The Space

Bright, airy room in circa 1900 east Austin home. Located in the Swede Hill neighborhood, we are a 6 block walk to the Texas Capitol and less than 10 blocks from UT's football stadium. We are close to bus routes and a $6 cab to Austin's entertainment districts. Our home is decorated in what I like to call "post-hippie eclectic" and has a wrap around front porch and large screened in rear patio. Two friendly dogs live here; they are well trained and have a large yard to run in. We are on an oversized lot and back up to a city park. There is a meditation path around the back yard and a fish pond with fish, frogs, lilies, and a turtle named Karl.
You will share 2 bathrooms (one has a tub and one a shower)and a fullly equipped kitchen with Gray, your host. Judith occupies the attic upstairs (with its own bath) part of the year. The house is equipped with digital cable and wifi high speed internet, your room has individual heat/AC unit, 32 flat screen with digital cable, and netflix. The house is filled with light, books and interesting things to look at. There is a washer/dryer and screened in back porch as well. We also include continental breakfast. Rates will be higher for F1 weekend, ACL, and SXSW. During these times we may also let the private sleeping loft and front office with single sleeping sofa.
P.S. The house is handicap accessible and has a handicap ramp and the sower is handicap accessible.

We comply with Austin’s Short Term Rental regulations. All city and state taxes are included in your price (but we pay 15% tax on all revenues)

Guest Access

Guests have full use of the house: kitchen, laundry room, yard, sunroom and porches, and living room.

Interaction with Guests

We're here if you need us. If I'm not in the house, I'm available 24 hours a day via txt and airbnb message. The dogs are also available to answer questions:-)

The Neighborhood

Swede Hill is an eclectic neighborhood; fun, funky, safe, and close to UT campus and stadiums and downtown.

Getting around

Swede Hill is in walking distance of Downtown. We are 4 blocks from the Airport Flyer Stop and 1 block from a bus stop. We are a 4 minute walk from the nearest bike share station (austin has 40 stations).

  • Staying at Gray's house was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone. He was very helpful and his home is lovely. Judith was helpful and suggested some Austin things to do. Their two dogs, George and Grace, were extremely friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed petting them any chance I got. It was easy to find from the highway and not hard at all to navigate around the neighborhood.

  • This was my first experience with Airbnb and it will not be my last. The home was warm and cozy and felt like home away from home. I did not get to meet Gray as he was out of town but Judith took great care of me. She was very helpful in steering me to great places in Austin. Be prepared. Austin has a lot of great places. This stop certainly added to my experience on Cross Country 2014.

  • We love this place's location, just a convenient walk to downtown, the capitol, Franklin BBQ, UT university, the whole deal. If driving, the house is easy to get to/from the freeway too. Judith and Gray are very accomodating and friendly hosts. The daily breakfast of fruits and cereal/bread was what we needed. We love their recomendations when we asked for it. Overall, we're happy with our stay and would recommend to others.

  • What a wonderful place to stay. Jude and Gray were great and George and Grace are awesome dogs. A quick walk to 6th street, but quiet and out of the way, too.

  • Nice location-- we were able to walk to restaurants, bars, UT and the capitol quite easily. The room was very comfortable and accommodated 2 people very comfortably. We're glad we chose this room for our visit to Austin!

  • We had the best day at Gray's house. The location was perfect, just 15 min walk from 6th street, and the house was lovely and very quiet. We didn't get to meet Gray sadly as he was away but his roommate was super nice and helpful and even gave us breakfast every morning.I highly recommend staying at Gray's house,we can't wait to be back next year!

  • My second stay at this charming home, close to all the downtown action Austin has to offer. Once again, Gray and Judith were great hosts and made my visit stress free.
