Welcome to our listing! At the Charlie Chaplin we aim to provide backpackers and international travellers with a welcoming accommodation that offers clean, comfortable dorms that can suit you for a short or long stay as our guests. We do not charge for lockers, towels, or linens, and we can accomodate up to 20 people so we'll be sure to find room for you!
Most importantly, we make sure that our guests have fun and our friendly staff are always there to advise you and ensure that you get the most out of your stay in London. All of the best tourist sights of this great city are just a quick walk away, such as Tower Bridge, The London Eye, Saint Paul's Cathedral and many more.
Because we own our own bar means you're just a few minutes away from a great party or you can choose to relax with other international guests.

**Booking & Staff** Easy booking service, really friendly staff and helpful. **SAFETY** for 15£ a head per night, it is what it is.. a HOSTEL. That means, shared rooms and living conditions. Luckily we were a group of 6 with our own room, but others in the hostel were sharing with strangers. That isn't so bad since there are lockers where you can put you stuff in. You can fit a sports bag in this sideways to keep all your belongings in there. You would struggle to fit anything else bigger, such as a small "hand luggage suitcase". Rooms are not lockable, since it is a hostel. But the bedroom area is only accessible by those with rooms, so do not fear of safety. There is a seperate door for the bedrooms (above the pub) and you are given your own key. In the hallway, there is even a seperate keycode lock for extra security. Nothing to worry about here! You are as safe as gold. **ROOMS** We were with 6 guys, so please bare this in mind. We are not picky, not noble or in need of extra comfort.. all that concerned us was a BED!. Each room is fitted with 5 or 6 bunk beds and to put it bluntly, the rooms are in a bad condition to be perfectly honest, dirt under the bunk beds, a lot of dust. Parts of the rooms had mold growing in the corners (ceiling), or just looked really dirty (black patches) and the WINDOW in our room.. oh my oh my.. it was so disgusting we feared to open it in case it fell off. It was racked with grime and rust and we actually had to use a plastic bag to open the windows. Don't expect anything else other than a bed. Not even a desk, a draw.. nothing to hang or put your clothes. Whether this is normal for hostels I don't know.. just be prepared. ** Bathrooms** There are 2 shower rooms, and there is 1 toilet with a shower too. Again expect the bare essentials. A small mirror in each the size of your head and running water. Nothing or no where to put your toiletries or hang anything.. nothing. Other than that, they were kept in good condition and we were very pleased. ** LOCATION ** Location was great for us, 6 guys - although it may not appeal to anyone travelling alone or women, since the "hood" is probably not the best, That said, we found the location EXCELLENT! Right next to the pub is a TESCO metro where you can buy everything. Inside the same building is a variety of stores in a shopping mall, here you can buy pretty much anything. Just a 10-15 minute walk you can reach the BOROUGH MARKET, which is highly recommended! MUST DO. Just outside the pub are 2 bus stops to go in each direction, the bus's travel throughout the day and night (night bus) and just...
The host was pleasant and welcoming and the bed and room was clean. However, there were quite afew maintenance issues. Several showers weren't working and the light in the toilet was broken. It didn't create problems for me, but some people would struggle without a light in the toilet!
Funny Place. Funny People. Easy going! Thanks!
Great location and good for the price. Everyone there was nice and helpful. Convenient for a couple of days in London. Thanks!
For the price is good value.
The lockers are not suitable for big bags and the internet connection is not very good.
I liked the pub and the host incredibly. They were good to have a pint with. You're paying for a hostel type bed and that's what you get. Buy a towel is my only advice.
Easy place to get to. Staff was informative on the place. And it's always nice to be in a place where you wake up and go have a beer! :)
As you'd expect for the price. Donal was great to talk to on the phone, Tarek was great at the venue too. Helping out explain the way the hostel runs. If you're on a budget or staying briefly for a few nights and only need a bed, this will suit you fine.
The bathrooms/ toilets were really dirty although there were only two other guests. The area seemed a bit dubious. However, the bed was clean and with earplugs I was able to sleep well.
When I hopped off the tube at Elephant and Castle I was initially a little dismayed by the general area seeming a bit dodgy. However, the warm reception I received at The Charlie Chaplin Bar and Hostel soon put me back at ease. After waiting a short while for the host Wayne to arrive (during which I was given complimentary coffee to drink), I was given a warm greeting and shown to my room and my free locker.
The resident pets Charlie the dog and Precious the cat provided great entertainment, Wayne was full of conversation, and the room was well looked after and tidy. What more could you want for only £15 per night? Wayne does all he can to help out guests, including not having any hidden extra fees (e.g. bedding charges, locker charges).
I recommend this place to anyone travelling on a budget and seeking somewhere friendly for a short stay.
This is the final rate, including any fees from the host and Airbnb.
