Safest, wealthiest, prettiest, oldest, most convenient and historic neighborhood in Brooklyn! Historic Landmark building is only 5 minutes from Downtown Manhattan via subway! You will love my apartment and neighborhood as much as I do :).
Private bedroom is large and sunny, but the dining area, kitchen (average), and bathroom (small) are shared with tenant (myself) who has been living in NYC/Brooklyn for 20 years. I'm an excellent tour guide, so you have yourself a FREE concierge thrown in :).
My apartment comfortably fits 2 guests in addition to myself, the tenant.
My place is very charming, quaint, cozy, naturelike and has lots of character - along with my Lhasa-Poo Nilla. So, if you're looking for something less sterile, plain, sparse and modern, definitely stay here. The building is dated from 1900, and includes original detailed flooring and massively high ceilings. It also has a gorgeous view of the historical gothic cathedral St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church, known for having America's first ever stained glass windows.
**Free breakfast, unlimited tea, and local magazines (Time Out NY, NY Mag, etc.)/newspapers (amNY, Metro, Village Voice, etc.) provided. Fresh linens, towels, and toiletries provided.**
Bathroom, dining area and kitchen are (website hidden) and Computer are off limits.
Interaction with Guests
When I'm working a lot, I'm not able to interact too much other than at check in, check out, or after work. I work a lot from home as well.
I will be present at the listing during your stay, but I am out often at work, meetings and events.
My dog, Nilla, however, will interact with you as often as she possibly can! ;)
Enjoy spectacular views of the NYC skyline from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade - only a 2 minute walk from the apartment. Just below the Promenade is the newly developed Brooklyn Bridge Park with lots of free and fun activities like concerts, movies, yoga and pilates classes, book readings, stargazing through telescopes, beer garden, wine bar, pool, art installations, etc.
This apartment is RIGHT in the heart of historical Brooklyn Heights - historical landmark Montague St! Norman Mailer, Truman Capote, Arthur Miller and Bob Dylan all lived here at one point, and now you can experience it too. Enjoy it's bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, conveniences, AND take a magical walk across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan! Jay Z's Barclay Center is a subway or bus ride away, so buy tickets to your favorite music concerts before or during your booking!
BREAKING NEWS!: Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign Headquarters will be located in Brooklyn Heights - 2 blocks from my apartment! You may likely spot her dining at Montague Street during your stay. :)
Bob Dylan's "Tangled Up in Blue" Lyrics:
I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air
(Tangled Up In Blue / Blood On The Tracks / 1975)
VERY close to most subway lines - R (literally downstairs), 4/5 (1 block away), 2/3 (1 block away), F (5 min walk), A/C (5 min walk), G (8 min walk).
Parking is not included with my listing, but there are parking garages available (pricey) and outdoors spots (free and cheap if you can find them!).
Directions from JFK Airport:
Air Train --> A Train --> Jay Street Borough Hall Subway Station. Walk to Brooklyn Heights from Willoughby Street, cross Adams Street, walk through Borough Hall Park till you see Montague Street. My listing is between Clinton and Henry Streets.
Directions from LaGuardia:

Furthermore Sara (and Nilla!) Are very welcoming and friendly. Sara is very busy but took the time to discuss and try to adapt to possible. In short, a perfect holiday!
Amazing location, just a few blocks from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade with a breathtaking view of Manhattan. It's a historic district with lots of nice little shops and cafés. Sara provides a guide with her top recommendations in the area. She is an excellent host and goes out of her way to accommodate her guests. Super clean apartment with everything you need on a trip to NYC, where you'll spend your time exploring the city anyway: A comfortable bed, sheets, towels, toiletries, everything perfectly clean. Sara is a very kind person. Communication was easy and smooth, she replies to mails and texts very quickly. Oh, and she has the cutest little dog ever. I wish I've had more time to chat with Sara and to explore the fascinating neighborhood. Well, next time!

Restaurants nearby to suit all tastes, all major subway lines around the corner. A very good first airbnb experience. Thank you.
The reservation was canceled 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
+ Great host, accommodating, beautiful neighborhood, friendly dog
+ Clean house, fairly safe neighborhood and good security
- A bit loud at night if you are a light sleeper. Earplugs provided by Sara helped a lot - almost nullified the issue
- communication error
Great stay with Sara despite the sour taste on the last day morning before checkout. Granted, this was my first airbnb experience, so there was bound to be a room of (communication) error, but I must address this.
Firstly, the reservation said 12:30pm checkout. But when I contacted her a few days before the stay, she nearly demanded 10:00 am checkout due to her wedding plans. There was no sign of negotiation, but I did not mind at all, so I agreed.
