This apartment is fantastic: warm, dry, very central (10-15 min to San Marco) and very easy to use. I had a wonderful experience with Marco, who communicated very clearly and effectively. I *highly* recommend it to anyone! It is the perfect way to experience Venice like a 'native'.
I stayed at Marco's apartment for four weeks. The apartment is adequately furnished and equipped for visits both short and long. It is located in a quieter part of town and close to almost anywhere one would want to go in Venice. Marco met me upon my arrival and made sure all the paperwork was done efficiently and my questions answered. He was responsive when I needed to contact him during my stay as well. All in all, a good experience!
My 3-week stay in Marco Da Preda’s apartment was very positive. First, the apartment is in the region of Castello, an area conveniently located away from the tourist hubs of Venice. The number of visitors to the city, particularly during summer, can be overwhelming, so it was welcoming to be in a quite area. The apartment is near two vaporetto stops, and two grocery stores (all less than 5 minutes away). The neighborhood has several economical restaurants, wine shops and coffee shops, all nearby. It was advantageous to have access to a kitchen since most meals were cooked at home. Surprisingly for the month of July, and despite not having air conditioning, the temperature in the apartment was pleasant. Marco was attentive, responsive, and made my stay in Venice what I had hoped. I would definitely stay in the apartment again should I return to Venice, and I would also highly recommend it to my friends. Thanks again for a wonderful stay Marco! Silvia Acosta
I feel a responsibility to give an honest review. First, let me say that Marco was cheerful and hospitable always.
However, on the morning of June 18th (5 days after I arrived) I discovered a rat in the apartment. It crawled into the space it had come from (a door in the wall leading to a valve) and I shut it in there. I notified Marco and suggested he call a pest service. He said there were not any. Marco came that evening and opened the door, found the hole the rat had come through, and plugged it with paper and plastic. At first I was relived. But after a couple days I was awakened in the night. I could hear the rat in the walls and above my bed in the space between my apartment and the one upstairs. I was very uncomfortable. When I told Marco this on June 24th he said that his friend would come by (Marco had gone on vacation) and bring over a Sonar to drive the rat out. His friend did come by on the 27th. But the rat was trapped by the paper and plastic that blocked it's tunnel, I could hear it in there trying to dig out. I was not about to open the door. Finally, Marco offered to give me 150E per night to stay my last 2 nights in a hotel, which I accepted. This was very gracious of him. However, I have since checked and there are pest services listed on (website hidden), I'm not sure why he didn't know about them or look for one.
Other than that the apartment was fine. It's a good location. There is a nearby supermarket, a good restaurant, and a Vaporetto stop. It was passably clean but a bit of a bachelor pad.
This was a pretty positive experience. The flat is just as pictured--one big room with a kitchenette and bathroom. There is no shower, but there is a little bathtub; and there are no laundry machines but there is a good big drying rack for hanging laundry after you wash it in the tub.
It was very clean, and there were no issues with bugs of any kind--and I hear Venice can have a lot of mosquitos.
One warning: you should make sure you arrive at the airport before 7 pm. We didn't get in until 11;30, and that meant Marco was unable to meet us until the next day. That meant we had to stay in a hotel in Mestre, the suburban area on the mainland, and take the bus in. This added $120 US to our trip.
Marco was very kind and warm, and the cost was very reasonable. There is a grocery store nearby, and loads of bars/restaurants etc.
It was really nice to be away from the (incredibly touristy) centre of the city, in a residential neighborhood near a school. It was very quiet, but only a 15 minute walk from Ponte Rialto, which is in the middle of the action.
It was not very hot while we were there, but even on the hottest days it was cool in the apartment.
