Rustic Life on Scenic Lake Ontario

Cabin - Entire home/apt · E Bay Rd, Wolcott, NY 14590, United States

Enjoy our large, rustic cottage home for a scenic vacation, family reunion, group retreat, hunting trip or creative getaway. Located on gorgeous Lake Ontario, the last in the Great Lakes chain, our cottage is surrounded by beauty at every turn.

The Space

Lot's of space and plenty of beds make this a great retreat for extended families and groups of friends, while still being cozy enough for a romantic retreat for two. If you're planning a vacation to get away from your busy, hardworking daily routine our cottage is for you! This is a perfect place to get away from it all.

Our rustic cottage has an open floor plan with a spacious kitchen, one bathroom, a wood stove, and a wraparound porch equipped with picnic tables, adirondack chairs, a hammock, grill and porch swing for relaxing and barbequing. There is direct lake access with a private beach. There are folding chairs, beach mats, tubes and inflatables available to make your days on the beach fun and enjoyable. Boat launching is only 1000 feet down the road, directly into East Bay.

Cottage offers room for fourteen or more people, with 3 bedrooms, a loft, and spacious living room. There are 4 single beds, 2 sets of bunk beds, one queen bed, one full futon bed, and two couches available. Plenty of room for camping and tents in the front and back yards overlooking the lake.

In the summer there are fans available in each room to keep things cool, and there is a designated bon fire area overlooking the lake for making s'mores.

In winter, the house is heated by a wood stove and electric heaters. The stove keeps things nice and toasty while guests overlook the beautiful lake and winter landscape.

The deck and first floor of this property are handicap accessible. We are a family and pet friendly household. If you have any questions before booking please send us a message. We look forward to hearing from you!

Guest Access

Blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, toilet paper, and soap are provided. Electricity, water delivery, and firewood are available year round.

There are folding chairs, beach mats, and many tubes and inflatables available for guest use.

There are TVs, loads of games, and a large video library. No cable, no WiFi. Cell phone signal is good to fair depending on carrier.

Interaction with Guests

We believe that check in should be as easy, simple, and stress free as possible, and strive to make it so. The space is private, and guests have sole access to it during their stay. That said, we are always happy to answer any questions that guests may have about the house, area, getting around, tours, etc. Just ask!

The Neighborhood

Our cottage faces Lake Ontario with great lake access and a private beach. The road we are on ends at East Bay, and is lined with some summer homes and some permanent residences. The neighborhood makes for a great evening walk, there is a loop that passes a winery and dips down along the bay.

We are walking distance to Chimney Bluff State Park, where there are countless amenities and activities available for all season fun and all ages. In addition to beautiful scenic views of the most dramatic landscape on the Lake Ontario shore, the state park offers: barbequing and picnic facilities, swimming, hiking trails, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing trails, x-country skiing, and bathroom facilities the are open year round.

Spring, Summer, Winter, or Fall, any season on the Great Lake is an adventure. There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, or you can stay home and cozy up to the fire and enjoy the beautiful views and rustic cottage decor. Shopping and restaurants in the quaint towns of Wolcott, Sodus Point, and Sodus Bay are minutes away. In the summer you can go by boat to Skippers Landing, the local lakeside restaurant & bar.

Getting around

Hiking, swimming, boat, and driving are the best ways to get around here. Due to the remote location there is not public transportation directly to or from the house, however there are car services available out of Rochester, Syracuse, and Oswego.

Other Things to Note

We require that all guests sign a rental contract.

We provide pillows, comforters and blankets. Guests bring their own sheets and towels. These can be provided for an additional fee.

Our family cottage kitchen is stocked well but modestly. Plenty of plates, silverware, utensils and mugs with lots of charm. Cooking utensils are basic - bowls, measuring cups and spoons, pots, cast iron pans, and a few other odds and ends. There is a tea kettle, coffee maker, microwave, crock pot, waffle maker, and griddle.

There are 2 large picnic tables available for guest use that seat 8-10 people each. The dining table inside seats 6 comfortably.

Due to the remote location there is no city water supply. The household water is delivered through a well or tank system - all facilities run as usual, but we strongly encourage water conservation and depending on the number of guests and water consumption there may be need for a water delivery during your stay. We always schedule and inform guests of deliveries in advance. We do recommend bringing bottled or spring water for drinking.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We would thoroughly recommend the cabin to anyone who stumbles across it and thinks “Wow, that looks cool!”. Prior to arriving and during our stay we had a couple of additional questions to which Alexis and Mark promptly answered and basically made everything very easy-going. The cabin itself is a veritable treasure trove of bits and bobs which ooze charm, and the basement is full of items which would come in particularly handy during the summer (unfortunately the lake was still partially frozen when we were there). The area around the cabin is also sublime and I imagine will look lovely come spring/summer when the apple trees begin to blossom. We hope to be back!