Here's where it fell apart: to me, 10am checkout means I am free to stay and use the house until 10am. That's how hotels work and is the general rule of thumb. HOWEVER, that was not the case. Due to her wedding plans, she had to use the restroom since 9am and I had no choice but to leave the house without shower or any chance of using the restroom.
Sara said she had to leave the house at 10AM to catch the train to wedding and that's more important than me trying to get a shower in the morning before I check out. She assumed that I didn't need to shower since I had showered the night before. Ridiculous.
What if I had a business meeting that day? or a date? Is showering in the morning too much to ask? Luckily, my friend's place was five minutes away, so I decided to take care of it there.
Yes, it could be a communication error, but regardless, I was the one who was kicked out in the morning and had to take care of my business elsewhere, when I fully paid to use this service.
The check out time was always 10am coordinated in advance as I do ALL check ins and check outs. I did not ask guest to leave prior to 10am. Guest WANTED to leave early to shower and "do his hair" at his friend's apartment. I honestly have never met a male guest who has needed to spend hours on end in the bathroom like this at night AND in the am. I was accommodating, until he was implying his hair ritual took more precedence than my wedding that I was catching a train to attend, all of which he was informed of in advance. This guest did not understand that the bathroom was SHARED. Other guests coordinate bathroom/shower times with me and are considerate. No one was kicked out. I offered to get out of the bathroom after finishing in 15 minutes, but guest was extremely inflexible. Any man that needs over an hour to get ready like this day AND night is just too high maintenance for Airbnb. Guest should stay in a hotel instead where he would not have to share amenities. Would not recommend or rebook this guest.
Unfortunately, my experience with Sara was very disappointing. As I was on my way to her place, I couldn't find the address online so I called her just to confirm. She sounded very annoyed on the phone like she didn't want to help me. When I finally got to the apartment and met her, I let that go. Throughout my stay though, I felt quite unsafe. During orientation, Sara kept reminding me to always lock the door (which, of course, is right) because the building has been broken into a few times. Also, on the first night, there was an issue with one of the tenants so police were going in and out of the building. On another day, there were two men just lingering by the lobby staircase and staring at me.
Finally, the issue with the locks caused such a big problem. I admittedly had a hard time using the keys but eventually got used to it. On my 3rd night, I couldn't get in the apartment. This woke up Sara. Once she opened the door, she was so mad that she was telling me to 'figure out what to do about this.' I was so surprised with her reaction because it was only the first time I had a problem. She even said, 'Don't use the bathroom anymore so I could get some sleep.' Imagine, I couldn't even brush my teeth and wash my face! I understood that she needed sleep but I found her very, very rude. As a host, she has the responsibility to take care of her guests. After all, that's what she signed up for. I didn't want to spend my last few nights in New York at her place (I had two nights left with her) so I decided to move out. There was too much negative energy going on. I absolutely didn't get my money's value but at that point, doing it for money wasn't worth it.
Also, I didn't like her place so much. The bathroom is so, so tiny and her windows were open so I could hear everything going on outside. I didn't sleep so well those nights because of that. Her apartment is also quite dark in terms of lighting. Overall, the experience was so bad. I felt like I wasn't treated right. Everyone makes mistakes but they also deserve care especially when they are in another city. This trip was very traumatizing. I was expecting so much after all the positive reviews. I hope Sara improves or at least could show consistency with her hosting duties.
Guest checked out two days early on their own accord and requested a refund despite my strict refund policy. Guest was unable to use keys despite several attempts to show them, mark the keys, etc. I offered a solution of coming in at a decent hour at night (11pm) or to learn how to use keys, but guest decided to check out without my knowledge and held keys for almost a day. Didn't even return them directly to me and had her fiance return them later at night after she checked out in the am and informed me via text. I had to open the door for this guest at early morning hours of 2/3am. After booking was confirmed, she tried to book another guest in the room other than herself - against Airbnb policies. After check in and check out times were confirmed, guest expected to be able to check in and check out whenever she pleased. Guest seemed very nice, but did not understand how Airbnb worked and handled checkout inappropriately. Overall, not a positive guest experience, and I would not recommend this guest.
English Translation: Sara's apartment is SUPER compared to what we needed (going to a wedding in Brooklyn Hights) we could walk to everything we needed within 5 min. But for those who do not need Brooklyn Hights, we highly recommend this location - DUMBO ferry is under 10 away from Sara's apartment and then 4 minutes to Wall st. The street is SO cozy !!! Sara's apartment is as described, small but cozy, she has a cute little dog (very quiet) and Sara have all the answers about Brooklyn + NYC. The location was SUPER for us. We were "out" all the time and when we had questions Sara was very helpful.
I work from home, and I'm studying holistic health/integrative nutrition. My background is in music business. My roommate is my toy poodle mix Nilla, and she's the best roommate I've ever had. I've been living in NYC for 16+ years, so I am the best tour guide you'll ever have. :)
