The cottage is set in a stunning, beautifully kept garden with sunset ocean views from every space. It is well equipped for cooking, and Peter kept us stocked with delicious fruit grown right in his garden. Peter was a wealth of information about the area. He gave us our privacy but was always available when we needed anything. The cottage is in a perfect location for accessing at least 3 incredible snorkelling beaches, and it was nice to get up the hill in the evening for the lovely breezes that keep the cottage feeling so comfortable. This cottage is a great value. We would come back again for sure! Bev and Peter Krieger
Peter was an excellent host, giving helpful travel recommendations and delivering us some delicious fresh fruit during our visit. The cottage has amazing views and a lovely lanai for watching the sunset and enjoying meals on. The space is cozy with the bed, kitchenette and TV/chair all in one room. Makes a good base for exploring Kona and all areas south. Fairly quiet area, much quieter than Kona, but the cottage is perched just above the road so you do here some road noise. Spacious bathroom with a separate entrance from the main room. Beautiful flowers and fruit trees all around. The landscaping is just beautiful, very natural and lush but well kept. Just a 5 minute drive from 2 local beaches. Would be perfect for single travelers or couples looking to be out exploring during the day and have a great place to come back to at night.
This place is amazing ! Even though we arrived around midnight , Peter was there to greet us .... the directions are great so it was easy to find . Very cozy cottage , with everything you need for a comfortable stay . The view is outstanding , you'll be tempted to spend the day on the lanai , just relaxing with a cold one ! The open air walls give one the feeling of camping on the mountainside , a taste of the real Hawai'i .... lots of great eating places nearby , and a quick drive into the 'city' ..... so close to great snorkelling , it's ridiculous !!
thanks again Peter and Barbara , for sharing your space !

The cottage is perfect and surrounded by beautiful gardens with an amazing view!. A lovely retreat completely screened in with all the amenities of home. Large bathroom and very comfy bed. Peter is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the West side.
We had a great stay at this cottage. Its location is impeccable, with gorgeous views from every window. It was exactly what we were looking for at the end of a 3 week camping and backpacking trip on the Big Island: a place to regroup and relax. I loved waking up early, feeling the cool breeze coming in the window, and drinking a cup of coffee on the lanai. Lots of geckos, birds, and beautiful landscaping. I'd definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family!
Perfect getaway or jump off place for west side of island. Delightful open air cottage with dining lanai and elegant bathroom. Kitchen scaled down but definitely adequate.
A bonus to the amazing view and tropical design of the cottage was our interaction with Peter. (Barbara wasn't there during our visit.) He immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable to ask when we needed something. Lots of info on local places to visit. His care for his homestead shows in his lovely landscaping.
Conveniently close to snorkeling beaches, points of interest, and the highway but has a definite feeling of being away from it all. We look forward to staying in Peter’s cottages on our next trip and have already recommended Peter to our friends who travel.
This was simply an excellent place to stay for many reasons; it was a truly authentic Hawaii experience. The cottage was in the middle of a beautiful, lush garden with an amazing view of the bay. The place was very cozy, open-air, Eco-friendly, and well equipped with everything we needed with regards to cooking (grill available) and for a comfortable stay. It was clean, tastefully decorated, and had local Hawaiian guidebooks that we ended up using.
Peter was very reliable and helpful when first trying to find the place in the dark and also with coordinating times. He was an excellent host all around; he shared some delicious fruit from his garden with us and helped us out a lot when we rented a kayak- we got to see dolphins swimming in the bay and he helped us out with the timing and right location to go :)
This place is VERY convenient to everything that is worth seeing on the Kona side. It's close to the "Place of Refuge," excellent snorkeling spots, and there are million coffee and mac-nut farms nearby.
I would definitely recommend this place to friends to stay. Such a nice time here!

Peter and Barbara have mixed histories on the Big Island. Peter, a 20 year resident and recently retired, is enjoying all the water sports available within a few minutes of his home, especially snorkeling and stand up paddling. Barbara is newer to Hawaii and commutes from the main land to join Peter with his adventures as often as possible. Both are passionate about the South Kona area and give back to the community that has given them so much by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Friends of Manini Beach. Peter is an avid gardener and when not on the water can be found planting, transplanting and trimming in his exotic Hawaiian garden. Barbara, when not following Peter on some bay or reef excursion, is busy identifying and learning the habits of the local birds that share the accommodations on their beautiful parcel of land. Both find time daily to sit quietly and watch incredible sunsets on Kealekakua Bay from the lanai of their recently renovated historic Hawaiian home.
