Interaction with Guests
We enjoy the people we meet through Air bnb, and are fully available as a resource for local things to do, places to go, and conversation. We are also sensitive that some guests prefer privacy, and we respect that as well. We like to get a feel for what our guests want, be available to them, and provide a comfortablem personal experience for each person who stays with us.
We love that we live in a quiet peaceful 5 acres in the woods, and yet also in the midst of a cul de sac street with great neighbors. A walk down our lane leads to wonderful walking/running/biking roads with lovely Amish farms, schools, and shops and rural lifestyles. A great way to get a asense of how our many plain neighbors live, work and play.
One public bus runs up Route 340 from Lancaster City - our hours is about two miles from the nearest bus stop. Biking and walking are great, and of course there are many scenic roads to drive. lWe are located 50 mites from the Harrisburg Airport, and 1.5 hours fro the Philadelphia airport,
Other Things to Note
We do have a large German Shepherd with a dreadfully loud bark, who is actually a sweetheart once he meets you. He does not have access to your suite, as do none of our three great cats - Quentin, Cassie, and Sherlock.
Smoking is outside on the deck, please.
Betsy and Thomas' lovely home is located on a quiet dead end road, a short drive from Amish country. Betsy was out of town during our stay, but Thomas was very welcoming and accommodating. He gave us a brief tour of the home and our suite and then left us to unpack. In the morning, Thomas had breakfast set out and chatted with us for a few minutes before we went out on the deck to eat. We found the suite to be clean and cozy, Thomas welcoming, and everything as described online. Overall, we'd recommend staying here. Although we only stayed one night, the size of the suite would have been perfect for an extended stay!
The round house and its hostess, Betsy, are a welcome respite while exploring the surrounding Amish countryside. The very spacious in-law suite as very private but Betsy was very available for conversation and advice on where to eat or local attractions. The hot tub in the evening under the trees & stars was perfect after hiking and biking. We would definitely stay again when we visit the area.
Triple magic: a modern woodsy hideaway above the verdant and pastoral Amish country valley hosted by a very welcoming and engaging family. The suite was most accommodating and set apart from the rest of the house. The hosts were generous with their time and we appreciated their local knowledge, apprising us of area attractions and the fascinating and contrasting cultures co-resident in this beautiful region.
Betsy was a wonderful host. She was super quick with communication and flexible with our later-than-planned arrival. The space itself was spacious and comfortable. It's semi-private so we had a whole wing of their home to ourselves. We had access to the deck and hot tub with complete privacy. If you are an animal lover, the family dog and cat are completely lovable. We wish we stayed longer! We hope to stay again! Highly recommended!
We really enjoyed our stay with Betsy and Thomas who were charming hosts. The accommodation was great in a lovely setting and we enjoyed the breakfasts. Communication was excellent both before and during our stay. It was good to be in the country but not far from the tourist attractions. We would thoroughly recommend a stay with Betsy and Thomas and their lovely dog!!
We had a wonderful stay! Betsy and Thomas were very warm and hospitable. The pictures we had seen don't do this place enough justice. The house, the room and the surroundings are quite beautiful! Breakfast was delicious as well. Their house seems to be "in the woods" but it's actually conveniently located and only a short drive from Lancaster and other attractions. Highly recommend it!
We felt really welcome through Betsy's emails, the lovely card on the door when we arrived and the instructions and hints on the area. The family couldn't be in, which we quite understood, but the suite was perfect and even better than we were hoping for - loads of space and comfort. We actually wanted something quite private, so it was fine that the family was out at work late, but we did have a quick chat late each evening and found them really interesting. They left a delicious breakfast each morning and we could have used the hot tub, but we were out all the time. The area was beautiful - we chose it as I've always been fascinated by the Amish and love crafts - and it surpassed all my expectations! Thank you for a lovely stay.
About the Host, Betsy
My husband Thomas and I live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where we have 2 children, Sarah, 14 and Steven, 20. I work as the Executive Director of a consulting and education organization that focuses on supporting people with disabilities, while Thomas is a professor at Millersville University in the Department of Education.
We live in a "round house in the woods", love to travel, garden, entertain and host friends, and also love our animals: Lucas, our huge, lazy German Shepherd, our two bengal cats, and our horse, SkyJammer, who lives at a nearby farm.
