The Space

*****As of August 10, 2013, we will be closing our Mexicantownhouse Airbnb. Heather has accepted a job out of state and we will be moving on August 15. To any of our previous guests, who may be looking to stay with us again, we encourage you to look up our friends, Angela and Scott (, who have a lovely apartment in Midtown Detroit. Their apartment is beautiful and their neighborhood is great and we know you will love staying with them.*****

Welcome to Mexicantownhouse!

About Our Neighborhood:
Mexicantownhouse is located in Hubbard Farms, a small historic neighborhood situated in Mexicantown in Southwest Detroit. Hubbard Farms is a residential neighborhood, but we are just a bike ride away from all of the restaurants, coffee shops, drug stores and supermarkets Mexicantown has to offer.

And, we are right next to the Ambassador Bridge to Canada, so bring your passport if you are interested in exploring Windsor.

We own several bicycles, so if you are traveling to Detroit sans automobile, we are happy to set you up on two wheels and can even provide a list of places to see and things to do while you are here.

About Our Home:
Mexicantownhouse is a 114-year-old townhouse that was recently renovated but maintains loads of original character. We have two bedrooms (ours plus a guest room) and one bathroom which will be shared along with the kitchen, dining room, and living room. We invite you to feel at home in our home - use our kitchen, read our books, take a beer from our fridge, sit on our porch, etc...

  • Wonderful hosts! Nice, safe and pleasant home. Perfect for our visit.
Heather must have been a tour guide in a past life. She was extremely helpful about directions, where to go etc.

  • Heather and Steve were lovely hosts and their flat was convenient and comfortable. Mexicantown is a great neighborhood to explore, and there was a cute local coffee shop, a lush park and amazing tacos within easy walking distance.

  • Heather is a 5 star host! Very warm and considerate. Prompt communication. She kept the apartment very well. Clean, gorgeous and homey. It’s just a really comfortable place to stay. I love the Detroit guide she put together. Very professional and informative. She’s really knowledgeable about Detroit area and art and design. I enjoyed talking with her on those topics and learned a lot! I’ll definitely stay with her if I travel to detroit again and I highly recommend her as a host.

  • Heather and Steve were great hosts, and they have an awesome house. We loved Detroit and much of that had to do with their recommendations. We would certainly stay there again.

  • I absolutely loved my stay at Heather and Steve's. They have created a charming home, and I felt very welcome and at ease. Having access to a bike was a great bonus! My only regret was not staying longer, I was in Detroit for a conference and did not get to visit the city much. All the more reason to return! Heather and Steve, thank you for your generosity and hospitality, looking forward to my next visit!

  • Steve and Heather were very hospitable and their house was very nice and clean.

  • Did not actually stay here due to change of travel plans.

    July 2013
  • Heather and Steve were lovely hosts, the place was clean and welcoming, the neighbourhood felt safe and nice and the location was pretty good, but really in Detroit it seems like you should have a car regardless of where you stay -not much public transport.
My friend and I had an excellent time in Detroit, I can't believe it gets such a bad rep -we saw so much good art and met such interesting people, it was a great trip and a great air bnb experience!

  • Heather and Steve are great. Super easy to deal with and very accommodating. The house was clean and comfortable and in a great neighborhood. Would definitely stay there again!
