A totally unique house in a beautiful and historic part of the country. Perfect for romantic getaways, but can also sleep 8 for family get-togethers and fun DC weekend escapes. Huge kitchen, beautiful fireplace, all on 4 acres in the woods.
Awesome geodesic dome house near historic Harpers Ferry. This house is truly unique, with a 25' ceiling, spiral staircase, lovely kitchen, huge living room, fireplace, and 2 acres of space!
Located just a little over an hour from DC, 3 hours from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and about 5 from NYC, the dome is only a half mile from the beautiful Shenandoah River and less than a mile from the Appalacian Trail. Historic Harpers Ferry is just four miles away, and Charles Town's Hollywood Casino is less than a ten-minute drive.
2 bedrooms and 2 full baths, a huge pullout couch, additional couches and air mattresses allow the place to accomodate anything from a romantic weekend for two to a house party of a dozen. Previous guests have included families, couples, eco-women retreaters and century-ride bikers.
Kitchen is not only fully equipped (pots/pans/dishes) but also stocked with spices, dry goods, and even beer - take what you need and leave your contribution for beverages and ingredients when you check out.
As mentioned in the title, this house is truly unique - its a geodesic dome house (bucky ball), with a beautiful full-wall mural, spiral staircase, and wrap-around deck. Just like a regular house but better!
New HVAC is keeping the dome cool at the tail end of the summer and warming the place quickly in winter. The central fireplace can get the place really toasty (and romantic :) as an alternative to the fancy new heating/cooling.
Dome currenty does not have a working dishwasher or washer/dryer. We also have a hot tub that doesn't work, but hope to have fixed by the summer.
Dogs OK with permission but they must be VERY housebroken and stay off the furniture. Sorry, no cats (allergies :(). For dogs there is a $25 additional pet fee payable in cash or check to my caretaker.
Little kids are great too, but it should be noted that the house is not child-proofed, and has an exposed spiral staircase (so recommend no pets or small kids on the second floor).
Feel free to contact me with questions about the place or the area - I wish I could get out there more often!

This Dome is a magical place. It's really even more amazing than portrayed. The architecture is an amazing design that allows energy and sound to flow counterclockwise through the entire house. It's secluded an off the beaten pass. An amazing place to get away from it all
Billy's dome was great! The s/o and I spent three days and four nights in the dome and it was a wonderful experience. A very unique space with an open floor plan and high ceilings. We loved being able to cook every night and having a fire going in the wood burning stove. We felt very comfortable and relaxed throughout our entire stay.
Billy was very communicative and answered every question I had. He was even kind enough to gift us with a bottle of wine for our weekend!
Thank you, Billy, for a great time. I will be sure to keep the dome in mind for future weekend getaways.
The dome was a great secluded spot for our New Year's getaway. This place is exactly what you see in the pictures. We were able to comfortably fit 7 people and Billy doesn't charge for extra people (which a lot of other owners do). The dome is about twenty minutes from Charles Town, with a large casino/ horse race track and twenty minutes from historic Harper's Ferry.
Very nice stay at the dome. The fireplace was perfect for the snowy weather we had.
It was a nice get away. But the hut tub, dishwasher and fireplace don't work and seem like they haven't for a while. For people with families, it was hard because there was an open basement stair case that we had to barricade and the spiral staircase. Also, you do have to drive to hike as the dome is in a community of houses, hiking isn't outside your door.
:) - so...a couple of clarifications:
- The fireplace actually works great. We had an amazing fire going all weekend - definitely one highlight of the place.
- The hot tub has not worked for a while, and that is why it is not advertised in the airBNB listing...but there is a nice, big, hot bathtub in the master bed/bath.
- There is an open spiral staircase - so if you have small children it is probably best to know this before renting, and if you choose to stay I would recommend staying on the big first floor in the guest bedroom.
Hope these are helpful clarifications
We had a great time at the dome! It was exactly how it looked in pictures and was a very unique property. The dome is very close and convenient to historic Harpers Ferry, horseback riding, and vineyards. I really appreciated how accommodating Billy was with our dogs and our request for a late check-out. The master bathroom has a spacious tub which is great for relaxing. We had a great time and hope to be back soon.
Great weekend at the dome! Comfortable house with tons to do. Would love to go back in the future!
My husband and I really enjoyed our long anniversary weekend at the dome! William was very friendly and the place was clean and inviting. Due to persistent rain and the government shutdown we spent a lot of time inside enjoying the forested views, making meals in the kitchen, and playing games by the fire. The space was very functional and unique and about 15-30 minutes from most local hot spots (unfortunately most of them were closed or outdoors). However, we would highly recommend the Sweet Shine distillery as a fun and entertaining foul weather option. Cheers!
Great place, great caretaker! Very cute, and rustic chic feel. The kind of place you would want to drink coffee while reading the paper on the full circle deck, while listening to birds chirp.
I had a great weekend here with my girlfriends! This place is so cute and has such an inviting kitchen that warmly welcomes discussion and drinks. I'd definitely stay here again - very comfortable dome and many memories of laughter were had here!
