The Space

The Portland Wine Bar (email hidden), winery tasting room and wine bottle shop that showcases unique, small ferments from Oregon and Washington State wine regions.

We are located in the heart of downtown Portland, Oregon, right next to Pioneer Courthouse Square at 526 Yamhill Street. We carry small production, limited quantity, local wines you will not find in a chain grocery store.

We skillfully pair these artisan wines with local cheeses, gourmet chocolates, cupcakes and even cookies! Please visit our Events calendar for the latest happenings in the tasting room.

We feature our house winery labels, Bodhichitta Winery and Island Mana Wines. Bodhichitta was founded in Salem, Oregon, in 2009, by owner/winemaker, Mark Proden.

The Island Mana line was born out of his time in Hawai'i on the Island of Kaua'i. Both labels are locally made in small batches, usually less than 200 cases, with Bodhichitta showcasing local, Oregon grape and dry fruit wines, while the Island Mana label consists of dry, tropical fruit wines, some of which are blended with Oregon Pinot gris from the Willamette Valley.

The space is decorated in island cottage plantation style, complete with wood plank floors, long board counter at the front window, stenciling, wainscoting and vibrant, yet soothing colors.

We have two large, smart flat screen TVs with blueray players with Netflix, Pandora or other internet ready programs. Dishwasher, sink, flatware, dishes and bathroom are available for your use. The main floor is 670 sq ft.

The mezzanine (300 sq ft) can host a more private affair with farmhouse table, benches and chairs (seats 8). The entire space can accommodate a maximum of 30 people. The displayed rate is for a maximum of 3 hours. We can discuss details beyond that if required.

With the rental of the entire space, we close the doors to other customers and allow you to enjoy the entire space in private. With the mezzanine only rental, we would continue to entertain customers on the main floor only.

In both cases we offer our wines described above for table bottle service, tastings, flights and wines by the glass with a member of our staff to take care of you and your guests.

Guest Access

Entire space for displayed rate for 3 hours. Mezzanine only available at discounted rate of $125 for 3 hours. Additional hours available if (email hidden) for entire space and $75/hr for mezzanine.

Interaction with Guests

The space is yours if no wine service is needed. A staff member will be present to pour the wines if wine service is desired.

The Neighborhood

We are centrally located in downtown Portland at 526 Yamhill Street, between 5th and 6th Avenue, just off of Pioneer Courthouse Square and next to Ben and Jerry's. Luxury hotels like the Nines, the Benson, the Paramount, etc. are a block or two away. Great restaurants with local and in most cases, organic food, are a quick walk or MAX ride away.

There's always something going on at the Square, whether it is summer movies on the outdoor big screen, farmer's markets, live music or special events.

It is an ideal location for exploring the city and a central meeting place.

Getting around

Public transportation is right outside our door with the MAX and buses on the transit mall. Garage or street parking is available a block away.

  • Mark was the most gracious host, and his black lab, Pinot, is a gem :-). The accommodations were A+++ with the most gorgeous views. One highlight was the wood-fired hot tub located on the property. Mark was very generous with his time by sharing with me and my husband good places to hike and venues nearby to listen to live music. Thanks Mark!

  • Mark was a great host, and so was his dog Pinot! He even offered us a yummy glass of wine. Very friendly host. We showed up a bit late and he was very accommodating. Very beautiful property.

  • Mark is a great host and I very much enjoyed my stay. The place is a little hard to find at first, but well worth the effort. His room has most everything, and the fact there's no Internet is a blessing. Great place to read and rest up from the day's hikes. Perfect base to visit Mount Adams and Indian Heaven, as well as any place else on the Washington side of the Gorge. Mark is very friendly and knows a lot about the area; he even provided me with copies of the latest guidebooks.

  • At the end of a winding gravel drive I found a peaceful, pretty little spot and a gentleman of a host. Mark generously shares what he finds beautiful about life in the Gorge and Dog Pinot is a stellar hound with impeccable manners. Whether hiking or lounging about, all that is required is to relax and soak it in. If I plan on visiting the area again I will definitely see if there is availability!

  • Mark was great. Beautiful place. Overall excellent. Follow his directions closely - don't trust Apple maps.

  • We had a wonderful stay at the Columbia Gorge Retreat. There is a feeling of solitude and relaxation while still having an easy drive to White Salmon. The house really is spectacular! Mark was a wonderful host offering us some of his garden harvest, wine, etc. It was a perfect jumping off point for enjoying the Columbia River Gorge

  • Mark is a gracious host and a good cook! If you're fortunate, you will find him cooking. The home is in a very natural, peaceful setting. Perfect for a retreat. The night sky is awesome to behold from the porch. I hope you enjoy it too!

  • Nice and clean dormitory-style apartment for a short stay, in the South part of downtown, in a building mostly occupied by Portland State University students. A streetcar [critical for exploring downtown] stop just by the door. No problems with the owner, who was nice and responsive. Somewhat noisy (the final streetcar stop is just below, and the 405/6 highway traffic is loud) but we had no problem with sleep. The apartment is not large, and the living hall is small, but otherwise excellent for exploring Portland and vicinity.

  • This place is gift. Plain and simple.

  • Mark's apartment was great, the location was perfect, and check-in and check-out were smooth. I highly recommend Mark.

About
Hi there! Welcome to the Colombia Gorge! I hope you have a great time here. It is a wonderfully beautiful and gorgeous (pun intended) scenic area. There's so much to do, from the fabulous restaurants, to the live music, festivals, skiiing, rafting, biking, kayaking, hiking and parks. Such great wine and beer as well! The former, wine, brought me to Oregon as a tourist, and soon I found myself attending wine school in Salem, just south of Portland 45 mintues. I began my winery while attending enology/viticulture classes and have been making wine since 2006. I spent 11 years in the Air Force as a pilot, program manager and astroanutical engineer. My two master's degrees are in Environmental Studies and International Relations. I enjoy the outdoors immensely--hiking, biking, running, kayaking, etc. I am more grounded and at peace in a place of natural beauty. Thankfully Oregon and Hawaii have plenty of those places! An engineering job opened up on the island of Kauai as I was finishing school and I took this as a sign to begin making tropical wines. I lived in Hawaii for almost three years and the second label, Island Mana Wines, was born during that time. Mana means energy or spirit in Hawaiian. The tasting room in downtown Portland features both my Oregon and Hawaiian wines, decorated in a relaxing island cottage plantation style. The tasting room has a great vibe and energy. I hope you can stop by and Taste the Spirit of Aloha with us during your stay. I have hosted over 200 people at 3 different properties with 89 positive reviews. While my location may change with time, the quality of hosting will continue to be welcoming and inviting. I look forward to meeting you and hope you enjoy your stay in the Columbia Gorge. Cheers, Mark
