Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • David's place was the perfect stay at Venice Beach! The room is clean and as advertized. The window view is superb. The neighbors are friendly too. Even though I was notified about possibility of having no wifi and given an option to cancel my booking or get a discount due to a wifi upgrade, David made effort to have it working during my stay. I would definitely stay at David's place in the future.

  • My boyfriend and I stayed at David's apartment for 2 nights and had a great time. The apartment is located right next to the beach! We had everything we needed and were very happy with our stay (especially having our own garage!).

The only thing that was a bit bothersome was the noise... if you are a light sleeper, like me, bring earplugs. If you sleep like a rock, like my boyfriend, it won't be a problem.

  • We stayed only one night and the apartment was great. Compact but had everything that we needed. The location was amazing with a great view of the ocean and so many restaurants and cafes nearby. Although we didn't meet him, David was great about communicating with us and it was easy to find the keys.

  • The room itself is much smaller than the pictures make it out. It's pretty much a glorified closet. That said, it does have a nice view of the Ocean, which is why we picked it. However, the room itself leaves a lot to be desired. There was broken glass on the patio, which I ended up cutting my foot upon. Also the owner is an incredibly rude person. We were in the midst of packing our things at 10:50 when the cleaning woman came. We told her we needed a few more minutes as we went to pack the car. We had to walk a half block to the Garage to load all the bags, and as we did my foot that was cut on broken glass at the poorly attended apartment began to bleed again and I had to bandage it. By the time we returned from loading the bags and seeing to my bloodied foot the cleaning woman was gone it was about 11:45, so I put the garage opener back in the room and locked everything up. It was about 5 minutes later that I started getting a barrage of angry texts from the "owner" David, who until this point had made absolutely no contact with me. David went on a triad about how checkout was clearly listed at 11 AM. I apologized and explained I had hurt my foot, and that the room was locked and secured with everything as it should be. However, David was not satisfied. Apparently we had caused him a great emotional harm, so he proceeded to try and get AirB&B to charge me an additional $20 for his "phone and text charges" from having to talk to me. I had tried to resolve the issue with David and give him assurances that everything was ok, but he turned off his phone. He is one of the most unreasonable and difficult people I've ever dealt with. I believe he was upset because he had expected us to be out before 11 (hence the cleaning woman showing up 10 minutes before 11, and adding to sense of feeling unwelcome after we had spent good money to stay in a glorified closet). The view is nice, but you're better off not being in a situation where you have to deal with the likes of a person like David. He truly was an incredibly difficult and unpleasant person to deal with, and I for one would like my money refunded for being subjected to his terrible attitude (and of course the broken glass on the patio. The room is the size of a closet, you'd think a $30 cleaning fee would include sweeping the patio space, so that guests don't cut their feet open.) If you are thinking about staying here, I'd suggest looking somewhere else, where the host won't make you feel so unwelcome, and try and charge you an additional $20 to stay in what is already an overpriced closet of a room.

    Response from David:

Ha what a hoot. Please read the nearly 6 pages of complimentary reviews before making a conclusion. Peter admits leaving at 11:45 when check out is a firm 11:00. This unusual situation was exacerbated by an early check in from the next guest and of course the keys were not in the lockbox and garage remote was not in the unit. This set off a chain of events that involved having extra keys being delivered to the incoming guest. I believed Peter shared in this responsibility-

  • We had an absolute blast! Definitely a nice getaway. Walking distance to mostly anywhere and hearing the waves crash sitting out on the balcony every night was definitely the icing to this wonderful vacation.

  • David's apartment could not be in a more perfect location! You've a lovely view of the Pacific, you're right by the beach boardwalk, there are loads of great cafes for breakfast (Figtree's really is amazing, especially the half price breakfast), lunch and dinner and you have easy access to public transport.
There was however a slit mix up with communication between myself and David on the day of check out. I had stayed a little past the (I am now told) strict 11am departure time, and a cleaning lady showed up. I told here I needed 5 minutes to finish packing and gather my things. I did so and left. I then received a slightly angry message from David asserting I'd lied to the cleaning lady by saying that could stay longer - I hadn't! I suppose something got lost in translation, but everything was sorted in a reasonable way by correspondence with David.

  • Stay was great - location is perfect to park the car and leave it for your entire stay! David was super helpful when a previous guest has misplaced the keys and we needed him to talk us through getting a spare. Would absolutely stay again. It was my first airbnb experience and won't be my last.

  • Set up like a college door room, cluttered and crowded. Musty smell, extension cords everywhere, old / sagging bed. Wifi extremely slow, 1 bar of ATT cell reception. Fled after two days. Beware of aggressive messages from grumpy host if you leave the key with the housekeeper.

    March 2014
    Response from David:

it is clearly stated that check out is a firm 11:00 and keys are required to be returned to the lockbox. There is no housekeeper only cleaning service that knows nothing about the lockbox

  • David's place was amazing. A little small, but the location is unbeatable. It was also really nice to have a parking spot. I would definitely recommend staying here!

  • Great little beach front studio! Fellow tenants were very friendly and had great suggestions of things to do near by. Right by the boardwalk and within walking distance to the Santa Monica pier. Having a garage was an awesome bonus! Only gripe would be the hit and miss wireless service but with such beautiful views didn't miss it much. I would definitely stay there again.

I am an LA native grew up near the Beach became a musician and played in Rock and Roll Bands during the 70's and was very fortunate to see the world with my bandmates. Ended up living in Aspen CO for 20 years and then moved back here to the beach 4 years ago. Still can't decide what I like more between the ocean and the mountains. Oh well I will survive. One thing I do not like is traffic and I try to stay out of it- for sure during peak travel times. I have been a yoga instructor and I love a good time-travel yarn. Presently I have been working on my musical called The Perfect Pitch about an epic struggle between Music and Noise with the fate of mankind at stake.
