The space

We receive you in the ancient Royal Factory of Sheets of the XVII th century.

The Logis Colbert in Bize-Minervois was formerly a Royal factory producing sheets for the Kings soldiers. It was built in the XVIIe century and closed after the French Revolution.

Active until 1789, the factory did not resist to the sale of the national possessions in 1791. It is acquired in 1836 by the back grandfather of the current owner. The Jean-Jacques family have been living there ever since that time.

Some other parts of this big and historic building were restored by his father as holiday apartments and include beautiful gardens on the side of the river Cesse with swimming pool, tennis and private parking. A variety of shops and 3 restaurants can be found in the village as well as 2 supermarkets less than 5 kms away..

Today, reconverted with happiness to shelters of holidays, it raises itself proudly at the edge of the Cesse and participates in the embellishment of the village.

In the enclosed garden, the pool (12,5 x 5,5 m), floodlit at night, is available from april 15th to the end of october, with sunlounge, sunbeds, barbecue etc. Meals may be taken in the garden where tables and chairs are provided. The games room, and tennis court are also at your disposal.

The relaxing calm of the extensive terrassed flower gardens overlooking the river with lawns down to the water's edge. In the nearby hills, walking, moutain bike circuits abound, horse riding, paragliding. Walk on the Canal du Midi (just 8 Km from Bize Minervois), Mediterranean Sea (35 Km, Narbonne-Plage, Gruissan), Medieval Village of Minerve (15 Km), Cité de Carcassonne (50 Km), Narbonne and its Cathedral (20 Km), Zoological African Park of Sigean (30 Km), etc.

On site we also make available laundry facilities (with ironing), housekeepers, childminders, shaded parking (open until 22h), bike garage. Just 100 metres from the Logis Colbert you'll find shops, a café, restaurants and a medical centre.

We arrived at very short notice but the housekeeper, Delia, took everything in her stride. She gave us a guided tour and left us by the pool to relax! The apartment was superbly 'old world charm', and we all took loads of photos. If you want up to the minute boutique, this is not the place for you! This 'set in aspic' residence offers an authentic experience of faded, photogenic grandeur, with hugely high ceilings, and the most fabulous swimming pool which wd had to ourselves for most of the time, which was deep enough for our boys to do some diving practice. We could have stayed forever... Bize-minervois is also the most charmingly preserved village.

The building and town are very nice though we missed the feeling of a home. The rooms we got were large and very spacious, but the way it's furnished shows a lack of interest and homeliness. There is exactly one restaurant in the village worthwhile and anything else that might be culturally interesting is miles away.

A most wonderful place to stay that I will certainly try to go back to. High ceiling bedrooms, a kitchen if you don't want to eat out, a table tennis room, amazing pool, outside seating and all nestled in a sweet little village. We had incredibly hot weather and all the locals were swimming in the river, you really felt like you had arrived in the real France. We also ate one night at La Grange which I highly recommend.

Jean-Jacques made us very welcome, and explained about the local restaurants, shops etc. The property is set back from the river, with lovely walks along the banks, and the town has several bars and restaurants, ideal if you don't want to spend a lot of time cooking. Can recommend the Café du Midi. The apartment is set in a very old building and has lots of character. The beds were comfortable, and the shower was good. The shower was over a bath, not a problem for us but would be for anyone with reduced mobility. The kitchen was small but had everything we needed including a dishwasher which was a bonus :) The location of Bize-Minervois was perfect for us to explore the medieval cities of Carcassonne and Beziers, and less than an hours drive from the lovely beache at St Pierre sur Mer.

Jean-Jacques' mother was very friendly & welcoming. She also spoke fluent English so we weren't struggling to communicate using our limited French! She recommended a great restaurant in the village where we had a superb meal. The accommodations were spacious & everything you could want was provided. The kids loved the pool. I would definitely recommend Le Logos Colbert!

Le Logis Colbert is the perfect little hideaway. The apartment was clean and tidy and the beds very comfortable. The pool was a real sun trap and a very pleasant way to cool down after a days sightseeing. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Jean Jacques, but his mother and assistant Deliah were very friendly and helpful. The village itself has everything you need, a friendly village shop that sells excellent wine, a selection of nice restaurants (our favourite was the Cafe de Midi). We also got the opportunity to mix with the locals, watching a petanque competition on the Monday night.A thoroughly French experience! We would definitely recommend Le Logis Colbert and hope to return one day.
