The space
This unit is a former garage that I've converted into a quirky 1920's style cozy studio with its own bathroom and small kitchenette (mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, and dishes. No stove/oven). There is also a washer/dryer available and a parking pass for free street parking. While I actually lived in the apartment myself for a year, it's smaller size (12x18 ft room + 5x7 ft bathroom) and limited natural light through porthole windows may not appeal to everyone. Personalized heater/air conditioner allows you to set your preferred temperature and the air purifier can also serve as a white noise machine for a restful night's sleep. There is a TV with local stations and an Amazon Fire Stick with access to Amazon Prime Video. You can also use your Netflix or Hulu credentials to access your accounts through the Amazon device. The apartment faces the back alley, which makes it relatively quiet (please read “other things to note” below). Only two blocks from metro (yellow/green lines) makes this space perfect for one or two people to stay in while exploring DC. You will find the area to be very walkable and I've listed nearby cafés and stores in the guidebook.

Guest access
Apartment entrance is located in the alleyway behind the home (please read “other things to note” below). While the entrance of the Hideway is shared with another apartment in the basement, the apartment is private and guests will have the ability to come and go as they please. Guests will be given private code access so they may let themselves in and do not need to schedule arrival with host. Check-in is anytime after 3pm and check-out is by 11am. If guests need to check-in earlier or check-out later, they can leave bags in the locked laundry room outside the apartment door.

Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE:
- Guests will use the alley entrance (back entrance) to the home. While this is typical for a lot of DC residents, walking through the alley can seem a little unusual for some people. It is well lit and we use this entrance as well, but if it feels like this is going to make you uncomfortable we would suggest booking a different location. [Incidentally, if you want to explore some of DC's famous alleyways filled bars, restaurants and coffeeshops, we recommend checking out Blagden Alley: Some of our favorites spots there are Tiger Fork, Calico, and Espita. Similarly, closer to home but harder to book is Madyan restaurant located in the alleyway off 1346 Florida Avenue NW]
-While I'm proud of DC's diversity and mixed culture, particularly within my neighborhood, we also have our fair share of issues such as homelessness and addiction which is evident throughout the city but it's appearance can vary greatly from day to day. DC is very pedestrian friendly & most conveniences such as grocery stores are within walking distance. Metro, buses, bike rentals (capital bikeshare), uber & taxis are also easily available. I can provide a parking pass for street parking, but free street parking is limited to our neighborhood only (parking map provided in room). We provide maps, guidebooks and recommendations within the room.

Location

Washington, District of Columbia, United States

Located in Parkview (Georgia Ave/Petworth), which is an eclectic up-and-coming neighborhood which gives you the real local DC experience that can be both charming & rugged. Lots of restaurants/bars nearby, including three of my favorites: The Looking Glass Lounge, The Coupe, & Red Rocks. Happy to give you recommendations. Maps & guidebooks are left for the guests in the room. While I'm proud of the neighborhood's diversity, we also have our fair share of city-related issues such as homelessness and addiction which can be evident throughout DC but its presence can vary depending on the day. Alternatively, visitors often note DC's overall cleanliness, especially downtown and the National Mall, which is kept particularly clean.
