A classic American Four Square circa 1919. Safe, convenient location in the Arts District of Oak Park. Minutes to blue line train and 290 expressway. 17 minutes to downtown Chicago (Jackson stop) Around the corner from galleries, restaurants, yoga and vinyl. Hosts live in a separate part of the home.
The soft gray room has a twin sized bed and a small mini fridge and microwave for those snacking needs. Original artwork fills the walls. Conveniently located upstairs next to the bathroom. An air mattress can be added for a second person.
Three (3) minute walk to the blue line train. You can't get any closer, unless you're on the train. Super convenient and safe location.
The Blue Line train (runs 24 hours) and downtown in just 17. We are very close to downtown. Closer, in fact, than some parts of Chicago itself. Please note that because we are so close to the train, you will hear some noise. This is the train that takes you directly to O'Hare airport. To come from Midway you would take the Orange Line and switch for the Blue Line at Van Buren and continue on.
We are very convenient to all the attractions such as the Sears "Willis" Tower, Millenium Park, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, Lincoln Park Zoo, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (with the free flying butterflies. Best nature museum and I've been to many) and Navy Pier, just to name a few (and that's really just a few. There are so many more things to do!)
We are walking distance to the Jewel and CVS (about 5 blocks). Next door to the Jewel is a Budget/Avis car rental for those times you just want to drive around. I can get you free parking for up to 30 days.
We are around the corner from Yoga Trek (has drop in classes), Val's Halla records (if you're into music, this is a must see place) some great restaurants, Italian and The Buzz Cafe (great free range beef burger, gluten free, organic) for Eclectic fare, and just one train stop away from Brazilian (you must try the passionfruit mousse), American, more Mexican food, Hole in the Wall for ice cream (yum) and a Pans, a small family owned grocery store.
For the architecture buff, Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio is located here in Oak Park along with many of his buildings. Guided tours are available.
It's also the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway
There are times when the house is full of people and others when there might be only a few. During high season (summer, Lollapalooza for example) the house may be very busy giving you the opportunity to meet a lot of new people.
We have dogs and cats in case of allergies or sensitivities. They are never allowed in the bedrooms.
A coin laundromat is about 7 minutes away- just one train stop over. Dry cleaners behind the house. No laundry facilities on site.
All reservations must go through AIRBNB including last minute reservations.
When corresponding, please offer the password, "Al was a chicken" so I know that you have fully read this description.
Please do ask any questions you can think of.
Thanks so much!
Backyard access is unavailable as my dogs are usually out there.
Interaction with Guests
Our house is great for the independent traveler. We have a great self check in system so you can arrive at your convenience. Our family lives in a separate party of the house. There are times when I will be around all the time and others when I will be out. However, I am able to be reached at all times by text on my phone.
We are located in the Arts District of Oak Park. A wonderful artsy vibe is what you will find in this neck of the woods. We are around the corner from great restaurants, shops, art galleries and a rockin' hairstylist for those who want to try something cutting edge. There is a fantastic beading store for those who'd like to explore this art and a drop in yoga studio.
We are located just a 2-3 minute walk to the blue line train. You can actually see the entrance from our front door. It's that convenient. We are also minutes to the 290 expressway entrance if you have a car. If you want to rent a car, we are walking distance to Budget/Avis Car Rental.
Other Things to Note
For your convenience, this is a self check in home. Hosts live in another part of the home but are on premises. My house is 100 years old. I have not done any decorative rehab. We do have friendly furry friends here. Although you will most likely only encounter the indoor/outdoor cats. Please note, shower only home. Smoking outside. Laundry or kitchen unavailable.
All I ask is that you remember that this is my home. A home that I really love, that I have raised my family in and where life happens.
Tamara is a wonderful hostess. Very accommodating, flexible and hospitable. Cute house in a very convenient location, steps from the Blue Line and 290. Very close to shops and cafes on Harrison in Oak Park. I work nights and she lets me stay days when I need to sleep and stay close to work. She's always very nice about making sure I get enough sleep!
Tamara is a fantastic host. Tamara responded to my request very quickly on a cold night and It was snowing. The room is neat. The neighborhood has nice a coffee shop and a book store.
Tamara was a wonderful host, very friendly and with some excellent recommendations for food etc, one of which really made my time in Chicago quite special.
Great location on the Blue Line, super easy to get downtown. If you're sensitive to noise bring earplugs!
Lovely Bohemian home! Oak Park was a very beautiful neighborhood to stay in for Chicago, even if I only stayed one night. Never got to meet Tamara because of the short duration of my trip, but she was helpful in telling me how to get settled in over the phone. If I come back to Chicago, I will be staying with her! Also, the proximity to the CTA is very handy... you can practically see the Blue Line train stop from the house's front door, making its location even more ideal.
Generous host! Comfortable room! Nice neighborhood! Great experience!!
Tamara was a wonderful host! The room was clean and quiet, and really affordable for such a nice neighborhood. There were coffee shops and a library nearby, it was close to the blue line, and the neighborhood felt very safe. I also loved getting to spend time with Tamara's lovely cats!
Overall a good experience, I would definitely recommend it.
Unfortunately, I was not able to meet Tamara in person, since I arrived pretty late and I had to leave again early in the morning. But Tamara left me a note on the front door and on the door to my room to help me get settled in. These notes were very helpful and the accomondations were clean and pleasant.

I am American born, but my gram is originally from Lithuania and my grandpa's family are Austria/Poles. I grew up with a predominantly Russian/Lithuanian/Polish influence in my home and around many foreigners. As a child I grew up with a roomer so I have lived this life, most of my life.
