is here. There is one more poor review below and that is because she decided that my place was not close enough to the city shops she did stay here for 10 days, so it must not have been that bad, and she felt it was to remote and wanted a refund. When I didn't refund her money, because she had tied up my property for one month during the busiest time of the year she got upset and wrote things like this man that are not true. I have a strict refund policy to protect myself as this is my livelihood. I love working with airbnb and most of the people that have come here have been incredibly wonderful and have become new friends. For the most part I have loved every moment of my experience with this program!

  • Unfortunately, this property is not equipped for a long-term renter... There was no direct access as advertised on the Host's AIRBNB Website to a washer/dryer/dishwasher (the host is off-property for days at a time). We ended up staying for ten days without clean sheets. Beds were very, very soft and very, very old. Refridgerator was a compact "college cooler" which held a very minimal number of items. The futon in the living room was propped up on bricks and fell down a few times which I felt was a hazard. The barbeque grill on the patio was unclean and inhabited with wasp nests. Overall, I did not find this property to be a good value for the money and misrepresented on the AIRBNB Website.

    Response from Lori:

Lora booked my sanctuary here along the river for a month. She decided that it was too remote for her and wanted to cancel right away. I am only two miles from Sunriver and 16 miles from Bend.
To access the washer and dryer at the time she stayed here you had to come in the front door of my place and take the first right. We have now built a door from the outside so that you don't have to come through the house to access it, even though that was never a problem before. I don't advertise that I have a dishwasher. We do have a full kitchen with a nice big sink and lots of counter space. The refrigerator is a brand new mid size unit and has been adequate for a family of four that stayed here for six months and there was no complaints. It is certainly not a "college cooler".
Yes, the futon had been broken by the previous guests and it was a brand new futon with an upgraded mattress. Unfortunately there was no time to fix it before Lora got here the next day. Lora was told about the futon and It is fixed now. The beds are not old and have pillow top covers on each of them as well as down comforters and brand new sheets and towels and pillows.
I looked in the grill before she got here and never saw the wasps nest, but I could have missed that as I didn't light the grill.
Sorry Lora beautiful places on the river that aren't for everyone.

  • Our weekend stay at River Song was lovely! Not only were our accommodations unique, they were peaceful and beautiful. Even though we didn't see Lori much, she was very helpful and even provided a coffee grinder for us when we needed it! We enjoyed visiting the Lava River Caves which we might not have noticed had we not stay at River Song and it was a perfect place to relax after an amazing concert in the amphitheater. All in all, a very restful, comfortable place to "recharge". Thanks Lori!
