Bright, spacious front guestroom in circa-1900 East Austin home. Located in the Swede Hill neighborhood, we are a 6 block walk to the Texas Capitol and less than 10 blocks from UT's football stadium. We are close to bus routes and in walking distance of Austin's entertainment districts.
Our home has plenty of history and charm. Think bookshelves and comfy couches, spacious rooms, and plenty of bread, fruit, jam & tea always in the kitchen... accented sometimes by the smells of Jude's wonderful cooking! We have a fine front lawn, a screened-in back porch and a HUGE backyard with a pond that hosts fish, frogs, lilies, and a turtle named Karl. We have one sweet dog named Gracie who wanders in and out, the house is handicap accessible with a handicap-friendly bathroom, and all rooms have access to WIFI and the washer/dryer.
The room itself features big windows (with blackout curtains if you like to sleep in!), a super comfortable queen-sized bed, towels, plants, etc.
We comply with Austin’s Short Term Rental regulations. All city and state taxes are included in your price (but we pay 15% tax on all revenues).
Guests have full use of the house: kitchen, laundry room, yard, sunroom and porches, and living room.
Interaction with Guests
Two of us live here permanently and someone is almost always around to answer questions! The house can be as much of a home to you as you like during your stay :)
Swede Hill is an eclectic neighborhood; fun, funky, safe, and close to UT campus and stadiums and downtown.
Swede Hill is in walking distance of Downtown. We are 4 blocks from the Airport Flyer Stop and 1 block from a bus stop. We are a 4 minute walk from the nearest bike share station (austin has 40 stations).

Jude, David and Gracie were lovely hosts. The house had everything I needed for my stay and location wise it was brilliant.
I had a lovely stay in a nice room, with great company. Thanks!
Jude and David are generous and easy-going hosts. I was delighted by the availability of fresh fruit--a godsend to a traveler that is eating meals out--and that the coffee maker was ready to go in the morning. The location is very convenient to downtown, about a $4-6 Uber ride away. A cool, funky old book and art-filled home with a comfy living room, bed, and plenty of towels and extra blankets and pillows for comfort. Being greeted by the dog, Grace, was a sweet bonus. I only wish I had had more time to visit with the hosts and explore the grounds.
Jude was very welcoming and kind. The house was spacious yet cozy and there were lots of goodies for breakfast and snack. Location was great because it was close to downtown without feeling you were in the city center.
We very much enjoyed our one night stay with Jude and David. It's a charming house in a nice neighbourhood in East downtown. It's conveniently located just a 10 min walk to the Capitol building.
Jude and David were very helpful with recommendations for sightseeing and dining options and were all round perfect hosts. Good communication and clear instructions for arrival.
We stayed in Austin for the Texas Book Festival. This location was very close to the capitol grounds. The room was very clean and spacious. Jude met us when we arrived and walked us through the important information. Then we were on our own. We had a wonderful stay.
Jude is an absolutely charming and warm person, she made me feel at "home" right away.
The Room has lots of light and you have all the commodities of a home: access to the kitchen, one bath and one shower, AC & a ceiling fan, a back and front yard and porch, a very comfy living room and a very friendly dog.
You come in and out of the house as you please and need.
It's not as close to downtown as I thought it would be but it is doable if you are ready for a good 25min walk/hike.

A retired corporate and nonprofit exec, I have a 20,000 volume rare book store, a sweet rescue dog and a vibrant garden and fish/turtle pond that keep me very busy. My housemate, David, is a singer/dancer and Uber driver, also at your service.
