Located on a quiet street in the heart of Merida's historic district, Casa Koala is the perfect place to enjoy everything this beautiful city has to offer. Within walking distance of the unique restaurants and art galleries of Santiago. Approximately 5 blocks from Santiago square and 9 blocks from the main square.

The space
Casa Koala is restored by an acclaimed local architect and located in the beautiful Santiago neighborhood just a few blocks away from the lively park and square. This home has a beautiful and open flow all the way through the property. Walking through the large colonial doors, you find a airy, bright and spacious living area opening right into the light-filled kitchen and dining space. There is a mini split in the living room to cool things off during the summer.

The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need if you want to cook. Purified water is provided and the refrigerator has ice made from purified water as well, so no need to worry. We provide you with basic kitchen equipment and appliances including a toaster and coffee machine so that you can fuel up with a satisfying breakfast to start your day. Coffee, creamer and sugar is provided -- no need to run to the nearest mini-mart for these basics.

Just past that is a patio connected to a shaded courtyard and pool to relax and refresh in after an eventful day in the warm Merida sun. There is a lovely and quiet casita with direct access to the courtyard which is separate from the main house and protected from any street noise to ensure a sound night's sleep. We can either arrange two single beds or one king size bed depending on your preferences. The first floor also has a full bath in between the patio and the pool. The patio is completely enclosed by high walls for privacy and security so that you can swim and enjoy the house with peace of mind.

The second bedroom is located on the second level above the kitchen and dining area. The washer and dryer are located in the closet attached to the master bedroom. There is a balcony that looks down onto the pool and has a gorgeous view of the surrounding greenery, including a stunning red flowering tree hanging over the casita. In addition to the balcony, the room also has a private patio for some peaceful alone time and an en suite bathroom. Each bedroom has mini splits to keep things cool.

The house features custom made furniture from Yucatan Custom Furniture (as well as some funky antique pieces), lighting from Takto and artwork from well-known Merida artists.

Hi I'm Becca, currently 25 years old, and working towards my BBA in marketing and B.A. in psychology from University of St. Thomas in Houston. I work with my parents in our family company, Burro y Flauta Vacation rentals. The last few years have been exciting for me. In 2013 I had the opportunity to take some time from university to go on a trip around the world with my grandmother. Of course I jumped at the chance and off we went for 4 months on the MS Amsterdam. I came back a completely different person and travel became an indispensable part of my life. Not only did I get to see and experience in real life what I had only ever read in history books, but it really changed my life in a concrete way... Along the way I dropped 40 lb! When I got home I was inspired to lose a total of 100 lb alongside my family. My mom, dad and I motivate and help each other meet our goals to this day. Ironic how it's all from losing weight on an all you can eat cruise ship. Since then a lot has changed. I once again seized the opportunity to go around the world this past January, which was just as amazing an experience. I've been to over 60 different countries, six continents, love experiencing new cultures, cuisines, and most of all people. By next year I will be shaking my travel bug for a little while and settling in Mérida, Mexico. I'm following my parents, who have started their new life in Mérida. My mom has been working in Mexico City for 20+ years and decided she wanted make her dream home in Mérida. My family and I have been working in and visiting Mexico ever since I can remember, especially the Yucatan. Now we are excited to fully immerse ourselves into the Yucatecan culture and build our vacation rental business together, Burro y Flauta. We hope to get others just as excited about this beautiful city as we are. For more information about us, you can visit our F . B page. I hope to see you in Mérida! Saludos. F . B /burroyflauta
