Guests do not have access to the kitchen for food preparation - the breakfast is self-serve and includes whatever is on the table as well as in the guest refrigerator in the dining room - juices, yogurt, jams, breads, cheese slices, hard boiled eggs , hot or cold cereals etc. Coffee and tea of course at the dining room coffee station.
Interaction with Guests
I always meet and greet the guests and enjoy chatting with them at breakfast, if they are in the mood for lively conversation. I try not to be at all intrusive however. I generally spend time at the outset explaining the features of the house and rooms and showing the guests maps of the area and brochures to local attractions. I am always available to answer any questions!
We are just one block south of lively South Street at 7th. South Street is packed with interesting shops of all varieties, places to grab a fast bite or a fine meal. The neighborhood has numerous restaurants (over 100 within walking distance and 7 within one block). The famous Italian Market is on 9th Street. Great coffee shop across the street from the house (The Bean Exchange).
Generally you can walk everywhere. If you like to ride, the #47 bus stops almost at the front door (we are just one house in from the corner). It heads due north, stopping at every corner and returns on 8th Street. Service is frequent especially around rush hour. Its a fast way to get to Market Street, where you can connect with the Market Street subway or bus lines. Taxis are another way to get around easily - they will come to the house if called or you can hail one on the street. Walking distance to Market Street and Independence Hall just 15 minutes, the Delaware River/ Penn's Landing area 10-15 minutes, Italian Market 10 minutes, Convention Center 20-25 minutes walk. Pennsylvania Hospital just 5 minutes (8th and Pine), beautiful Society Hill (Historic colonial area) 10 minutes). Broad Street (Subway at South and Broad) just 7 blocks away - about 10-15 min walk.
Other Things to Note
There is a sweet short hair mix living here (Archie). He is a rescue dog, somewhat shy and generally keeps out of the way. Archie never barks and never goes up to the guests rooms. His favorite activity is napping or watching TV in his furnished bachelor pad in the basement.
No pets please. Smoking OK in the rear patio, which is partially covered in case of rain. No young children, please. MINIMUM STAY TWO DAYS.
Steve could not have been more helpful. I had my family stay there for the weekend and he made them feel more than welcome. His place is very spacious and he has endless recommendations for great restaurants/attractions in Philadelphia.
The 7th Street B&B is a very clean, neat location. The host is accommodating and knowledgeable of the area. He was very helpful with parking and dining suggestions as well with directions when moving about town or leaving. The place is quiet. Much more so than what I was expecting. The rooms were clean and well kept. This was our first B&B experience and overall we both felt it as a good one. We appreciate the effort Steve took to make us feel welcome and comfortable in his establishment.
Steve was an excellent and experienced host. He knows Philadelphia very well, and he went out of his way to provide useful information and recommendations about restaurants, transportation, music, etc. His comfortable, well-appointed, clean and well-maintained guest suite was a good, quiet place for me to sleep, relax and work during my stay.
Logement impeccable!
The 7th st B&B is a charming little house close to Philly's tourist areas and Steve s a perfect host who made us super comfortable and welcome. The space is well set up with a comfortable master bedroom for a couple and a smaller room with 2 single beds. We loved the breakfast spread which is basically all day :) The B&B is run professionally and we really enjoyed staying here. Steve is also super helpful with tips for food and sightseeing around the city.
Steve was a wonderful host. He was readily accessible and made us feel very welcome. Plenty of food and choices for breakfast. Having the entire floor (2 bedrooms and bath) to ourselves made things nicely private. He is ready to share advice on what to see and do and knows Philly well. We'll contact him again when we visit the city again.
The B&b was just what we needed. A cozy place for sleeping, good coffee, and great location. Great for 4 people too. Steve was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about activities and getting around. And we loved his nice touch of chocolate in the room!