  • We had a great reunion with my brother's family on a cold weekend in February. The wood stove did take a while, so if you're coming in the winter bring cozy layers, and I recommend you bring kindling to make a fire more quickly. The lake views were amazing - the ice kept changing over the weekend. Enjoyed snowshoeing at Chimney Bluffs State Park (bluff trail). We were disappointed that the snow machines had the run of most of the other trails. The house is basic but we found what we needed. My kids enjoyed the drum set and Star Wars Monopoly. In case you pictured more seclusion there were neighbors nearby, but with the colder weather it was quiet. Alexis responded to my e-mails promptly, gave weather updates, and helped trouble-shoot some concerns at the start of our stay. Thank you!!

  • This cabin was chock full of character and tons of little surprise goodies. Even if we hadn't brought our own games, we would not have been bored. There's a selection of classic board games, cards, puzzles, six different game consoles, a large collection of actually very good movies, boogie boards, a couple of bikes (that have perhaps seen better days), and probably other stuff that I've just plain forgot. Or if you feel like doing nothing, there's a great wraparound porch. You can relax not 20 feet from Lake Superior. Our hosts responded very quickly to calls or texts. They even accommodated our request for a late checkout.

  • Beautiful home right on the water. The open floor plan, two-story windows, and big log beams crossing the living room are just a few of the features that make this place a gem. I stayed here in the winter and it was an ideal getaway. I hope to book again in the summer.

  • we had a really wonderful stay at this place! The cabin is GORGEOUS. the lake is literally in the backyard. We had a wild range of weather but both we (a group of 6 friends and two pups) got to take some nice walks, both in the neighborhood, at chimney bluff state park, and along the lake. One morning there was even a 10 foot wide 'beach' of ice along lake ontario with cool icicle formations! The house is amazing and has way more amenities in terms of cookware than we were expecting, e.g. a nice wine opener, cast irons, etc. It took a little while for the house to warm up via the stove but once it did it was nice and toasty and there are space heaters and blankets galore. Alexis was very responsive by text message for the few questions we had, and even flexible about when we got there and left given the holiday-time (we were there for New Years). Would love to stay here in the summer to see the contrast but it was a lovely winter getaway. Oh also there was great excitement by several members of our group about the amazing collection of videos (e.g. Scream and Star Wars), and game systems (n64, etc), and board games (e.g. bananagrams). All in all so much fun, so cozy, and lovely, and a wonderful home and access to nature. Thanks!

  • My husband, mother-in-law and I had a wonderful getaway at the Bluffs Cabin for Christmas week 2013. We also had the pleasure of meeting Alexis & Mark - super friendly people. We enjoyed the "rustic life" so much we didn't go anywhere for the first two-and-a-half days. Had to constantly tend to the fire to keep the heat, but we didn't mind that at all. Lots of blankets. The view is beautiful. Only suggestion for future would be to consider reducing the $80 cleaning fee given that guests are asked to clean (take out garbage, vacuum) and bring their own sheets/towels. Regardless, we wouldn't hesitate to return - especially in summer!

  • Me and 7 of my friends rented cabin last weekend and it was amazing. We had beautiful snowy weather, we were warm, and it felt just like home. Mark and Alexis made it a welcoming, homey environment for us.

There was a computer issue when making the reservation and Alexis was so helpful, and gracious I cannot give her enough praise for being such a trooper. They are amazing people to rent from, and work with. Not only was their cabin a blessing, but they were as people. I look forward to having the pleasure of renting from them again.

I would highly suggest that you come stay here. Having the lake in you back yard, amazing hiking trails, and stunning views everywhere you go is a unique commodity that is difficult to explain in words.

Thank you both so much for your help, and for opening your home. You are the most ideal hosts.

  • Excellent, the house is beautiful and very welcoming. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and Mark and Alexis were very accommodating to our needs. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to rent for a retreat, weekend getaway, or just simply for family fun. I will absolute stay with them again, they made our experience better than expected, and made it fun and easy for us to enjoy our time on the Lake!
    Couldn't recommend them more!

  • We had a wonderful time at the cabin celebrating my mother's 60th birthday with our entire family--including our baby and dog.

We enjoyed spending time walking along the beach and exploring the surrounding natural areas. We definitely had enough water for showers and cooking. We had enough beds for us all. The shared space was wonderful. The cabin is stocked with tons of interesting books, games, movies and music.

The cabin was nice and toasty warm once we got the fire going. Great cabin! Great communication with renters! Very open, understanding, and clear.

  • We spent Thanksgiving here with five adults. It was a nice cozy cabin. Tons of games, instruments, and enough cookware to fit our needs. This place would be great for kids, especially in the summer. Parts of the house were unfinished (exposed insulation) and it can be cold but the wood stove was great once it got started. The owners provided plenty of fire wood and extra blankets which was greatly appreciated. The mattresses are a bit on the older side which might not be ideal for some, but we had no issues. Thanks for being such great hosts!
