Spent four very enjoyable days at Peter's cottage. Delightful garden setting with lovely views. Excellent sleeping comfort and a very helpful snd friendly host!
We were welcomed by Peter and Barbara upon our arrival. The view was great and the nearby beaches were great. The cottage is rustic without a stove or full size fridge but we found it to be romantic. The bed does need to be replaced and the sheets were musty. The open air was fun...like sleeping in a treehouse but if you are after luxury this likely isn't for you. The hosts were very nice and their recommendations were great for beaches and restaurants.
The experience we had with Peter and Barbara is why we love Airbnb. Booking was easy and we communicated multiple times before we arrived on the Big Island.
Peter and Barbara were wonderful hosts. They helped guide us to their property via text messages and were there to welcome us when we arrived. They gave us a quick tour of the cottage and provided a book full of activities and local spots for the area. The cottage sits on a larger property that Peter owns where there is the main house and a few other cottages, which was nice because you could also say 'aloha' to the hosts or another friendly guest. Despite the communal feel, the cottage itself felt very private and peaceful. The cottage is open air so we enjoyed falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of nature.
The highlight of our stay was a kayak trip we planned with Peter and Barbara when we secured the cottage. They took us to Kealawekekua Bay in the early morning before the rush of commercial tours. We got to see the dolphins and snorkel around the historical park, and because we were early we had the whole bay to ourselves.
I cannot recommend this place enough! Peter is a wonderful host- very welcoming, quick to respond to questions, and full of information and awesome suggestions for any adventure you may be looking to have during your stay. I highly recommend doing a kayak/snorkel trip to Captain Cook Monument with him- that was a highlight of our trip.
The cottage was perfect- clean, bright, and had everything you could need. I knew it looked like a good location from the pics but just wait till you get there- pics don't do it justice. You can't beat the views, the breezes, the sounds of nature and the seclusion of this place.
This was the best Airbnb that we have stayed at to date. It couldn't be in a better location, minutes away from the best snorkelling on the big island -- follow Peter and Barbara's recommended spots to check out. Situated halfway down a windy road, with sweeping views of south kona, the temperature is perfect -- out of the heat but never cold. The cottage is ballin -- sliding Japanese screen door, salvaged port hole windows, stained glass, etc. You can sightsee while you shower, and barbecue on the balcony while you watch the sunset.
We enjoyed our stay here immensely and would recommend it to anyone. When we come back to the big island, we're staying here again. Mahalo Peter and Barbara!
Peter was an amazing host. Very easy going and even easier to talk to. The cottage was perfect for my wife and I and the grounds we immaculate. Our stay was the best stay I've had to date with airbnb. The best part of the trip is when I asked Peter where to go for a kayak/snorkeling trip and he offered to take us on a private tour. It was the best snorkeling experience my wife and I have ever had. You must take this tour. Thanks Peter, we will be back.

About the Host, Peter And Barbara
Peter and Barbara have mixed histories on the Big Island. Peter, a 20 year resident and recently retired, is enjoying all the water sports available within a few minutes of his home, especially snorkeling and stand up paddling. Barbara is newer to Hawaii and commutes from the main land to join Peter with his adventures as often as possible. Both are passionate about the South Kona area and give back to the community that has given them so much by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Friends of Manini Beach. Peter is an avid gardener and when not on the water can be found planting, transplanting and trimming in his exotic Hawaiian garden. Barbara, when not following Peter on some bay or reef excursion, is busy identifying and learning the habits of the local birds that share the accommodations on their beautiful parcel of land. Both find time daily to sit quietly and watch incredible sunsets on Kealekakua Bay from the lanai of their recently renovated historic Hawaiian home.
