About this listing
Very safe and convenient location in the Arts District of Oak Park. Steps to (24 hour) blue line train and 290 expressway. 17 mins to Chicago (Jackson stop-Sears Tower) Hosts live in a separate area. Pets on premises. Self check in. Microwave and mini fridge in room! Free parking right in front.
Please read each section of the listing.
The soft gray room is located on the second floor next to the shared bathroom. It has a twin sized bed and a small mini fridge and microwave for those snacking needs. A water cooler is available on the first floor. A real mattress can be added for a second person.
Please read the house rules.
Free parking for up to 30 days available.
The hosts live in another private part of the home.
Our home is a great home for the independent traveler. There are times when the house is full of people and others when there might be only a few. During high season (summer, Lollapalooza for example) the house may be very busy giving you the opportunity to meet a lot of new people.
We have dogs and cats, in case of allergies or sensitivities, who live in a different part of the house with the hosts. If you have any issues with pets at all, or think you might have issues, this is NOT the home for you.
Coin laundry available just one stop away -- about 7 minutes. Kitchen is unavailable.
We are just a 3 minute walk to the Blue Line train; a minute's drive to the 290 ramp. Please note that because we are so close to the train, you will hear some noise. This is the price we pay for this amazing convenience. This is the train that takes you directly to O'Hare airport and also into downtown Chicago in about 17 minutes. The first stop at Jackson, is only 17 minutes. But the other end of the loop, Washington, can be as long as 40 minutes. To come from Midway you would take the Orange Line and switch for the Blue Line at Van Buren and continue on.
All reservations must go through AIRBNB including last minute reservations.
No local resident rentals please.
Please do read the other sections as well. When corresponding, please offer the password, "Al was a chicken" so I know that you have fully read this description.
Please do ask any questions you can think of.
Thanks so much!
Each room has a mini fridge and microwave and access to a cold water cooler. On site host's living quarters are private. Coin laundry just a stop away (about 7 minutes). Airbnb requires hosts to abide by all local laws and regulations, therefore, the kitchen unavailable.
Interaction with Guests
Our house is great for the independent traveler. We have a great self check in system so you can arrive at your convenience s anytime after 2 pm on the date of your reservation. Our family lives in a separate part of the house. There are times when I will be around all the time and others when you might never see me. If you're looking for a place to rest and not a lot of host contact, this is a great place. If you want heavy host involvement, this probably would not meet your expectations. However, I am able to be reached at all times by text.
We are located in the Arts District of Oak Park. A wonderful artsy vibe is what you will find in this neck of the woods. We are around the corner from great restaurants, shops, art galleries and a rockin' hairstylist for those who want to try something cutting edge. There is a fantastic beading store for those who'd like to explore this art and a drop in yoga studio. Check out the guidebook. We have pets.
We are located just a 2-3 minute walk to the blue line train. You can actually see the entrance from our front door. It's that convenient. We are also minutes to the 290 expressway entrance if you have a car. If you want to rent a car, we are walking distance to Budget/Avis Car Rental.
We have pets.
Other Things to Note
For your convenience, this is a self check in home. Hosts live in another part of the home but are on premises. My house is 100 years old. I have not done any decorative rehab. We do have pets and they live in host family's area. Although you will most likely encounter the indoor/outdoor cats. If you have any issues at all with pets, this is not the home for you. Please note, shower only home. Smoking outside. Laundry or kitchen unavailable.
All I ask is that you remember that this is my home. A home that I really love, that I have raised my family in and where life happens. We have dogs and cats. Please let me say that again. WE HAVE DOGS AND CATS AND ALL THINGS THAT COME WITH PET OWNERSHIP. Some people might be very sensitive to smells, others not. If I am giving my dogs a bath, I can 100% guarantee you it will smell like wet dog until they dry.
Please remember that I actually live here with my family and do have to carry on with my regular life activities.
If this might be an issue for you, please, I am begging you, do not book a room here and then become angry that I have pets.
Please communicate your needs so they can be addressed.
Tamara was great, very welcoming. I was there for two weeks as there's plenty to see and do in Chicago. Durining this time Tamara took us took us out to a local event and drove us around the local area to sight see. The house is close to the Blue Line and is really handy for getting into the city. All the information provided by her is accurate and she's a good communicator. When I return to Chicago I'll be back here to stay.
Accurate description and exactly as advertised! I had a last minute flight cancellation and found myself in town for another 1.5 nights. I found Tamara's listing and was so glad I did. Even reserving on such short notice, Tamara was very accommodating and was very thorough in relaying check-in procedure (i.e. how to get to and from her place, door lock code). Being so close to the Blue Line was great. The trip to O'Hare took about an hour, but was a straight shot all the way to the end of the line. Driving, it probably would have been less than a half-hour. Anyway, a super convenient location whether you want to head downtown or to the airport. Would definitely recommend staying at Tamara's!
Very nice accommodations for the price and was exactly as advertised. Plenty of street parking and Tamara called in the car for us. As noted in other reviews, good place to stay if you like pets. Great experience overall.
A charming home ! It’s very close from public transport. You have everything you need when you travel : large towels, shower gel … The bedroom was nice and clean. I enjoyed the fridge with bottles of water when i arrived. I have only met Hector the cat but i could communicate with Tamara by e-mail. A good stay !
Stay was satisfactory overall, it was a really hot weekend in Chicago and the ac wasn't on at first which made the room a bit stuffy and warm. Room had a fan however so at night it was more bearable. Very convenient to be given towels and water in the room, and convenient location for my needs.
Tamara was really responsive and provided a ton of info about the house and neighborhood. The listing is pretty accurate. Proximity to the blue line was key.
We did not see Tamara but the room was clean and ready when we arrived. Also it was not a problem to arrive late when our flight got delayed. All in all it was a very nice and effective stay! Thanks!

About the Host, Tamara
I love creating, bright colors and movies! I am a huge movie fan and can point you to the right direction in finding offbeat films. We are a bmx/dance friendly home.
I work with animal rescues and have dogs; both my own and fosters. If you would love to add a pup to your home, I can definitely point you in the right direction. You MUST be 100% pet friendly and with all the things that come with having pets and understand if I give my dog a bath, my house will smell like wet dog until he/she is dry.
You will most likely only encounter the indoor/outdoor cats, Hector and Elizabeth. The dogs live in the private host area of the house.
My home is a work in progress. It is not perfect, but I really do love it. Much of it is still original.
So, please feel free to ask questions. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask. I'm here to give you the experience of a nontraditional way of travelling and success happens with good communication.
Thanks for looking and happy travels!
