Description

The Space

Location, Location, Location: Great views of all the boats in the marina and fresh sea air all the time! Channel Islands Marina Marina District is all around you with a lot of great restaurants art dealers, specialty clothing stores and great eateries. You can rent bikes and stroll along the beach. Parking is located at the top of the ramp adjacent to the water and you will have access for one car.

Landlubbers Beware -this is not a Disneyland prop:
The boat is on the water and getting on and off of it and going up and down the companion way stairs that lead to the main cabin can be challenging and is certainly not designed to be handicap accessible. Please only apply if you are in fit health ready for a sailors life. Having said that the boat is large and can comfortably accommodate people up to 6ft 3 (1.96m). It is also safely tied to the dock so motion sickness is rarely an issue for most guests in fact many don't even noticed they are actually on the water at all.

I just ask that you treat the boat and environment as the magical, beautiful place that it is. You'll get to learn some sailor's terminology such as calling the kitchen the "Galley" and the bathroom the "Head" and hear fish swimming in the water at dusk. Sometimes a sea lion might swim by and there are a lot of exciting sea birds about not just seagulls mind you, but Pelicans, Osprey, Black Crowned and Great Blue Herons that roam the docks day and night to name a few.

As an added bonus the shelves are lined with lots of nautical books to read, from pirate tales and stories of families sailing around the world to famous sailing recipes and basic how to books on boats. Also I leave out some nautical charts of the local marina and southern California so you can plot your next course!

For an unforgettable experience I suggest curling up in the evening around the table in the main salon and read some sea stories under the dim light with the sounds and feeling of being on a sailboat with the water all about you.

Please Note The yacht is two bedroom, there is one queen size bed in each bedroom and each can accommodate 2 people. In addition there are 3 couches in the main salon that are long enough to sleep on so they can be used to accommodate 2 to 3 more people. They are especially great for kids as there is special netting on two of them that can be setup to make a fort of sorts which keeps you from rolling off onto the floor -Sailors call these "Lee Cloths" and if you search online for images of them you'll see what I'm talking about.
Also there are full service bathrooms that you will have key access to up at the front of the dock south of where you can park The bathroom on board is great for brushing teeth, washing hands and primping but we ask that you please use the toilets dockside if you need to go to the bathroom.

I checked the family friendly box, since in some ways since kids think it is the coolest thing in the world to sleep and be on a sailboat. It is a new experience for sure. However naturally being on the water is a very dangerous place to have children so please use your best discretion.

Alas, you are not allowed to sail the boat. It is to remain at the dock, if you want to go around the marina by water there are several sailboat and kayak rental companies. And please do not touch any buttons or move levers unless it says it is OK to do so in the visitors manual that you will find aboard when you arrive.

Full service mens and womens separate bathrooms dockside, pay per use washers and dryers dockside as well.

Since you get the whole place to yourself you may likely never see me unless in the unlikely event that I can't help you with a problem via phone / text message then I am happy to come over and if there is something that requires me to come fix so that you can enjoy your stay.

House Rules

You'll get to learn some of the idiosyncrasies of life aboard a true ocean going sailboat! It is magical, but there are some differences and things to keep in mind when compared to your normal house on dry land.

For example If you want to take a Hollywood Star's long hot shower you'll want to use the large shower room at the front of the dock [to the right at the top of the gangplank (ramp)] as they have a seemingly endless supply of hot water and the boat has very little. They are only accessible via locked door that only boaters in the marina have access to. (key is provided)

The marine toilet aboard is small, difficult to operate, smell bad, pump seawater, flush poorly and flow normally directly into the ocean. Since you are in the harbor and not 3 miles from shore please do not use it. Please take the pleasant stroll up to the bathrooms dockside, you'll be glad you did.

The floors are a rich varnished teak and as such only boat shoes (sperry boat mocs), white soled flip flops or no shoes can be worn on decks -sneakers, and high heels and the like must stay on land. Also No Smoking and No Pets.

The Marina itself is peaceful and serene at night making it easy to get a good night's sleep. It is expected that you do not make a lot of noise up on deck after 10pm but you can carry on down below and watch a movie or play a game in the main salon.

The visitors manual you will find when you get aboard and contained in it is a wealth of information including everything from how to operate the stove and oven to menu's of local take out restaurants.
