Spend an unforgettable evening aboard a real life luxury sailboat with a location right on the water and 3 minute walk to Hollywood Beach.

The Space

Location, Location, Location: A 2-3 minute walk to the beach! Great views of all the boats in the marina and fresh sea air all the time! Channel Islands Marina famous Marina District is all around you with a lot of great restaurants art dealers, specialty clothing stores and great eateries. You can rent bikes and stroll along the beach. Parking is located at the top of the ramp adjacent to the water and you will have access to a permit to use for one car.

Landlubbers Beware -this is not a Disneyland prop:
The boat is on the water and getting on and off of it and going up and down the companion way stairs that lead to the main cabin can be challenging and is certainly not designed to be handicap accessible. Please only apply if you are in fit health ready for a sailors life. Having said that the boat is large and can comfortably accommodate people up to 6ft 3 (1.96m). It is also safely tied to the dock so motion sickness is rarely an issue for most guests in fact many don't even noticed they are actually on the water at all.

I just ask that you treat the boat and environment as the magical, beautiful place that it is. You'll get to learn some sailor's terminology such as calling the kitchen the "Galley" and the bathroom the "Head" and hear fish swimming in the water at dusk. Sometimes a sea lion might swim by and there are a lot of exciting sea birds about not just seagulls mind you, but Pelicans, Osprey, Black Crowned and Great Blue Herons that roam the docks day and night to name a few.

As an added bonus the shelves are lined with lots of nautical books to read, from pirate tales and stories of families sailing around the world to famous sailing recipes and basic how to books on boats. Also I leave out some nautical charts of the local marina and southern California so you can plot your next course!

For an unforgettable experience I suggest curling up in the evening around the table in the main salon and read some sea stories under the dim light with the sounds and feeling of being on a sailboat with the water all about you.

Please Note The yacht is two bedroom, there is one queen size bed in each bedroom and each can accommodate 2 people. In addition there are 3 couches in the main salon that are long enough to sleep on so they can be used to accommodate 2 to 3 more people. They are especially great for kids as there is special netting on two of them that can be setup to make a fort of sorts which keeps you from rolling off onto the floor -Sailors call these "Lee Cloths" and if you search online for images of them you'll see what I'm talking about.
Also there are full service bathrooms that you will have key access to up at the front of the dock next to where you can park The bathroom on board is great for brushing teeth, washing hands and primping but we ask that you please use the toilets dockside if you need to go to the bathroom.

I checked the family friendly box, since in some ways since kids think it is the coolest thing in the world to sleep and be on a sailboat. It is a new experience for sure. However naturally being on the water is a very dangerous place to have children so please use your best discretion.

Alas, you are not allowed to sail the boat. It is to remain at the dock, if you want to go around the marina by water there are several sailboat and kayak rental companies. And please do not touch any buttons or move levers unless it says it is OK to do so in the visitors manual that you will find aboard when you arrive.

Guest Access

Full service mens and womens separate bathrooms dockside, pay per use washers and dryers dockside as well.

Interaction with Guests

Since you get the whole place to yourself you may likely never see me unless in the unlikely event that I can't help you with a problem via phone / text message then I am happy to come over and if there is something that requires me to come fix so that you can enjoy your stay.

  • It was an awesome stay on Hendrik's boat! He was very easy to get in touch with and it was very peaceful in the harbor. Beds were comfy, perfect place for a different lil getaway

  • We loved the boat! It was a very fun pit stop on our road trip down to San Diego. My 7 year old daughter thought it was sooooo cool and my husband who loves boats enjoyed our stroll through the docks after diner. We walked to the restaurant for clam chowder, burgers and a beer and the food was great. It's not bistro but it's perfect for a hungry family. The staff was especially sweet. On our stroll back to the boat it was cool to check out the huge sea lions barking at each other in the dark. They were laying right on the docks next to boats. Very cool experience. I'm a vintage trailer enthusiast so I especially loved the vintage looking wood cabin. It was clean and cozy. Beds were comfy. Bathrooms just a stones throw away and very clean.
    Thanks for accommodating us Hendrik!

  • Overall a very good experience. The boat is very clean and spacious, and as soon as you open the hatches it fills with fresh air in a hurry. The only drawback is that the bathroom is non-operational; but the public restrooms were clean and not too far away.

  • This was a great experience! I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the marina. The host did a great job preparing the literature to inform you of the house rules. The bonus was the super comfortable and warm bed. Would stay here again in a heart beat.

  • Very nice stay. Clean, comfortable, and a great break from the ordinary. Exactly as described with no surprises. Hendrik was good about checking with us and making sure we had no problems. As described, you do need to head dockside to the bathrooms (maybe 100 yards total). As long as you are okay with that you should have a good time.

  • The sailing yacht is an awesome place to stay! This was an incredible experience that was one of my husband's favorites. The pictures say it all. If you've ever wanted to sleep on a boat, this is it! We were impressed that it even had a radio and tv. It was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. We found a terrific Brazilian Cuisine Restaurant just down the road to eat supper. We didn't get to meet Hendrik, but he was very accessible by phone. The restrooms and showers at the Club were very nice to use. It was so fun to awaken to the sounds of the sea lions in the harbor! Thanks for sharing this unique place with us during our week of adventures in California!

  • Great boat, excellent location. Good clean amenities on shore. Fully recommended.

  • My family and I were so excited to spend the night on this sailing yacht as we imagined ourselves sitting on top of the deck and toasting the sunset.

Unfortunately, there would be no enjoying the top deck for us because it was covered in dirt. A lot of dirt. I mean the top deck fantasy was kind of the whole point for us. If I wanted to sit around inside a tiny space with my family we would have all stayed in my studio apartment.

Other reviews didn't mention the dirty deck, so it may have been an isolated incident, but it was certainly a disappointment to my family and I.

On a positive note, a family of seals made a home two docks down and stayed all night. They were soo cute and it was definitely the highlight of our stay.

    Response from Hendrik:

Very sorry that the outside deck was dirty for Hazel's stay.. Due to the perfect storm of Santa Ana Winds blowing dust from the desert, ash from some forest fires and my own fault for not having inspected the decks lately.. they were dirty no doubt bout it. They have since been cleaned and hopefully will be on a more regular interval (thought there are water restrictions now due to the severe drought) I'm glad that the rest of Hazel's stay went off without problems.

  • The boat was clean, spacious and complete. The rooms are big enough for a whole family to stay there. The sofas in the living room are also very comfortable and spacey. I strongly recommend this boat for any ocasion: either a family trip, couple escape, or friends reunion, this is the right spot
