Spend an unforgettable evening aboard a real life luxury sailboat
Location, Location, Location: A 2-3 minute walk to the beach! Great views of all the boats in the marina and fresh sea air all the time! Channel Islands Marina famous Marina District is all around you with a lot of great restaurants art dealers, specialty clothing stores and great eateries. You can rent bikes and stroll along the beach. Parking is located at the top of the ramp adjacent to the water and you will have access to a permit to use for one car.
Landlubbers Beware -this is not a Disneyland prop:
The boat is on the water and getting on and off of it and going up and down the companion way stairs that lead to the main cabin can be challenging and is certainly not designed to be handicap accessible. Please only apply if you are in fit health ready for a sailors life. Having said that the boat is large and can comfortably accomodate people up to 6ft 3 (1.96m). It is also safely tied to the dock so motion sickness is rarely an issue for most guests in fact many don't even noticed they are actually on the water at all.
I just ask that you treat the boat and environment as the magical, beautiful place that it is. You'll get to learn some sailor's terminology such as calling the kitchen the "Galley" and the bathroom the "Head" and hear fish swimming in the water at dusk. Sometimes a sea lion might swim by and there are a lot of exciting sea birds about not just seagulls mind you, but Pelicans, Osprey, Black Crowned and Great Blue Herons to name a few.
As an added bonus the shelves are lined with lots of nautical books to read, from pirate tales and stories of families sailing around the world to famous sailing recipes and basic how to books on boats. Also I leave out some nautical charts of the local marina and southern California so you can plot your next course!
For an unforgettable experience I suggest curling up in the evening around the table in the main salon and read some sea stories under the dim light with the sounds and feeling of being on a sailboat with the water all about you.
Please Note The yacht is two bedroom, there is one queen size bed in each bedroom and each can accommodate 2 people. In addition there are 3 couches in the main salon that are long enough to sleep on so they can be used to accommodate 2 to 3 more people. They are especially great for kids as there is special netting on two of them that can be setup to make a fort of sorts which keeps you from rolling off onto the floor -Sailors call these "Lee Cloths" and if you search online for images of them you'll see what I'm talking about.
Also there are full service bathrooms that you will have key access to up at the front of the dock next to where you can park The bathroom on board is great for brushing teeth, washing hands and primping but we ask that you please use the toilets dockside if you need to go to the bathroom.
I checked the family friendly box, since in some ways since kids think it is the coolest thing in the world to sleep and be on a sailboat. It is a new experience for sure. However naturally being on the water is a very dangerous place to have children so please use your best discretion.
Alas, you are not allowed to sail the boat. It is to remain at the dock, if you want to go around the marina by water there are several sailboat and kayak rental companies. And please do not touch any buttons or move levers unless it says it is OK to do so in the visitors manual that you will find aboard when you arrive.

An overall wonderful experience. I rented the boat for a night as a surprise birthday present for my significant other and it was perfect. Hendrik was very helpful by allowing for a later check-in time than listed and by being in contact with written materials that helped us with anything we needed on the property during our stay. I would do it again.
Stayed on Hendrik's sailboat last week and had an incredible time. The boat is immaculate and the marina is quiet. The people I did see were all incredibly nice and welcoming. I'd never stayed on a boat before, so was curious how it'd play out - but Hendrik had everything laid out and it was incredibly easy. We were relaxing on the deck watching birds and other sea creatures within minutes. Hendrik also went the extra mile and stocked the boat with a few Valentine's Day necessities for a minuscule fee. Plan to stay again soon if I don't buy a boat first -- that inspired. A restaurant close by called Moqueca serves great Brazilian food and the Rudder is the quintessential dive bar.
Was on a short trip to LA, and decided to stay on a yacht for a night. We arrived much later than expected due to the weather and traffic, lucky enough Hendrik has everything ready and sorted out for us.
He patiently checked us in, let us know how to deal with the boat, and also gave us a lot of flexibility when on board.
It was a great experience, the down side was that we can only stay for one night. Love to come back again in the summer.
Hendrik was very accommodating and we had a lovely New Year's Eve on his beautiful yacht.
Hendrik was great! He entertained me and was patient even though I arrived at the yacht late at night around midnight. The yacht was rather cosy and homey but it was a little dim, even with the hatches open. The neighborhood was also perfect. I had a good experience overall.
My friends and I loved staying on the boat. Oxnard is super-cute and it was a nice overnight getaway from LA. It was a unique experience and the accommodations were really comfortable. We went out for dinner down the road and then spend the evening playing cards in the main area. It was quiet and relaxing and just steps from the beach. The only thing that i thought would be annoying was the fact that the rest rooms are not on the boat, however they are extremely close and offer quite a bit of privacy. The host was great. Even though we never met Hendrick, he walked us through everything and it was very easy and clear. What a neat little place! We'll definitely come back.
We loved our stay on Hendrick's boat! I'll start out by telling you we had a flood in our home the night before we were leaving to drive down to Oxnard. This caused us to leave 4-5 hours later than we planned, arriving at the harbor around midnight. Hendrick was very gracious with us and our situation and helped is get in the harbor even that late. Anyway, the stay on the boat was exactly what we needed to escape from the restoration machines back home. It is an escape. We brought an SUP and rented another one and a kayak (walking distance from the dock) and enjoyed paddling around in the beautiful weather. There are several bars and restaurants also walking (or paddling) distance from the boat. All the ones we visited were fun! The water in the harbor is very clean and you are likely to see sea lions playing around the boat. The boat is spacious... We cooked a nice breakfast on board and the fridge had plenty of room to stock food and wine. ;) Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
Sleeping aboard a boat has a magical appeal. The teak walls have such charm and the local area is really cute. Although it was cold outside, the boat stayed warm and cozy. The only indication that it was cold outside, was when we woke up and walked on the floors. Cozy socks and a cup of coffee made this stay heavenly. Then Hendrik for offering your boat as a true escape from everyday life.
What a great adventure for us and one of the best alternatives to a hotel! We liked our one-night
-stay in the clean yacht of Hendrik in the very nice marina!
The friday evening in the Whales Thail nearby was very nice with yummy food, drinks (email hidden) band! Midnight and early morning company is underwritten by sealions and costs a little sleep maybe. Thank you!
