Singletons Welcome Next 2 Blue Line

House - Private room · Highland Ave, Oak Park, IL 60304, United States

The Space

Our bohemian style home is a great home for the independent traveler. It has a twin bed and I can add an air mattress on the floor for the additional person.

The vibe is more of a laid back and artsy kind of place with 5 private rooms (which can be viewed under listings). There are times when the house is full of people and others when there might be only a few. During high season (summer, Lollapalooza for example) the house may be very busy giving you the opportunity to meet a lot of new people.

We have dogs and cats in case of allergies or sensitivities. They are not allowed in the bedrooms.

We are just a 3 minute walk to the Blue Line train. Please note that because we are so close to the train, you will hear some noise. This is the price we pay for this amazing convenience. This is the train that takes you directly to O'Hare airport and also into downtown Chicago in about 17 minutes. To come from Midway you would take the Orange Line and switch for the Blue Line at Van Buren and continue on. It's also a 5 minute drive to the 290 on ramp.

We are very convenient to all the attractions such as the Sears "Willis" Tower, Millenium Park, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, Lincoln Park Zoo, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (with the free flying butterflies. Best nature museum and I've been to many) and Navy Pier, just to name a few (and that's really just a few. There are so many more things to do!)

We are walking distance to the Jewel and CVS (about 5 blocks). Next door to the Jewel is a Budget/Avis car rental for those times you just want to drive around. I can get you free parking for up to 30 days.

We are around the corner from Yoga Trek (has drop in classes), Val's Halla records (if you're into music, this is a must see place) some great restaurants, La Majda for Mexican, Italian and The Buzz Cafe (great free range beef burger, gluten free, organnic) for Eclectic fare, and just one train stop away from Brazilian, American, more Mexican food, Hole in the Wall for ice cream (yum) and a Pans, a small family owned grocery store. A laundry is next to the Brazilian restaurant. Don't forget to try the passion fruit mousse - delicious! 2 stops away is the best breakfast ever at Amelia's.

For the architecture buff, Frank Lloyd Wright's home and studio is located here in Oak Park along with many of his buildings. Guided tours are available.

It's also the birthplace of Ernest Hemingway

Guest Access

The sun porch in warm weather months is a nice space to have breakfast. No backyard access as my dogs are usually out there.

Interaction with Guests

Our house is great for the independent traveler. There are times when I will be around all the time and others when I will be out. However, I am able to be reached at all times by text on my phone.

Other Things to Note

We do have friendly furry friends here. A great home for the animal lover. Although pets are not allowed in the bedrooms. Please note, shower only home. Smoking outside only.

  • It was my first time staying with an Airbnb-host. Tamara was just great. She was verry committed to give me a good stay and helped me planing my trip. Everything was easygoing and we had some pretty interesting and amusing talks. The house was verry vivid and I liked that. The cats and the dog are cute, I loved them. I took a walk to the nearby birthplace of Ernest Hemingway and the Hemingway museum. They are about 45 minutes by foot but it is easy to find.

  • The spot was great for me. She and her family were very nice and super helpful. If you are looking for a nice place to stay outside of the city proper but close to the the Line for easy access this is a good place.

  • This was my second stay and even better than the last one.
Tamara is just a multi-talent and a wonderful host..
I will go there again soon as it is the perfect location for my needs.

  • Great place with a comfortable atmosphere. Tamara is very cool and does a great job of making you feel like your at home. It was very quiet most of the time and the code on the front door lock made it super convenient to get in and out. definitely check one of her rooms out.

  • This was my first time using AirBnB and my first time in Chicago, so I had no idea what to look for.

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived here. It was very close to the station with trains running 24h. Only half an hour to get into The Loop in the middle in Chicago. The room was nice but there was a quite a lot of noise from the highway right next to the house.

I got my own code for the door, so I could come and go as I pleased and I didn't even see my host during the week I stayed there, since I was roaming around Chicago most of the day.

I also had the chance to look at the village of Oak Park. It was a nice quiet suburbian neighborhood with some excellent restaurants not too far away.

I can highly recommend this place if you don't mind spending a little time getting back and forth.

  • Tamara was exceptionally welcoming, friendly, and accommodating during my recent stay. The house is a 5 minute walk from the blue line and a 20 minute ride into the city. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would gladly do so again next time I'm in Chicago.

  • Lovely Bohemian home! Oak Park was a very beautiful neighborhood to stay in for Chicago, even if I only stayed one night. Never got to meet Tamara because of the short duration of my trip, but she was helpful in telling me how to get settled in over the phone. If I come back to Chicago, I will be staying with her! Also, the proximity to the CTA is very handy... you can practically see the Blue Line train stop from the house's front door, making its location even more ideal.

    Thanks for being so awesome!

  • Tamara was a wonderful host! The room was clean and quiet, and really affordable for such a nice neighborhood. There were coffee shops and a library nearby, it was close to the blue line, and the neighborhood felt very safe. I also loved getting to spend time with Tamara's lovely cats!

Overall a good experience, I would definitely recommend it.

    Response from Tamara:

    Thank you Kellie!

  • Unfortunately, I was not able to meet Tamara in person, since I arrived pretty late and I had to leave again early in the morning. But Tamara left me a note on the front door and on the door to my room to help me get settled in. These notes were very helpful and the accomondations were clean and pleasant.

About
I love creating, bright colors and movies! I am a huge movie fan and can point you to the right direction in finding offbeat films. We are a bmx/dance friendly home. I have hosted many international exchange students, travelers and all around awesome people. I am American born, but my gram is originally from Lithuania and my grandpa's family are Austria/Poles. I grew up with a predominantly Russian/Lithuanian/Polish influence in my home and around many foreigners. As a child I grew up with boarders so I have lived this life, most of my life. So, please feel free to ask questions. If you have a question, don't be afraid to ask. I'm here to give you the experience of a nontraditional way of travelling and success happens with good communication. Thanks for looking and happy travels!
