The Bamboo Retreat is three miles from University of Oregon and two miles from downtown, just steps from Amazon Bike/Walking/Running Path. The Amazon Path will take you along Amazon Creek to Downtown Eugene to the east or West Eugene Wetlands to the west. You have wireless internet and a gas barbecue at your disposal and an outdoor table and chairs on the back deck. You're located within Westmoreland Village Apartments and have access to the exercise room with running and weight machines one block away and coin-operated laundry machines just next door. I can provide you with laundry soap.
You're about .4 miles (650 meters) or under 10 minutes walk to Albertsons (supermarket and pharmacy), Starbucks (coffee), Subway (sandwiches), Sequential Biofuels (gas/petrol and bio diesel), Top City (frozen yogurt), and Westmoreland Park (walking paths and Frisbee golf). The bus stop is less than a block away and the Lane Transit District (LTD) bus will get you to downtown Eugene in about 15 minutes. My bike is usually available for your use.
The Great Wave Room is the primary guest room with a queen-sized bed that will fit up to two people. I'm the homeowner and normally live in the Forest Room but the Forest Room may also be available to rent when the Great Wave Room is occupied. The Forest Room has a queen bed. The love seat in the living room also folds out into a hydeabed when I need to accommodate more guests, even if the calendar shows occupied. Also available if two guests travel together but don't want to share the futon. I also have a thermarest camping mattress if two guests want to share the Great Wave room but not the bed.
Don't just rely on the Airbnb calendar! I have two rooms and am often happy to put guests in both. Contact me even if it shows booked. Whole apartment is also available for limited periods on request for $75/night. Inquire.
This is a green home with thick insulation and double-pane windows so it is cool in the summer and cozy in the winter. Each room has its own heater. Food scraps go in the compost and plastic, aluminum, paper and steel in the recycling. The kitchen has a dishwasher and built-in microwave for your use.The water heater is small and efficient but we may need to space out showers if you need to take long ones. I normally shower in the evenings.
I'm an avid hiker and have a collection of hiking guide books available for our use as well as board games Pictionary and Scrabble. If I'm going hiking, you're welcome to join me, or I can also connect you to my friends through our meetup hiking group that usually has about three outings a week.
In keeping with many generations of tradition in my family in China and Hawaii, I ask guests to remove shoes at the door to keep the home clean inside. My current max booking time is a week but we can discuss longer stays once we get to know each other. Normal check in is after 3pm and normal check out is by 11am. I often have back to back bookings so need that time get the place as clean for my next guests as it is for you. If you need different check in and check out times, just ask and I will do what I can to accommodate your needs.
I've traveled to 20 countries and lived in Spain, France, Mexico, Taiwan and New Zealand and love to host travelers from the US and around the world. Welcome! Bienvenidos! Bienvenue! Haere mai! Huanying! I'm not gay, but am gay friendly.

Sandor was an excellent host. Unfortunately we did not meet in person, but his house was exactly as he described it. Moreover, he went out of his way to make my stay as pleasant as possible and helpend me out with several other things. I would definitely recommend staying here.
Sándor is a great host, an interesting guy, and I really enjoyed staying with him! Everything was clean, the location is good (not too far from downtown but away from the racket)--I would definitely stay at the Bamboo Retreat again!
Sandor's Bamboo Retreat
Serene is the room
After dusk, a splash of bamboo
Nothing stirs, except
Over hanging pea pods and the rising
Roaring waves rushing against Mount Fuji
Leaves are blushing
A hit of fall
Sandor was able to accommodate me last minute at his house, so grateful! I was in Eugene for two days, and found the location to be great for walking, taking public transportation, and with all the materials he has on local hiking- I felt that I could have explored Eugene for many many days! His place was clean, comfortable, welcoming, and warm. He has a wonderful, and delightfully sacred home space that he shares with his guests. I felt at home, and very happily recommend his house. Shame I didn't get to meet him, but I can assume he is as great as his hospitality!
Great experience staying here. Wasn't able to meet Sandor, but he was very communicative throughout the process. This apartment is in a convenient location. Great for the weekend! We left an electric toothbrush behind and Sandor volunteered to send it along to us. Great host!
Sandor's Bamboo retreat was lovely, very cosy and a great base for exploring the region. The room and the communal area was very clean & comfortable and Sandor was a great host.
Sandor had a nice place with everything you would need. It was comfortable and private. Sandor provided us with good advice and what to do while in the area and was always responsive when we had questions. Next time when we have more time, hopefully he'll take us on a hike :). We wish him luck on his Oregon trail adventure.
Sandor's place was just the ticket I was looking for: clean and centrally located in Eugene.
What a wonderful experience: quiet, peaceful, yet near to so many activities! Sándor's place was clean and artistically decorated, too. Highly recommended!
Sandor was a great host; he had recommendations for food, hiking, and other activities around the area. He was very accommodating with my late request to stay with him and did everything he could to make my stay a good one.
