With Refugium, we return to our origins. The close relationship between architecture and place forms the foundation for a truly special experience. This apartment is more than just accommodation — it is a place of calm, honesty and mindful simplicity.

Refugium da Caparica has been internationally awarded for its interior design (including Architizer, DNA Paris, Architecture MasterPrize, LOOP Design Awards) and featured in several architecture and design publications.

The space
The Refugium da Caparica, is an apartment with a capacity for 4 adults, consists of 2 bedrooms which are complemented with 1 bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped and the living area opens onto the beach. From the balcony you can enjoy an unique sunset over the waves of Costa da Caparica sea. Here you breathe the beach.

Considered by many as the closest Guesthouse to the beach, The Refugium da Caparica is located 15 minutes away from Lisbon. Some of the country’s best beaches can be found within a walking distance and for the more curious, the beaches of Sesimbra, the Arrábida and Sintra Nature Parks are just over half an hour drive away

Other things to note
The history of refugium at Costa da Caparica beach, dates back to the early 90's. It was originally our family's holiday apartment and in 2017 we decided to acquire it in order to share memories with our friends and guests.
All the renovation and decoration has been done together with the architect Fábio FerreiraNeves, with a clear respect for the place and for the Caparica roots. The simplicity of the fishermen’s houses of the 18th century was the basis for a pure and minimalist architecture, in order to guarantee a serene and comfortable space.

The project accepts what it finds and gives it a new life, reusing as many existing elements as possible, such as doors, ceilings and walls. As an alternative to the current microcement, the Microlime was chosen, based on lime and natural non-toxic additives, as the dominant material to create a continuous connection throughout the space. All the floor is now covered by this sandy and pigmented material, sustaining a strong relationship with the place in a clear allusion to beach huts.

The sustainable and ecological principles of the intervention also extended to the decoration, where there was an extreme effort to work with local craftsmen, as well as with other nationally produced pieces, doing justice to the brand and returning to the roots. The wood chosen was the national pine.
