Staten Island... the often forgotten borough of New York City. Just a 25 minute Ferry Ride to and from the City of New York! The Staten Island Ferry runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 Days a year (including all holidays) and is Free to get back and forth to NYC. You will also get to see unbelievable views of the New York City Skyline and Statue of Liberty while you are crossing over. Did I mention that the Ferry is Free??? Yes it is one of the best deals you will find in NYC!! Once you cross over to lower Manhattan you will find the Metro that will take you to anywhere you want in the City.
The place is located in the area known as Saint George and is about an 8 minute Metro Bus ride to the Ferry or if you are feeling up to it you could walk. The bus lets you off right on the corner. There are several buses that travel this route so the wait is minimal. I suggest you check out (website hidden) to find approx travel times and distances from our apartment which is located at the corner of Victory Blvd and Jersey St Staten Island, NY.
The room is located on the 2nd floor and shares a bathroom with up to 6 other guests at any given time. It has beautiful hardwood floors and a queen size bed that sleeps 2 comfortably. There is also a 25 " Flat Screen TV with basic channels... not that you will be spending much time in the room.
On the 1st floor you will find the Cafe... apart from the house with its own separate entrance. The Cafe is equipped with kitchen table, sink, dishes, pots & pans, full size stove, microwave, coffee maker and water cooler all at your disposal. There is a refridgerator as well.
The room is for low maintenance travelers. We are normally out and about and are rarely on premise. Guests that are happy staying with us are typically self-sufficient people who are able to troubleshoot and configure things such as TV, Internet, replace a light bulb, turn on heat and ac by themselves and unclog a toilet with a plunger as well as clean up after themselves. Of course things of a more serious nature will be handled promptly.
****This is NOT a luxury hotel located on Park Ave. This is a private room in a shared apartment. If sharing the kitchen and bathroom facilities is not for you please consider other alternatives. This IS a safe, clean and economic alternative to pricey NYC and only 1/2 hour away.****
Cheap and clean room, a nice experience
We were very pleased with trip and stay with Terry.everything was exactly like described.Very clean, cozy, comfortable ,definitely ,you will not regret.Ideal for those who plan most of the time walking around NYC and for travelers with small requests and low budget. Thank you,Terry!
We had a great stay! We arrived in the middle of the night and Terry made arrangements so we could access our room easily. The room was clean and small and the bathroom was also small, close and clean.
We didn't use the kitchenette, but it's a great resource to have. We grabbed a 7 day unlimited Metro Card and snagged a bus to the ferry every morning. They comes very frequently and the return buses are timed with the return ferry at night. It was an absolute breeze to get to and from and easily the most affordable place to stay.
You have to keep in mind the commute to the city daily, but it was a super experience.
I'd definitely come back.
The price-performance ratio is very good - as the ferry to staten island is free, this is a perfect alternative to all the expensive accommodations in Manhattan. The room is not too big but has everything you need!
I haven't met Terry as every day I was leaving early for NYC sightseeing and coming back late in the evening, but I really liked this place! It is close to the Staten Island ferry terminal and free ferries go across all the time and in 45mins you are out of your room and already in Downtown Manhattan. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and warm and the price was GREAT! I will definitely use this accommodation again next year when I am back to NYC. Thanks Terry!
I love Staten Island, and the ferry. This home is clean and nice and safe and convenient to the ferry. I totally recommend it if you like the city, but want quiet when you go home.
We stayed 7 nights, and only managed to see Terry after 4! However, checking in was not a problem as her communication was top notch. She advised us for the transportation to take from JFK. The bedroom C is not big, but will accommodate a couple perfectly if you crash late at night and leave in the morning. Overall, very reasonable for the price. I'd just say that after 3 days, taking the ferry every morning was a bit of a bore, so might want to think about it. Again, for the price I think it's a trade off.
The bed sheets were clean and smelled very good ;)
We arrived really late in the night but it was no problem to check in! The rooms are clean, the bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped! So everything a traveler can dream of.
You can walk from the house to the ferry station in 15minutes or take the bus which leaves near by to go to Manhatten.
We enjoyed our stay at Terry. The place was clean and quiet. If you are going for a shorter trip (like one week) the ferry trip is nice. And from the ferry there is an immediate connection with the bus that stops only few metres from the house.
This is a fantastic place for those on a budget, we were so happy we found it. Terry is a super host, even though she doesn't live in location I always felt that I could ask her for help.
We never had any troubles with the bus or ferry, in fact I believe te ferry was one of the best commutes I've done. Very pleasant to sit and watch the bay, with Manhattan closing in on you.
