Impagabile!
I had a fantastic time staying at Claude's place. He and his wife, Anna, were extremely welcoming -- they made me feel like an old friend who they were hosting at their place in Salvador.
The location is terrific, close enough to everything that you would want to get to, but also the neighborhood that the house is situated in has an unique vibe, a character all it's own. The house itself is bright and airy. Even though Salvador can be unbearably humid, the house always had a refreshing breeze flowing through, thanks to the house's proximity to the sea. The room I rented has a nice view of the ocean from the balcony.
Claude's insider knowledge helped me navigate the city with ease and he provided a wealth of useful information -- from bus schedules to recommended restaurants and also some great Carnaval advice -- it wouldn't have been the same trip without his help. His wife, Anna, also accompanied me on a trip to buy a Carnaval shirt (called an abada). I think this task would have been impossible without her assistance. I was very grateful that she took the time to lead through the city.
Much has already been written about Claude's wonderful breakfasts -- I can only add that they live up to the hype. It was something that I definitely looked forward upon waking (and during Carnaval I happened to wake up quite late). No matter what time I finally rose from bed, the breakfast was there waiting for me.
I highly recommend renting a room at Claude and Anna's house. Staying at their place will only enrich your time in Salvador. I know my stay during Carnaval would not have been the same (or as good) had I chosen to rent a room somewhere else.
I went to Bahia to celebrate Oxala festival and stayed at the bed and breakfast option, which is in Claude's home. Claude's fresh fruit salad and occasional omlet were awesome. Claude was also very helpful with showing me around and or pointing me in the right direction. I must also mention that there was a mishap in the room in which a curtain got a small burned, I replaced and purchased new curtains before departing. Unfortunately, somewhere in between that someone had already been in my room and took $ 140 U.S. dollars. Since I was not using dollars (instead of exchanging I put the dollars aside and went to the bank to withdraw Brazilian Reals). As for as I know the only person who had been in my room was Claude's wife Anna. I had not noticed money was missing until my departure. Extremely sad and unfortunate discovery.
The B&B option cannot be responsable of missing money principally when each guest has a personnal safe and an inimitable key for it. Extremely sad discovery this kind of insinuation specially for my wife Ana who was used to clean up the room in front of you and never out of your presence.
Une chambre très jolie dans un quartier agréable ! (full name hidden) est un hôte très agréable qui fait tout pour que vous vous sentiez bien ( petit déjeuner excellent, conseils pratiques et touristiques...). Salvador vaut le détour!!!!!
Claude is a great host, he makes sure you really feel like at home, he came even with the taxi driver to the airport to pick me up, he gives you information and tips, he wanted to show me the neighborhood but unfortunately I was too busy with work! Great terrace to chill, spot humming birds and have breakfast, Great breakfast-even with pancakes! The room is very light so an eye cover is good to have, especially if you enjoy night life in this district. But the apartment is at a very quiet place. Dankjewel Claude, tot de volgende keer!
Claude was a great host! Gave as a helpful overview of the neighborhood and the Salvador transportation system. Also, great breakfasts!
We spent 17 days in Salvador for the last half of the World Cup and had a most enjoyable time staying with Claude and his family! Claude mAde a lovely breakfast for us each morning on the balcony and was very helpful with directions for getting around Salvador, even giving us a walking tour of rio vermelho on our first day to show the best eating in the neighbourhood. There are a lot of good bars and restaurants within walking distance and we felt safe in the area. The room was very clean and the balcony was great for the relaxing days. Thanks Claude we will miss brazil!!
