this was our first stop of 4 during a 9-day trip around the island, and it was definitely the favorite! there's just something so special about peter and barbara's place. it's perfectly situated on a hill close to some of the best snorkeling and beaches on the island, as well as some really charming and not too touristy places to grab a bite. every afternoon it would rain a bit and lull us into the deepest nap before clearing up for a beautiful sunset view from the back deck. okay, i feel like i'm starting to write a romance novel so i'll stop now. but seriously, STAY HERE!! oh, and even though there's no air conditioning, the place always felt cool and comfortable. this is coming from a 7 1/2-month pregnant woman who gets hot pretty easily. just do it!!

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage! The property is amazing, set on a hillside with lush flora and fruit plants (we ate many fresh bananas!). The deck has an unforgettable view of the ocean and the space was very comfortable and relaxing. They thought of all the details, and we loved having beach chairs to use! Eugene was an excellent host, perfect mix of friendly and professional. He pointed out beaches to us which was very helpful. We also used the binder left by Peter and Barbara to find groceries, restaurants and beaches and all of their recommendations were spot on.

Thanks Peter! We really enjoyed our stay at the Kealakekua Cottages. Eugene was a wonderful host, always near enough to share about the property and the fruits found, including how to open a coconut, and far enough away that we felt comfortable in our privacy! The cottage was wonderfully stocked with everything we could have needed, and the views took our breath away with every glance out the windows. We loved the property and had such a fantastic time exploring and discovering all it's hidden beauties! Thank you again for having such a wonderful location to spend our time at on the island. We found ourselves happy just hanging on the property as we did exploring the island! Greg and Breezy

We had an amazing stay! The location is away from the touristy area and a little bit cooler as well. Staying at this cottage is like "glamping" - you're surrounded by nature but have access to a kitchen and a huge bathroom. The view from the cottage and the lanai is spectacular and the best part is waking up to the sounds of birds. We felt very relaxed and rejuvenated from our stay!

Peter And Barbara User ProfilePeter And Barbara is a superhost.

Peter and Barbara have mixed histories on the Big Island. Peter, a 20 year resident and recently retired, is enjoying all the water sports available within a few minutes of his home, especially snorkeling and stand up paddling. Barbara is newer to Hawaii and commutes from the main land to join Peter with his adventures as often as possible. Both are passionate about the South Kona area and give back to the community that has given them so much by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Friends of Manini Beach. Peter is an avid gardener and when not on the water can be found planting, transplanting and trimming in his exotic Hawaiian garden. Barbara, when not following Peter on some bay or reef excursion, is busy identifying and learning the habits of the local birds that share the accommodations on their beautiful parcel of land. Both find time daily to sit quietly and watch incredible sunsets on Kealekakua Bay from the lanai of their recently renovated historic Hawaiian home.
