Our attractive, comfortable bedroom has a skylight, half-moon window, and comfortable double-size futon. We're in a unique historic district with lots of character and easy access to an exciting, vibrant downtown Raleigh scene and the NCSU campus.

The space

Our unique and beautiful 100-year old home is in the Boylan Heights historic district. It is an easy walk to downtown, the Convention Center, Sheraton Hotel, NC State University and the Glenwood South entertainment district with many great restaurants. We also have our own neighborhood brew pub two blocks away where you can enjoy an outstanding view of downtown Raleigh from the outdoor deck. We're only a few blocks to city and regional bus lines and the Amtrak train station. The room has recently been painted and redecorated. The futon bed is very comfortable. Wifi is available and you're welcome to check your email on one of our computers. Wait 'til you relax in the huge shower with multiple shower heads in the bathroom across from you room or soak in the old-fashioned claw-footed tube in the second bathroom. Please note that these bathrooms are shared with us and possibly one other guest. We provide an array of breakfast foods for a fix-it-yourself breakfast and coffee/tea are always available. Our spacious house has a large front porch with a swing and a welcoming deck overlooking the backyard. Our home has a wonderful inviting atmosphere and we enjoy sharing it with people. Please note that this room is listed for only 1 guest. We have another room listed on airbnb (at "Near downtown unique historic home") which also accommodates 1 guest. Often both rooms are reserved at the same time and we've found it works best to have only 1 guest per room for a total of 2 airbnb guests with us at any given time.

Guest access

In addition to the guest's bedroom, guests have access to two bathrooms, laundry room, kitchen use for breakfasts, our back deck overlooking the garden and our front porch with a swing.

Interaction with guests

We give our guests the privacy they want and enjoy getting to know them as opportunities arise, some times over the do-it-yourself breakfast we provide or in the evening when guests return from their activities. We're also happy to make recommendations for restaurants and places to go and we provide a comprehensive map of Raleigh's downtown areas. We're in and out a lot ourselves so our guests have a key and come and go as they like.

Other things to note

We welcome guests from all over the world and are honored to share our home with them. We are participating in a new campaign in our city to indicate that all are welcome here. So in our front yard, along with many other front yards in Raleigh, is a new sign that reads "Welcome to Raleigh Ya'll" in English and in many other languages. It is important to us to send a message that regardless of ethnicity, country of origin, religion, gender, sexual preference or gender identity, you are welcome in our home

The house is adorable, clean, and in a really convenient location, walking distance to downtown. The room I stayed in was a little too warm, but Tom let me know that was an issue when I arrived. I wasn't there much anyway, as I was in a conference, but they had a standing fan at the foot of the bed that worked well and I had no trouble falling asleep with that on. The breakfast items offered were a nice touch and helped me save time in the mornings. Thanks for a great visit!

I absolutely loved staying at Ginny and Tom's place. From the moment I got there, it was like I was home. Such a lovely couple they are. The house is beautiful, my room was very comfortable, the shower was great and I enjoyed drinking coffee on thier swing on the front porch. A great stay all the way around.

Ginny & Tom's place met my expectations! They have a beautiful home and it's in a very nice quiet neighborhood. It really is convenient to downtown, definitely an easy walk. My room was clean, their shower is amazing, and they had a good small setup for breakfast in the mornings. They're both very sweet people and they will be my top choice when I'm back in the Downtown Raleigh area!
