Cozy one bedroom apartment unit - location is gay-friendly Hollywood Beach on the safe and accessible north side neighborhood of Edgewater in Chicago. The beach is behind the building, no need to even cross the street.
You would be easily connected with the entire city: Bus 147 can be taken right across the street and takes you to downtown Chicago within 40 minutes; the CTA Red Line takes you everywhere and is within five blocks. Andersonville is a ten minute walk away, Boystown is a 15 minute train ride away.
Our building has 24 hour doorman service and it's located right where the bike path ends. There's basic cable and internet, parking would cost extra and animals are not allowed. The roof is also an excellent getaway on its own right: one may see fireworks, use its wireless connection, view the air show where the planes fly low and close to the buildings, one may read, cook or drink with friends.
My unit is cozy, has huge windows and is bright, has a partial lake view. If it gets noisy at night due to traffic, I'm happy to provide earplugs.
I'm also happy to be a resource if you'd like to get acquainted with the city, and if time allows am even happy to cook affordable homemade food.
Animals are not allowed in the building.
Hiram is simply the best host. It was my first experience with Airbnb so I was little bit skeptical, but it turned out very good experience and ended up making host a good friend. He welcomed me very nicely as if I m meeting a known good friend. He is very familiar with the city and can guide you very well. As Hiram being an author he is very good at communication and we had a very good intellectual conversation. He is also a good cook. He made an awesome meal for me, it was so delicious. His place is not very spacious but location is priceless. Specially the view from rooftop is spectacular. Beach is down the street. No need to cross a road as if you are leaving on the beach house.
I would definitely recommend a single person or a couple to stay there.
Hiram was very hospitable, friendly, and accommodating. He even offered to cook for us, although we were never around to take him up on that offer. The listing mentioned a futon which we assumed would be in the living room, but he actually gave us the bedroom which offered us more privacy, but there was less light and it was more cramped than the pictures showed. The building is right on the beach with a beautiful view from the rooftop and red line stops are only a few blocks away which makes it convenient base camp to get anywhere in the city. The neighborhood is sufficiently lit with Walgreens and restaurants nearby for quick food options or to pick up last minute items you forgot. All things aside, this location is a great steal for the price, location, and convenience.
Hiram welcomed us with dinner and we had a lovely chat down by the water. Basic bed and amenities but it was all that we needed at the time. Thanks very much Harim!
I had to stay for a couple of nights in Hiram's place. I love the location of the building. The beach is behind it! Awesome area. Quiet place. And Hiram is very friendly.
Hiram is a good host. The house is very near to the bus station and metro station. Stores and restaurants are also very close. It is in a safe and convenient community.
Hiram was very welcoming and we had nice discussions on the roof top of his building. Nice host!
The host was a very nice & kind man. He was very knowledgeable about the community & Chicago. He even cooked up lunch. The place was nice and right by the beach area. We would stay there again. We could go on the roof of the building and see the entire city of Chicago (and fireworks) for the 4th of July.
