BONUS STUDIO OPTION
There is a separate studio apartment unit attached to the cottage, rented separately on airbnb. If you are interested in renting the studio for extra guests or family members, please let us know.
Many of our guests are international scholars coming to teach, research or study at Stanford. Many of them prefer not to rent a car and have been happy to be walking or biking distance from campus. If you'd like to bike, we have a spare bike we rent you at a nominal cost: $5 a day, $25 a week or $75 a month plus $150 fully refundable deposit. It's a medium-sized 15-speed Huffy with handbrakes.
We are also less than 30 minutes’ drive from both San Francisco (SFO) and San Jose (SJC) airports, except during rush hours, when it’s of course longer.
Alternatively, you can take the train from SFO airport—not fast, but very inexpensive:
(1) BART directly from SFO to Millbrae CalTrain station (about 15 min, approx $4)
(2) train to Menlo Park (under 30 minutes, approx $5)
(3) then right down Santa Cruz Ave from the station (20-minute brisk walk or very short taxi ride).
We live right next door and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the area or provide recommendations, and are available if you need any assistance once you've arrived.
Will consider pets with solid references and an additional fully refundable security deposit of $250.
Please email details of your needs.

First of all, thank you for such a wonderful experience.
Laurel is absolutely great to communicate with and everything went very smoothly. I was also amazed about how quick Laurel got back to my reservation questions, I don't think I have ever received email answers faster!
I booked the cottage for two of my colleagues during their stay in Menlo Park. Both of them were amazed by the cleanliness and overall welcoming and warm atmosphere of the cottage. The cottage was exactly as they had imagined and as it was displayed in the pictures. We also really appreciated all the extra information from Laurel about the area, local stores and local transportation.
We can't wait for the next stay at the cottage and really look forward to it.
Thank you again Laurel for such a pleasant experience!
Laurel is the perfect hostess!! The "cottage" is really a small house, very roomy with two bedrooms, a full kitchen with a dining table for six, stacking washer and dryer, and a spacious living room. Laurel's correspondence and the notes in the guest book were very detailed and helpful, and the house has all the amenities needed to make the house a home. The backyard is very peaceful and green, completely enclosed with a wooden fence for privacy. We were so fortunate to meet Laurel and to live there for six days. Hope to be able to return sometime :)
What a wonderful cottage and a wonderful stay, thanks to Laurel's quick response (I heard back from Laurel within minutes when I sent a booking request!), her warm welcome and hospitality and sense of how to outfit the perfect vacation home (everything anybody might have wanted was in the cottage, and the one specialized kitchen tool I requested arrived in minutes of my arrival!). The only issue, which was acute, was how hard it was to leave the cottage at the end of the weekend! I look forward to going back.
We loved Laurel's cottage, which is actually quite spacious and perfect for 2-4 people. It was clean and comfortable and has a beautiful garden. It is very near the Stanford campus and has a useful mall just a few minutes away. It is in a pretty, calm and peaceful area and had everything we needed. Laurel and her family are next door, they gave us a lovely warm welcome and then we didn't see them till we left. I hope we can stay there again when we are next in Stanford.
My wife, 2 year old daughter and I had a great stay at this cottage. It's conveniently located, private and quiet. I enjoyed walking to Starbucks with my daughter in the mornings, and on longer stays, I can imagine jogging on the nearby trails and paths.
The only times we encountered Laurel and her family were when we initiated contact. They were great hosts; warm and welcoming and extremely helpful.
Staying here really allowed us to get a good feel for the neighborhoods of the Peninsula. We would absolutely stay here again!
We spent 5 nights with Laurel and her husband and have nothing but compliments.
As we came for a sequence of business meetings, we needed a seamless stay, clean and well located house - and this is exactly what we got. The house is perfectly located and provides easy access to nearby transportation and businesses and is clean and well maintained.
Laurel was helpful and always tried to see how she can be even more helpful.
When the need arise, we will definitely return here!
This is apartment can be recommended without qualifications to anyone seeking a quiet and cozy place in walking distance to Stanford. Laurel and her family were great hosts, very helpful and obliging.
This was a great place with an excellent location close to Menlo Park/Palo Alto, and the Stanford campus. The hosts were wonderful and helped out when we had questions. We really liked talking to Laurel and her family. We've got two kids and they loved it as much as we did! Highly recommended.
Laurel and her husband were wonderful hosts. The apartment is very well located, near the Stanford campus and download Menlo Park/Palo Alto, in a very quiet environment. Clean and spacious, with amble space in the kitchen and in the living room. We were able to fit 4 adults and 2 children and it worked out very well. There were unfortunately a few issues with the Internet connection that were not our host's fault (but rather with the provider, ComCast) but things are getting fixed so this shouldn't be a problem next time we come up there, because we will choose Laurel again.
What a treasure! The guesthouse was very well prepared and the accommodations were wonderful,. We were met by our hosts despite the fact that our flight got us in a little late and they had plans for dinner. The place is as attractive as the photos and we enjoyed the privacy afforded by a private drive.
